It's more it's like 38%. Hollywood accounting all the way. In particular the deadweight cost of the the AMA monopoly on licensing is like 50% of GDP, which doesn't sound possible but if you know what a deadweight cost is it's a part of the nation's income that can't exist because it isn't there. It's how much better life would be if a doctor were as cheap as an uber driver, or if people healing others didn't get medium security prison as a result. It's the greatest threat to National Security, more than Russia China and the Middle East combined. And it's a military problem, wounded soldiers yeah get help from the Veteran's Association but they have to compete for those doctors and it ends up...out of pocket if they really want good care. Military gets fucked paying for doctors. America spends more money on obesity, than it does on defense. AMA is treason.

Standard Oil had a lot of different shareholders, John D. Rockefeller was never majority owner, that was an organization AMA is an organization there's now medical families. Common heirs. Medical students from a medical family get little hazing compared to the rest. All the maneuvers they make to avoid the words "monopoly" and "cornered market" are of no help and mitigate nothing. So they know people get fucked off with those words, like bad, they're afraid of those words.

I got a little excited, that's all I can say about the flow.

But there is an undercurrent of betrayal, there absolutely is, undermining everything, only visible if you get trapped in it, if not it looks like a meaningless whoopsie.

Change the name to have a Hamming distance of more than 1 from clisp. Like it's a cool language but I think it's very useable, call it something that can't be as easily confused. It's too sneaky to say Clasp instead of Clisp.

Clask, for instance. Two different letters.

No it's not hostile it's just not sucking them either, you want a beautiful world-class city there's taxes, and those taxes bring things like public transport, which is the biggest draw.

Yes there's drug use and filth everywhere. So understand this: they were not special snowflakes, got traumas ripped into them or badly educated or coerced into using drugs. Or, or, or, evicted. Those guys are evicted, you're sneering on them because they couldn't make that landlord totally pleased at the same time as his best friend the boss was totally pleased. Dude fucking impossible rent, like at Stanford economics class they quote $1200, no it's $4000, who knows. Like if the landlord who is a poker player essentially detects you being over a barrel who knows. Like I was talking to an activist this conversation flipped her from NIMBY to YIMBY, I told her look in Santiago there's basically no enforcement of zoning in many places, so people build really high, $200 rent in a good location. She figured they only built housing for rich people in SF, true but then those rich people move to that housing leaving behind empty housing less rich people move into, who leave behind less expensive housing, and so on. Hermit crabs. But not $4000 rent.

So also those people are wretched, which you are not. Some are absurd but they suffer for their drug use not in the future every week. And their public suffering is a service to the landlord in his negotiations which he pays absolutely nothing to them for, I was telling Jonathan Ramos for being wretched on the sidewalk for everybody to treat you like you're invisible, that coercion is worth $3000 a month to the landlord rather than getting bargained down, put in an auction, having to compete against a new building going up right next door (in some neighborhoods there's less of that), the evicteds are valuable to the landlord. Landlord should pay a tax on rent to compensate them for breathing fear into tenants. Like oh my god, if I lose my job I'll get evicted, then I'll get raped! Gasp! Yeah dude people suffering, and from all over America SF takes them all in, because they can survive at night in winter there. You ever worked in construction? You ever stopped a crime? I've stopped 31, no losses, in SF in particular in Chinatown next to the Mission where all those strap-ups do all their advertising on everything about their super-cool credit cards, and advertising platforms. Yes it's cool, no it's not cool.

It is super expensive. Landlord's fault really. And by now the fundamental economics of the city is messed up, though there's plenty of 4 story buildings in place of 60 story buildings.

And you know? Twitter when it was a respectable business (sort of they asked for homework, make them a whole app) stedda censoring a sitting president, no matter what he said, they opened an office in the Tenderloin. I went near there, I think to the Square office which for convenience was adjacent. Dude rough neighborhood, but you gotta let the junkie get something, somewhere, like crack is due to flourine overdose, that's why there was a crack epidemic in America and not elsewhere, and black those hit hardest are very sensitive to flourine. They think it tastes like shit, so that's why they buy bottled water always--an apparently false pejorative stereotype that's true and positive--that's why they don't have every single one of their kids with some psychiatric birth defect. It's the most toxic thing there is, more than plutonium. Corrodes everything, gold even. And it causes sugar cravings, so even for the purpose of better teeth it's counterproductive. That's why there's so many busted fat people in America and not Europe, there's running water in Europe in America? Only brine. Salted on purpose, poisoned hard. Good for your teeth yeah, only reacts with teeth, no other cell, and 97% of the periodic table, literally only 3 molecules that don't react to it in the whole universe.

Eh, flag for human review. Guess it's too strong, this subject. Maybe I'm a little pissed. Must be the salt.

Mmmm...I think it seems to make money beyond its actually making money. I read a lot of interviews about it, find them highly entertaining. I'm a male over the age of 10, that inescapably means having seen it. And was a straight male model (saying straight not as a denial being gay would be better just not gay, straight male model that's not very common) in the modeling business. Like modeling is not that incredibly much more dignified, selling how pretty you look.

