When you've got to carry it, yes.

LCD has much better colour accuracy right now, probably because it's a much more mature technology.
danbee··on Apple iPhone charger teardown: quality in an tiny expensive package
Anybody know of a teardown of the UK iPhone charger?

> The ideal solution IMO would be something like Progressive JPEG (with less artifacts): you serve a single high-quality image, and the browser downloads as much of it as it sees fit for the situation. Smaller images would be created from a large, lower quality download.

I thought about that as a solution as well. The issue though is that taking the half resolution portion of a progressive JPEG or PNG will result in significant aliasing.

danbee··on Perian is shutting down
As asmala said, you can sync to Dropbox, plus it has a web based version that works great directly from the Dropbox web interface. So you can access your passwords anywhere you can log into Dropbox.

404 for me on Debian Wheezy.
danbee··on Sinclair's ZX Spectrum turns 30
It will probably need a new keyboard membrane. Thankfully there are companies making new ones and selling them on eBay. :)
danbee··on IPhone Will Fail in a Late, Defensive Move (2007)
I seem to remember it was on most Android phones, and sent quite a lot of data back to the carriers.

Has everyone forgotten about CarrierIQ?

You're brave! Or you must be a Debian stable user...

danbee··on Apple iPad & Samsung Galaxy Note – The Great Stylus Debate
I guess it might have been better to not use the pay-per-brush model and just offer a single upgrade price to get everything. Still, you get to try it for free.
danbee··on Apple iPad & Samsung Galaxy Note – The Great Stylus Debate
I'd hardly call £5 obscene.

danbee··on Mercedes to introduce Siri in its vehicles
I've only skimmed the article, but it looks like they're not actually integrating Siri so much as introducing an easy way to interface an iPhone 4S with the car.
danbee··on Headphones for Hackers
You're right, the 380's do have an easier to replace cable. They're readily available from online retailers. I bought mine from DV247.com after reading Marco's review (http://www.marco.org/2012/01/27/sennheiser-hd-380-pro-headph...).
danbee··on Headphones for Hackers
The HD-280's are great headphones, but the HD-380's are a significant upgrade. Better bass response and more open sounding. They sound extremely similar to my HD-595's.
danbee··on About Gatekeeper
Most users don't read dialogue boxes and will just click on 'Yes'.
danbee··on Walter Isaacson’s ‘Steve Jobs’
As someone who has owned both the 4 and the 4S, I can tell you that the antenna issue that was present on the 4 is no longer an issue on the 4S.
danbee··on Back on Linux (after one year of Apple and OS X)
My MacBook Pro maxes out at 16Gb. Putting that much in would have cost me 4-5x as much as going for 8Gb! RAM is cheap, but there's a definite sweet spot much of the time.

8Gb is more than enough for the time being.

danbee··on Back on Linux (after one year of Apple and OS X)
I've read that OpenSUSE is one of the best KDE distro's around.

The header is no longer being inserted for me. I think O2 must have fixed the problem.

danbee··on Subtle Patterns: Free textures for your next web project
To be fair, my monitor IS calibrated and those two patterns are very dark here. I have to look quite closely to make out any detail.
danbee··on 3.5 Inches
This. It's all very well talking about how suitable the screen size is for thumb reach, but I bet being a decent size to fit in a pocket was also very much part of the decision too.
danbee··on VMware Fusion 4 Released
I found my 2010 MacBook Pro with 4Gb unbearably slow even without running VMware Fusion. Mac OS X really requires 8Gb these days, unless you're running an SSD.
danbee··on VMware Fusion 4 Released
There's a good reason why you can't. If you suspend Boot Camp in VMware and then try and reboot into it it could cause corruption of your Boot Camp partition. If you really want to do it though I seem to remember reading about a plist tweak that adds the options back in.

I believe the head crash occurred on a different disk pack, one that they were using to test it.
