dalmo3··on Chrome extensions spying on users' browsing data
Pardon the ignorance but what's being exploited by someone buying a video game character?
dalmo3··on I am happier writing code by hand
To be fair a lot of bloat and gruntness are safety nets we built for our own benefit. Static typing, linting, test harnesses, visual regressions, CI etc. If AI to do the legwork there while I focus on business logic and UX, it's a win-win.
dalmo3··on I am happier writing code by hand
Excellent insight. And thanks for addressing the actual subject rather than the analogy.
dalmo3··on Show HN: Moltbook – A social network for moltbots (clawdbots) to hang out
We can't even agree on what "is" is...
dalmo3··on AISLE’s autonomous analyzer found all CVEs in the January OpenSSL release
Not pointless. I had no idea what the original wording meant.
dalmo3··on When two years of academic work vanished with a single click
I still don't understand what could've have happened here. I'm not a chatgpt user so I'm not familiar with the UI.

He starts out saying he "disabled data consent". That wording by itself doesn't mean delete the content at all. The content could theoretically live in local storage etc. He says the data was immediately deleted with no warning.

Then OpenAI replies that there is a confirmation prompt, but doesn't say what the prompt says. It could still be an opaque message.

Finally, he admits he "asked them to delete" the data.

dalmo3··on There is no comfortable reading position
I could read all day on a hammock.

Unfortunately that just moves the goalposts to "there's no place to install a hammock in my house".

dalmo3··on Eat Real Food
A must visit, though I have no idea how anyone could possibly get past the single bypass...
dalmo3··on Test, don't just verify
> People will be incentivized to actually figure out what they want

That's the AGI I want to see.

dalmo3··on Ask HN: Is Stack Overflow Dead?
It's still a great source for Perplexity :)
dalmo3··on Please just try HTMX
> So what's failing

You're failing to understand the difference between react and react-dom.

> be able to code against the react API in typescript

dalmo3··on Ask HN: Claude Opus 4.5 vs. GPT 5.1 Codex Max for coding. Worth the upgrade?
I'm using Opus through Cursor, but not a heavy user so price is "the same".

Opus is so good I can actually give it a task and move my attention somewhere else. So although the model itself is much slower my general workflow is faster and less frustrating.

dalmo3··on After 40 years of adventure games, Ron Gilbert pivots to outrunning Death
Funny you mentioned Disco Elysium. I played the game when it was first released and had no audio dialogue. I read moderately fast, but I never skipped any dialogue and always explored all branches my skills allowed. It took me 40 hours to finish.

When audio dialogue was released I played it again and I couldn't stand the slower pace. It'd have probably taken 150h to finish the game again like that. So I switched to another language that was text only. (Btw, having a hotkey to switch between languages on the fly is AMAZING design).

All I'm saying is I'm agreeing with GP, going fast didn't mean I didn't care, quite the opposite as going faster meant I could explore more options.

dalmo3··on Human Fovea Detector
I get some slightly rotated pear shaped thingy but also varies with where I'm looking at. Crazy!
dalmo3··on Human Fovea Detector
That reminds me of myself as a kid looking at the moon and losing focus after just a few seconds. I could never figure it out.
dalmo3··on Reminder to passengers ahead of move to 100% digital boarding passes
So instead of one proprietary app now you need two?

What's darker than dark?

dalmo3··on My Impressions of the MacBook Pro M4
Compare apples to apples, e.g. gaming, and the difference is glaring.
dalmo3··on Nearly 90% of Windows Games Now Run on Linux
Same. Tried Pop OS and Cachy OS. Multiple devices.

A tiny minority of my steam library even runs at all. Most games I click Play, nothing happens, 5 seconds later the play button is green again. The ones that run, stutter.

Is it still possible if I persist? Probably, but so much for this "just works" marketing.

dalmo3··on What if tariffs?
It can't not be clockwise.
dalmo3··on We do not have sufficient links to the UK for Online Safety Act to be applicable
What if you're flying to France and your plane has to make an emergency landing in the UK?

Genuine question.

dalmo3··on Against SQL (2021)
404.

...Or is that the joke?

dalmo3··on Claude Skills
For Cursor: cursorrules, mdc rules, user rules, team rules.
dalmo3··on Nue 2.0 Beta released! The Unix of the web
AI slop really doesn't help get you point across.
dalmo3··on The death of industrial design and the era of dull electronics
No results for ctrl-f kitsch.
dalmo3··on Drunk CSS
The irony is that, at least on mobile, you have to be sober to even find the Drunk button.
dalmo3··on YouTube Music is testing AI hosts that will interrupt your tunes
It really whips the LLM's ass.
dalmo3··on ChatGPT Pulse
The one modern thing that didn't have a feed, and (in the best case) just did what you asked.

Next week: ChatGPT Reels.

dalmo3··on [dead]
It's a docker image, NOT qbittorrent.
dalmo3··on You did this with an AI and you do not understand what you're doing here
The user is now expressing sarcasm.
dalmo3··on Less is safer: Reducing the risk of supply chain attacks
I'm really curious about this comment. What would it mean for a programming language to be secure?

Any two Turing-complete programming languages are equally secure, no?

Surely the security can only ever come from whatever compiles/interprets it? You can run JavaScript on a piece of paper.