Well the thing is yes women hear I got scouted total game-changer. Ends up being nobody actually judges appearance for themself, like I learned to (again, straight model) to gauge competition for a role. Figured out who is handsome and who isn't, don't have a natural sense for that. Nobody decides for himself, people in fact seek models out on the basis of vocation. Some look terrible, the ones who got work bet they looked great on 4K, just not in the same room, they were the only ones acting like I was like nah...maybe looked bad that day. But it's decadent. And everybody wants to sleep with models, especially models.

So in the other industry, people figure hey naked sexually attractive people, decadence, barely legal, anything goes? Has to be profitable. Like prostitution right? Nah. Too efficient. It's sex after all, efficiency is bad. Sex can't be too efficient. There's nothing about the business that's monopolistic, like yes yes there's names but no there's nothing there. Not going to patent any thrusts, it's all pretty old shall we say. Modeling also, similar model strips down almost as far huge camera (they put a ton of their not infinite money into capital giant cameras) takes it all in. True beauty is rare, some people are unique, that is worth something, but mostly there's no monopoly to be had. Celebrity yeah...there is celebrity. But less because people don't gossip about so-and-so, supposedly nobody on hacker news looks at any of that stuff right? Whereas models can be spoken of, actresses actors, people say the name out loud.

Modeling is the opposite of coding, instead of lots of money and few female coworkers it's little money and many female coworkers. Well not so little money like for pictures I was told there you could make good money, a Hollywood insider told me that, I was surprised, totally assumed there was no dollar in the industry.

In general ads want slightly more women than men from my experience, and the women are generally straight, and the other men are generally gay, I'm pretty much asexual since my lynching but basically straight so I fit in, pretty tolerant environment of eg the huge gaps in my resume. Like the police, I got recruited for that too, they don't care you were unemployed for four weeks or 31 days, they only care about their criteria, which is no arrests no driving accidents. Good pay. Modeling, just look good, and be relatively young, don't have to be that young if you're a man though. Like I told them at the time, yeah I was in Stanford, it was hard got told to take time off, they had no issue with that. Whereas like Fortune 500 wants a 3.0 GPA just to start off at the very least, a top twenty university, internships every summer, no gaps in the resume, like 4 interviews, we want this good now we want this good now we want this eh you're out, unpaid homework (which is disgusting, I completed it with original cutting edge research because that was easier for me than getting the hints which I can't), generated responses to try to get you to focus on just one company and then give an insulting offer. Yeah essays telling you how good a fit you are for each other and nurture and then what like there is one thing and then there are two things GPT-4 for teasing candidates. And generally refuse to hire unconditionally, just want to feel in charge, get a really big auction going. At least models didn't with another model like me.

Modeling looks harder than it actually is as far as getting paid, coding looks more profitable but also is just exploitative. Boss impoverishes you every chance he gets in Chile at least. Every metric, everywhere. You have three bosses, you have thirty reqs, you have to write an epic (they should shut the fuck up about epics around me) like the tracking, you get dunned this money, like fuck. Same as porn, fucked business model with no monopoly, always conceiving of it like cornering a market yeah just corner employees.[1] Modeling it's like the money is there, you get work great, you do get paid, if you were smart have a good agent. Dude smart female coworkers man, there's so many models that are really bright, like A+ students just beautiful in addition to that. That's something I've noticed from approaching thousands of women in real life, so much overlap between beautiful and smart, contrary to stereotypes. Just it's a classic for a beautiful woman to be very serious about her studies. One of them told me why don't they make an app so we can get our place in line stedda waiting over three hours, well first off no because those three hours are time to talk to you, and second off no because it does have an exploitative streak still. And third off uh uh, I didn't think of that. Me. I've founded apps.

So honestly I got negged by coder employers much less as a model than as a coder. Really the challenge which is why women and gay men are more plentiful than straight men is really taking care of your appearance, dermatology. Like hours a day in upkeep. Be skinny, that's important so there's that. Wear good clothes to the casting, so invest in your wardrobe, the girl I got my first portfolio done with had beautiful clothes, I neglected that. And the appearance. Like with skin straight men don't even see it, like one straight man I saw I did notice "wow great skin" and that was only because he was a dermatologist himself.

[1] Although due to the nature of torture I only got interest from crappy companies that had no business. Also Facebook, and a few others, but they always identified me as a false positive on an early round--torture, too much spine because I didn't cooperate with it, companies hate that like they hate veterans and American citizenships. Fuck.

daniel-cussen··on A small Stripe fraud story
Well I fund them through taxes I have no obligation to pay--contribuciones voluntarias is the term in Spanish, the stupid thing to do nobody does and nobody sees the merit in. Everybody pays the absolute minimum at the risk of breaking the law, like no. Fucking no. I don't need to be twisted to pay, I can pay out of gratitude. I have the tax document, you want to see it? I paid 45% taxes in absolute terms with less than $10,000 income. It's taxes, not charity, which is the other benefit: I can talk about it, tell people exactly how much I contribute.

