Thirty-two years ago, I got them tattooed onto my leg, the day after I arrived at Ft. Bragg, NC. It's faded and blurred out from the waxing and waning of muscle tone in my calf, and sunlight, and the occasional scrape from crashing the bike. But it's been part of me for so long, the only real option left is to get it lasered-down and redone.

Great show despite the suburban light pollution (20 miles south of Minneapolis). And we’re still not at the peak of the solar cycle until 2026.

This was what finally spurred me to learn the night mode settings on my iPhone camera. (Hint: use 10-second exposures.) Even got some half-decent results:

With the amount of money to be made, I don't know that legal weed or gambling sites are going anywhere.

dan-bailey··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2025)
For personal use, an MCP agent so that I can link Claude Desktop to my Todoist instance.
dan-bailey··on Ask HN: How do I give back to people helped me when I was young and had nothing?
I asked myself this same question years ago. And then I asked the mentor who had built me up — he told me to do the same for others. And so I did. And now there’s a group of people out there whose lives are better because their careers are better, and if I can take pride in anything that I’ve done in my life, it’s that. (And when they ask, I just tell them to pay it forward.)

Oh my god, yes, this is useful. I do some freelance dev work for a small marketing agency, and I inherit a lot of Wordpress sites that show all the hallmarks of passing through multiple developers/agencies over the years, and the CSS and Javascript are *always* crufty with years of accumulated bad practices. I'm eager to try this.

I mean, you can avoid going over the bars by riding a recumbent, but that's not going to be a viable solution for riding singletrack. The real trick is teaching people how to fall. I had a coach back in the 90's who was big on that, and it's become instinctual enough where the last time I went over the bars (mid-2023), I was able to manage my landing where I hobbled away with a massive bruise on my thigh, and not much else. I don't know that I've ever seen an MTB skills class that teaches you how to fall properly.