And like come on, cops are the only thing that allow me to wake up in the morning, stedda getting gutted in my sleep. Specific reason I had to dodge getting whacked after handing a racketeer to police ten years ago, my life depended on police retaliating for my murder. We had a hostage deep in the joint hopeless legal case, got caught on the scene of the crime because of my defiance. He would have paid for my getting whacked, human shield.[1] Counterproductive whack, when California gets pissed which is never but this was never so when they're pissed, they're perfect. Arrested the racketeer perfectly, like the wheel of the police car wheel rubbed against the sole of his shoe crossing the street, four guys--cavalry arrived--pinning him against the wall with no possibility of accusing them of police brutality. He angled his back into it so they'd hurt him--bitchvictim racketeer--they knew the counter move. He was stealing from the police, rackets mean Starbucks would have to cook the books for that location, that meant no profits, no profits no taxes. Protection money, well there can only be one protector. Taxes, the protection money that doesn't cost twice as much every time you pay.

And they protected me, again, human shield. Tragic fucking story twitching up his allies. Not even perpetual solitary confinement, or just as simple as competition in maximum security, which I'm not sure he got, even medium security, murderers bigger than him in competing gangs, and like no respect for anybody ever, treating him like shit (I've been top dog when falsely incarcerated, I know the cage)...plus prison in California is segregated, so it's not like he can carry on the race war he declared on Daniel Cussen very effectively, can't gang up on whites so much anymore. And like how many allies does he need?

Well so I need an ally in some sense, the police. But taxes mean they're not truly allies, they're protectors. Detectives on the case. It's not that confusing why I paid taxes, it was not unmotivated. Made sure not to pay the minimum, that sucks, pay what you can, don't pay when you can't but pay when you can. Dude State of California is the best, the political culture in California is disgusting the rent the private university deans--but--the State of California has pulled out the impossible with minimal budget. I can make that budget less minimal. So it wasn't much money--$20 a work week at minimum wage--but now I can talk shit about billionaires like Bezos, especially of their charity, which they should shut the fuck up about. You cannot brag about charity.

Taxes are not charity, so you can talk about that, I've talked to Marxists who were very surprised but agreed taxes aren't charity, taxes can be public. Fuck tax deductible charity. Then, you can leave charity totally to the imagination, or revealed long after death. It only cost me $80--half federal, half state, and twenty bucks per week each just off the top of my head--to make Californian billionaires look niggardly. 100% marginal tax rate. And it counts extra because I had so little, Book of Matthew says so. Not like I miss those $80, I dream of all the ways the State could have spent them, on an orphan for instance, an extra budget to treat him with better food on his birthday. Pay less interest on municipal debt. On gas for the squad car so it can get to Kearney and Bush in the time I bought them, a gas guzzler with crazy horsepower comfy seats and a watertight cage in the back. In a top district attorney that can shut police brutality accusations the fuck up. On a judge or especially a juror's diet (like wage), pay those jurors double minimum wage at least, so they don't think of money while they think about guilt. Just about no problem no matter what they spent it on in practice. Some expenditures hurt--fluorine in water especially--but rather than tell them what to spend on, I trust them above myself to come up with ideas.

And I can declare it with no shame--Christ paid 100% taxes, after all, he never gave charity, he alone healed schizophrenics outright but never gave them money. Caesar he did, in the attitude of sossegation (coining the term, based on sosegado in Spanish, beyond serenity, Christianity). And it's as easy as pulling a fish out of the water with a gold coin in his mouth. Dude algorithms are easy, I'm going to set to work to doubling a speedup after posting this. Doubling is easy, but doubling has a cost and if you double nothing you can never pay that cost. And charities just don't work, I can give a beggar money directly instead.

Sierra says not to do this, Sierra says give to Sierra, yeah why would that be, no, these days I cut out the middleman. Give those beggars money for whatever the fuck they want, even crack if that's what they want, the State does that, yeah it's terrible but I'm not the one sitting on the sidewalk doing the work of begging, they are they choose. Tell them about better drugs, upgrade the crack to a stimulant.

I saw one of my friends with all this food and he offered me some and I accepted, it made me so happy to see him eating food, he didn't have to but he did, and then he showed me how much of the gift I gave him he had left over for the following days. Responsibility is partly about the amount of the gift, big payouts are sobering. And just like people helped me out when I was fucked. Doctor Derek Dunham. Doctor Anne Green. 911, 5150, beautiful numbers, my salvation from Mortal Kombat on May 12, 2012.

I couldn't have tanked the whole gangsters infinitely. Racketeer was 5'8", hitman was 5'11", then assassins both 6'4" for sure, then they get taller and taller and heavier and heavier and more and more and no longer weaponless, sumo gangster then I'm plain fucked, double my weight can't do it. I asked that when I trained, what's the weight limit, double my weight? "No." Triple? "No." Sumo? "Sumos are dangerous."

[1] Paid any way he could hey tooth fairy might leave a quarter under his pillow, that's money. He'll pay for all of it. Got genetic sequence done too, he didn't talk but he sucked. Threatened to murder me, and made a team effort, RICO act field day. Pointing at me for seven minutes? Yeah whack incoming, 911 into 5150: "I think I'm being followed" "oh you're feeling paranoid" "yeah" "we'll send police to come get you to a place you'll be safe, 5150, you just stay there".

For this sort of thing you have to always tell some authority first, before doing it, and have them approve of the reason. Like a judge of the Law, a grandmaster, something like that. And if she/he refuses don't ask anybody else, no forum shopping, you can ask the same authority again after many intervening interactions a single second time, or allow him to return to you. Or put it on the blockchain, there has to be a commitment is the term of art. It's cheating after all, there has to be integrity from before the fact.

You have any idea what happens when you dogmatically refuse to cheat?

So in fact market cap was the reason Satoshi Nakamura I divine ended up immolating in 2015, like Lycurgus of Sparta who founded Sparta said don't change the laws until I return, left and starved himself to death, and the laws never changed. Went very well for Sparta. Similar concept of unchanging laws of high integrity in the case of Bitcoin, it was about getting them right from the beginning. Same problem, bad for integrity for the founder to stick around because he can lead, the goal is for the system to be beyond appeal, airtight.

Like it worked out way too well by 2015 and too poorly at the beginning, he thought he would get traction right away (hence the second block taking like a week, this indicates it's the first thing he released) but it didn't. Overshot the difficulty. So he was stuck pre-mining until he again selflessly stopped mining, he could have mined more. And he was an all-around cryptographer, so very very paranoid (job requirement) very hidden, Bitcoin wasn't the only code he wrote I divine the only code he published, similar to the Truecrypt author, went by alias John Smith that guy, who is getting out of prison for murders based on his code, in like five years. That's one alternate universe of Satoshi.

daniel-cussen··on Meta Fined $400M for Treatment of Children’s Data on Instagram
This is part of a process. Originally, the Wild West. Later, being between a newspaper and a telecom. Today, telling me I could ask messages to disappear (which is for real because space is no longer expanding infinitely, and they compete on each app, and because it's verifiable if you can make killer input). And further there's character development, I saw Mark Zuckerberg speak in public twice on Stanford campus, he was better the second time a year later, this was face-to-face. The first time he made the audience laugh, the second time he made the audience laugh. Night and day, and that was 2011 to 2012.

This is actually a meaningfully-sized fine. It's good for Facebook, undoes how pissed people are (on this forum for one) about how small fines have been, leads to moral development. It's easier to weigh money higher when it's more money. You don't get as many MBA's versus ethicists. Talk stock not stakeholders, can actually crunch the numbers. Like punishment has to hurt but if it does it leads to moral development, it's a language they understand as a company. Lots of punishment I'm grateful for. Made me better.

Like there is no way for a company that size to respect a $4 million fine, no matter how much it wanted to, bigger fines are win-win.

daniel-cussen··on Why was western printing superior to Asian printing?
It's not just the alphabet size, it's that you need many of each glyph to make a page, and it varies a lot. So also if you're using a Chinese character repeatedly in an essay, you're going to need lots of those glyphs to make that page, so you need really really huge collections of glyphs to make anything.

It's a game of scrabble essentially.

And in addition Gutenberg found an alloy using antimony, a metal nobody had any uses for in absolute, but was known to be toxic (anti-mony anti-monk killed the monks who volunteered for testing its toxicity, similar to the Jesuits with malaria, Catholic scientific testing). So he was a jeweller and he banged out an allow that slightly expanded when cooled, it was always the opposite until that point...I'm not sure if with bronze too. Antimony, tin and silver IIRC. So expensive glyphs, and further once the Americas started pumping out silver the economics of the printing press improved a lot, because it was silver-intensive.

Further, printing presses every now and then piss the fuck out of the ruler, when that happens the whole place gets confiscated so there go your millions of Chinese silver glyphs, and all the work into making them the typography, that's expensive. China is also centralized geographically, so censorship was too easily carried out, resistance was impossible. On the other hand in India it was too fragmented, no common language, also problematic for literacy, letters, glyph sets. Though they didn't do badly, China in terms of the development of books I would have to say did do badly, sometimes it's that simple. Invented paper, gunpowder, the compass, and gave them all away to Europe.

There's more to it, it made sense to have carved wood blocks in the context. I'll truncate here.

So your mistake is thinking, they have trademarks, they're American, they have documents are well formatted, no type-os, the advertise, they're incorporated, and more than anything they have money.

But it's not like similar industries.

It's the industry of treating you like shit. You are biomass to them, they want 20% interest while paying 1% interest (like two years ago), you can't compare saying it's a 19% spread what it is is the 18th power of the interest they pay. That's very abnormal historically, most usurers in the Middle Ages getting the whole town to kill them for their avarice had much skinnier spreads. 18th power is very unusual. Stretches out their time by a factor of 18. It's like street businesses, like crack dealing or pimping, which perpetually insult the people who are the foundation of their wealth.

Anybody care to say why they censored my parallel comment? It's now completely illegible now.

I like losing karma best comments are gray, but this forum unfortunately lets everybody censor anybody. Points in favor don't make the text any clearer, but points in favor make it illegible. Even under highlighting, you have to copy paste to a different app, you have to leave the web app altogether. And there's troll farms with hackernews.com on their coverage, they make software for instance, which says black is positive points, then for 0 or below you have an automatic color dropper (probably just reads the html) and then you can choose how much you want to censor it yourself sir with our troll farm app. And we can keep it at 0 no matter how many "biological users" upvote it.

Like why are points only visible if they're negative? For integrity you should make positive points huge, 50pt, bold, maybe spice up the font.

Back when it was points, nobody cared. This is about legibility. It is physically painful to try to read comments grayed out and they don't even show them to you if you highlight. You know that is a real form of cowardly censorship with books? Books that hurt to read, bad fonts mistakes on purpose poor contrast, meant punishing reading without permission. In fact does cause eye damage, squinting then eye degeneration, highly desirable because then they will never read anything again.

Relevant today in Chile, the absolute worst-functioning book market and the absolute highest book prices, backed by what is secretly a monopoly, after literally burning books and even torturing people based on their bookshelf. Threatening them openly so they would burn their books out of their own accord.

Like if it were karma, I would say nothing, and I still am saying nothing about karma. But if writing is sneakily censored, that's different. It shows up gray only when you log out. I brought the matter of legibility up formally.

None of this punishes me, like get real I got whacked, I got lynched, I'm a survivor. It punished my readers. It punishes you.

People have to die and keep dying for you to be able to read.

I'm trying to come up with the alternative, because it turns out there must be a leader and he or she must set things up so there can be another way. Just has to be a virtuous leader who is virtuous because he wants to, like the ideal Confucian Korean King.

I'm considering how much to pay people for commuting, I can if I can afford it, just need a lot of profit from a lot of margin from a huge speedup. I know how to do that, that yes. The rest is highly speculative.

This is factual and I can prove it is that way from the very beginning of the formation of the economy, when compound interest behaves nearly linearly. But not linearly. From the very beginning. There are arrangements and something feels off but it's mostly (it really is mostly) a very good arrangement for all parties.

Then the aptly termed late-stage capitalism, which is not a bullshit thing it's a mathematical concept too. Worked it out in detail, without adjectives, connotations, plain.

So early game, capitalism is better, late game, communism is better. Really the best is nature the entire time.

daniel-cussen··on Why people make dumb financial decisions on purpose
No, not even then. You shouldn't play games other people arrange in any way, except ie educationally, or for the pleasure of winning and nothing else. Not with money.

Prizes for challenges, maybe. Chess tournaments with a buy-in, that I respect because no luck involved, meaning no tipping the scales no cheating.

So the problem in gambling is when you just lost a big bet of money you didn't need and the only way to recover is putting up a tiny bit of money you do need. By nature gambling--and by the way it's sold--is designed to fuck with that fine line.

daniel-cussen··on Why people make dumb financial decisions on purpose
Yeah like why are the numbers so enormous? Game shows typically require signing up, a lot of waiting, backgrounders, castings even, they don't treat you great, and they tease money but never pay it. Like one time per game show, not per season, per show.

And it fucks people's reasoning about money up, you can't go into a raise negotiation with those game show numbers getting your personal finances and your leverage and expectations out of whack. Same as fashion magazines, just seeing a pretty shirt and seeing it costs $45000 for instance instantly fucks your notion of the value of a dollar.

And bosses insisting on hair samples to test for drug use in the previous six months (wear a crew cut say you like looking like soldiers), that's not justified in all cases, some people use marihuana for endless work trances, do great work, 1 in 15 or so.

You have to let people take vitamins. That's what vitamins are, they're drugs, we depend on them, we're addicted to Vitamin A, we're addicted to all the Vitamins B, we're addicted to Vitamin C, we're addicted to Vitamin D even. Vitamin E...a bit. Can't make it ourselves--that's the alternatives generally--so we gotta find it somewhere. And tell you what, sailors by all means crave fruit when they have scurvy. Big Pharma, in their highest-secrecy shit they think nobody not even the NSA can see (they tell themselves a story why it's airtight) discuss rationing Vitamin C in the future.

It's for our own good, being we're addicts and all.

Heroin junkies I consider totally respectable, not interested in heroin but they're really cool, Heath Ledger for one, Philip Seymour-Hoffman, Keith Richards, and of course the addicts in the Nazi experiments, who in fact were allowed to self-medicate freely all-you-can-eat, sit back and watch. They went up and up and up, all the way to a gram a day, and this was pure not the Stockholm syndrome increasingly-diluted crap the "chasing the dragon" shit the dosage gaslighting. So in the Nazi experiment, the junkies all caught the dragon. Makes sense they chased that dragon to begin with, and they all had been ripped with tragedies really subhumanized.

I think I'm at the length limit so let me add: it's an auction. A contest, a betrayal contest.

When everyone goes along with the abuse, the amount of abuse goes up. Instantly. Not even overnight, like 8AM to 9AM. The only thing that protected the dignity of Chileans was--for a long time--the resistance, counter-terrorist (officially designated as such by the President in the final radio address, a message that carries official weight, final instructions from a shrink in fact--he researched psychiatry--but more of like a psych, a real attendant of the soul. And as such his suicide was unconditionally heroic, not cowardly by any means. The Chilean left tiptoes around this, uh-uh. Suicide is legitimate under the threat of torture. Better to die than betray. The other option was in fact to cooperate, get threatened all the time by everyone, suck up to the worst people on earth, and the biggest thing--bid up the betrayal contest, and betray. Treason. Betrayal. The absolute worst, the lowest circle of Hell. I've been told by many doctors I'm stupid to think such a thing, for real, like in practice not on film in real life. But it's not so strange. Some people are smart, they cooperate. Some people are dumb, they don't. But don't think you're so smart, if it hadn't been me it would have been up to you, could you have done what I did?

I actually think you could in fact. Everyone, the instant you realize the betrayal contest is a set-up, and they capture you--you have a limit too, believe it or not. It will come as a total surprise, but you can only take so much. At some point, there are conditions (which is what this experiment is, measuring those conditions to get as close to them as possible) under which you physically couldn't submit (shrinks unanimously agree to the contrary). Maximum suffering with no consequences, science applied to the mind. Your dignity is defined by your courage. At any rate the Chilean Idealists--especially the detenidos desaparecidos (not going to translate that)--those guys stuck up to torture, that's why they erased all traces of them. Didn't want to see how much a man can take and still not cooperate. José María Sepúlveda. They erased the really dangerous ones, the ones who were totally right and totally wronged, they guys who bit and shit and nobody wanted to be assigned to torture. And three thousand of them, tres mil, under those specific conditions of erasure. Three thousand really dangerous men and women, on a totally different level than anything I've ever done or been through. I went in like a lot of people, them to much worse than me, comparatively speaking my only merit was making it out. Live to tell the tale, nothing more.

Them? Just wow.

daniel-cussen··on How the Physics of Nothing Underlies Everything
No, like it has absolutely no give initially. Then it briefly opens and air floods in, and then force you were exerting is no longer held back by the force of the atmosphere on the suction sphere (treat the opposing force of the other team as horses as being symmetrical, despite it not being so, they communicate with their force on usually a man getting torn apart, the basis for the experiment, science being stronger than the human body). Horses don't want to put their poor specially adapted (for riding) backbone into a prank. When they sense weird shit, they don't pull the same way, looks like it but eh, if you could go back in time and put a spring measuring newtons of force (which this contributed to developing, hence back in time, Hooke came later), they're not going for it like an executioner's horse quartering a man told to die. Then yes and I think the opposite forces of horses in both directions is based on quartering, tearing limbs apart, tearing the sphere in two. That's what it's based on. Horses don't frequently pull things apart except those told to die. Like to work it has to be antagonistic, like there ought to be a bet of some sort. Bets as challenges have their place, it can be very little money or mutually desired rivalrous good. The setup is a huge thing, like how do you cast the ball, how thick is the metal (this makes it give initially when pulled, that comes into play), not just how much pressure and how good the seal, which are of course the figures of merit. The measurement, how much you can pull, what the limit is.

This was good science overall, but beware using living things in experiments like this.

The experimenter and participant can switch places.

Changing the subject a bit, the scientist must have made smaller brass balls for himself to try to pull apart. And it's so subjective, like the puppies that were smarter than the shrinks electrocuting them, knew it was torture and being a dog.

Spesh a puppy, according to the shrinks because then they learn faster which was what the learned helplessness experiment was about, also blank slate for reproducible experiments, and finally a bit of cruelty. I've seen the faces they make sometimes, in sick mode. Again, might as well switch places, me telling them what's up. They were practicing for humans later, the industry for electric dog collars is nothing like the industry around torture. Torture is very expensive to administer, huge losses. What 1984 outlines is incredibly expensive if that's the only form of oppression. But it's not, that's only for the patsy, the hero, whatever you prefer to call him. Even in Chile, where it was massive, they just couldn't torture such an incredible number of people because it's so dirty and it takes a lot of people to run the torture apparatus. Couldn't torture four million people, that would require four hundred million people just to operate at a loss, meaning all of humanity as its slave class subsidizing it, and then who tortures all humanity? No, that doesn't scale. What scales is fear. And never revealing their own fear, like they did to me, never being exposed as being the only true bitch in the system. Like in 1984, which it turns out I live-action-role-played, you read it and at some point it's like, O'Brien is a complete bitch. He needs a full-on Egyptian pyramid (inefficient for space, good for monuments though, which is what Miniluv actually is), with a dungeon, tons of guards for a mile on all sides, no getting out no getting in (secret passages), no Brotherhood. And logistically it's a crazy money-loser. Says so right in the book, they're very wasteful.

Like get this: they actually have a guy carefully putting dust back on Winston Smith's book exactly like he did with in one second, taking like an hour very very carefully, that's a career path for some total loser. It's 3600-to-1 and they brag about it anyway.

O'Brien gets a great wage let me tell you, and everyone in that building is at least in their own view handsomely paid for blind loyalty, and their sadism really, job requirement, like the sadism bribes of government land Pinochet handed out for pittances to the most sadistic and abstracted political supporters, in the elite of course, way below market prices. And they loved him forever, set up a flight Santiago to London direct motherfucking Pinochet airlift, again the inefficiency plane after plane of sychophant must have been weekly or biweekly, just to get the one asshole out without any consequence. Call it 100 airplanes to lift that fat ass out of London, just to clean up after his shit. All the people that the operation required, duh yes lawyers but so much more behind the scenes, so many specialists, each with their field working together as a team.

Like in 1984 there's a guy preparing the heroin for the hero to him addicted to giving in just a tiny bit, you know that bartender went to an institute to specialize in getting the measures right, just enough heroin (it's heroin, it's real heroin in the Miniluv, uncut) to seduce him into thinking he can think he is a bitch, but not that much, they're still mostly torturing him. The funhouse mirrors with screens behind them, same thing, that's a national security first priority getting those special effects built to the highest standard, like there's a make-up crew to paint Winston Smith horribly when he's passed out to make him believe that he really is being bitched in his heart of hearts. Dude and nobody does any work in that book, tells you how privileged Orwell was in a way, he thought he could be a writer or intellectual, yeah. Yeah an intellectual who participates in torture, O'Brien, then yes. Need that degree though, very into the certificate and especially the prestige. Typically, though, intellectuals are persecuted just as Salvador Allende predicted in his final radio address, when the Republic of Chile announced it was operating under the same name, but a change in management due to treason. Still in power, a long golden age for traitors, and it seemed like it would last forever...

Or let's put it another way.

Your choice.

Be a bitch or die being a hero. Die under torture. Or be a bitch.

And in the end, people get what they want. Ends up being, the subtext, is millions of Chileans were subjected to the threat of torture, millions of cases of extortion, because most people aren't so...stupid, as the shrinks put it. They're smart, they let someone else take the fall. But don't underestimate yourself! There is absolutely some threshold of abuse (eg making you eat dog meat, or human feces, or force you to penetrate another victim) at which you wouldn't try delegating the dying to someone else. Don't think there's not a hero in there somewhere! Why else would you watch those movies? That Batman Superman Joker shit resonates with you because in fact most of the genome comes from heroes. It's a remote possibility but that's the entire genome, heroes and heroines. Like most of the genome, like 66% is from the Cambrian explosion, that's the basic outline of vertebrates, crazy era, the Justice League, so idealistic. So every so often, and you can tell age of fossils with this because it's like a clock, a mutation brings about a new protein. Molecular clock, literally. Like 10,000 years. A defect within a defect, in fact. There is a local maximum, this is a departure from that, hence defect, with the stigma, defect. Then, something happens and you go even farther out--and attempts to go with the herd are hopeless. And this protein made him different. It's rare but it's like the whole genome, apart from that it's remixes, like deciding in what order to watch Batman and Superman movies for the millionth time.

But don't think those actors with their special effects are the heroes! You're more of a hero for watching that movie than they are for starring in it, by a lot. And they aren't actually heroes in a Roman Law capacity as they , people confuse actor with character. On the contrary, Heath Ledger! I actually did that exact same shit to a real gangster, made my getaway just like Heath Ledger, like a glitch in the system. Declared a hero, told what I did was perfect. And that was just the beginning, long weekend, long ten years of silence. But what happened ultimately? Justice, the dungeon being put to original intended use. A bitch in the system.

daniel-cussen··on The Portuguese can no longer afford to live in Portugal
There is such a thing as a rich refugee. People in the mining business, when a country goes supercritical (more than Brexit, like Cuba) their bright career prospects decouple from their prospects politically, so confiscation is on the table even if "they were cool" because eg the Cuban Revolution needed money and now everyone is meant to have the same amount of sustenance anyway. New definition of what's fair. They operate under more recent definition, I would say every single person has a different definition of fairness.

Incompatible definitions of fairness. They have in practice a much higher metabolism requiring more pure ingredients, from better sources, it's medically harmful to cut them off like instantly. Although at the same time they contribute to both the problem and solution, like it depends. Turns out very rough to adapt to on short notice, flat-out can't in many cases, and for sure you can't send your kid to any random Cuban school with kids on the other side of a former class divide, from one day to the next? Like how are you going to tell that kid? Just gotta be "really cool", in the "they was cool", sense, and some kids make it and others can't, wretched childhood. Although at the same time Fidel Castro, biographically, grew up among blacks because his father didn't recognize him fully, not even a second son, so he knew it could be done and there was the will that it happen.

And people will price discriminate against that kid forever, never accept he's no longer rich unless he's filthy in rags...that's a rough sketch of it. Misery all of a sudden, and metabolically difficult, like it's not just 2000 calories here's some water with fluoride for your teeth boom done. It wouldn't take your body 24 hours a day if it took a single sentence to summarize like I just did. Water alone, Americans aren't supposed to drink Chilean water or they get diarrhea like automatically, it could be anything, selenium plus manganese in the water table, natural salts (as opposed to NaF) that are systematically removed in America. It's along the same lines as toothpastes in Chile having over 6x the sodium flouride of American toothpastes. Like literally you couldn't buy those same toothpastes in America without a dentist's prescription, I innocently told them 5000 ppm pharmacist looked at me said "No that you need a prescription" like it was opioid that kind of reaction. I was actually prescribed toothpaste weaker than the only strength toothpaste Walmart sells in Chile, it's all 1650, like eating the color white, kids hate it because it's good to hate it because it's bad for you. Counterproductive, makes people become busted and scream at their kids, everyone in the family going to the Walmart to buy cookies. Makes you crave. Gives you ADD, I actually--it turns out--don't have any symptoms of ADD--and I generally have literally every single one and nothing else--when I cut fluoride out of my life. Drank from a well. I actually paid attention, as a verb, for once in my life. Like a colorblind guy seeing blue for the first time. So weird, now I know what people are talking about.

So if you don't want F poisoning, which is exactly what the fuck that's all about for political reasons, there it is again, didn't want this country to turn into another Cuba, Socialist Sandwich as Nixon put it, you flourinate really hard. Breakfast lunch and dinner, inescapable, it's a super expensive subsidy but it's not for your teeth, it's for your brain, it is incapacitating so you don't eg sue or protest. If you know the way around here in Santiago, you'll figure out you have to pay triple at a homeopathic store, the pharmacies don't carry any toothpaste that doesn't F you 1650 ppm. Either you go way out of your way or go without toothpaste, which is a thing for instance in Cuba. Everyone has a hard time adapting to that.

So that's an example of adapting, and it can take decades. And it's expensive to adapt, hard-learned lessons like flunking courses at Stanford in my case because I was consenting to absurd doses of fluorine, not knowing the harm. Not one ADD doctor brought it up, like they have them on a gag order, it's the most obvious shit nobody had ADD in the 50's and then you F'ed up the water and now everyone has to see a shrink, 2 + 2 equals what?

So the wealth and political status decouple, and they benefited when times were good, and then...well they get a new citizenship somewhere else and adapt to that, not Cuba but maybe 60's Brazil, learn the language which is work, learn the laws under which they must now live, and relearn the balance of power what the traps are what the actual opportunities are...and be a survivor, there are people left behind that couldn't get out, not savvy enough, bad airport game missed the last flight, and yeah they have money but they get charged much more for everything. Like the parent poster. Price discrimination evens things out in the end. That's what you replied to.

Dude a raft is not what determines refugee status, it doesn't have to be a giant pornographic Hollywoodesque stereotype of all the tropes of taking refuge--which is what the word means--to qualify in my book. Being hated is enough.

But always know they are training wheels, in your dominant language (same idea as dominant hand), you must use no training wheels. Learn the language any way you can, take classes (for sure in person) but at least be native in one language, to the point nobody thinks you're an outsider.

Part of the issue for the horse is it'll be his first vacuum ever pulled, he doesn't have any knowledge of how to break that weight. Meaning get the motion started, it's got a different response to force than what that horse knows, eg carriages and plows, very different, you can plot it, totally different.

The bias they introduce into my human (when it's a human) interaction is impossible to undo, I turned all all that shit off, if I want to write "Nice to see you! Yeah it was good. // See you!" I didn't even read off the screen what I wrote the first time around, I just literally closed my eyes and typed from memory, incorrectly but so be it. I see negative impact being when the boss wants a breakneck pace--marathons at sprint speeds--and won't accept that can't get 99.9 percentile servitude (in tons of ways desiring robotic programmers) at 49.9 percentile wages. If that, I've aced interviews and those shitty homeworks with original cutting-edge research judging which was beyond them, in some cases, and gotten 30 percentile offers. Mostly because I have a tortured man's resume, I got tortured, can't answer simple biographical questions like "where were you working April 2009." [EDIT: Not bitter about the torture, best thing that ever happened to me in a fucked-up roundabout way, in fact I wish I had the memories of the torment, it was a part of my life like any other. I do have many more memories of getting twisted and knee-locked and choked in Japanese Jujutsu the year I was tortured, I love that sport, couldn't get enough] The attitude was totally different before that, for the most part. Like teacher's pet, that kinda shit.

Basically discriminating against veteran status. I didn't commit a crime or get arrested, and not even technically a victim because I didn't cave to the coercion, victis winning was won over. But not a lot I can do about (I don't know) In-Q-Tel limited edition Guantanamo roofies that violate the laws of physics like getting inside the Einstein's concept of an observer, inside the brain. Lived through a two-month autumn, saw the sun leap from solstice orbit to winter orbit, that in practice is superluminal, for me it was.

Back to the vets, yeah that's what's up, they see a lot of backbone they are repulsed by that, can't steal any wages from a veteran he won't take one unit of shit on any scale, if he's a killer, like killed 500 guys (snipers say), he doesn't even have to tell his boss no doesn't even have to really do anything, not stealing candy from a baby anymore. The boss could give him shit if he had say killed 1000 men himself, perhaps then some small amount. But really they would have respect for one another, vets end up working for defense contractors who think it's good that they didn't take shit because then America doesn't take shit. Defense.

We're about to go to war, too, those who forget the soldiers are destined to be forgotten. Not any day now, not for 2 months. But heroism will be considered good again. It's been a while.

You should only be able to claim you are hiring if you can pay the same percentile salary as the percentile programmer you desire. Otherwise false advertising. Like insulting even by options traders standards, they'll insult you back if you want to buy shares way below market if the intent is to lie in wait for a sucker. They'll like say "Fuck you" give a speech, for good reason, and not only that, they'll burn you to the person who put you two in touch.
