dahoramanodoceu··on Tiny Apps
This is why i have the habit of never updating anything unless it's linux.
dahoramanodoceu··on Tiny Apps
This is a wonderful trend. I've been griping about bloated apps for ages. There's a huge accessibility issue for people in Latin-America and Africa, where most people's computers still have no more than 2G of ram.

i prefer PDFs because they are easier to store offline and easier to move around.
dahoramanodoceu··on What Is Ethereum?
I'm super interested in making cryptocurrency printable and exchangable.

It would be cool to make coins out of bits of recycled computer chips and resin, and only allow the e-waste recyclers to mint them. The global poor become our new bankers. ='D

Tip: grab a movie with slow-to-moderately paced dialogue and varied speaking styles like ghost in the shell innocence from 00:09:30 to 00:20:00 ish. read the subtitle first. Open the srt file and read it. Watch the episode with or without the subtitle so you know what's going on, and cuz the movie is beautiful. Next rip the mp3 or aac of that section of the movie with some added volume, i used 10db.

Now listen to this every night right before bed, and try to parrot off whatever they are saying verbatim. comprehension has no relevance. Just repeat it. Rewind if you want. Make a game out of it. 'Im gonna do my best to make this exact combination of noises with my mouth. dont try to do too much at once. 5-30minute spurts are a good range. It should not be the center of your day, at first, now matter how bad you want to learn. a good rule of thumb is u should spend about as much time as it takes for you to do your morning bathing and hygene ritual.

Add it to your music playlists so it catches you off guard. hunt down some more pieces of films you like and grab the audio of those. alternate between a few audios. adding them incrementally 1 3 5 5 5 5 5 5 10 20

dahoramanodoceu··on Ask HN: What's your process for building a community around your product?
That is the big question, isn't it.

It depends on so many things it's hard to define specific things, as each combination is distinct. It's like striking up and holding a conversation. How do you do that? That is what you are doing with the community.

Find out who they are. Find out what they want. Find out what they like Find out what they need. Try a bunch of combinations of these 4 observations that makes them happy enough with you to engage.

This is a great strategy.
dahoramanodoceu··on The Presence of One’s Own Smartphone Reduces Available Cognitive Capacity
You are right. Consolidating and ruminating are essential. Feeling bored is important. Having the patience to tolerate it is a very important skill.
dahoramanodoceu··on My Ubuntu for mobile devices post-mortem analysis
there's a ton of room! there's a vendor stranglehold on android architecture that is stifling movement in this area. Use your imagination a bit, dude.

if we had a hackable open source and libre linux phone, even if the user base were 1 percent or .5%, we would likely start to see shifts in user interface and functionality design on the mainstream platforms-- besides, it'd be super rad to be able to actually use my phone for m0re than mindlessly scrolling 'feeds' and messaging.

as a cash-strapped third worlder constantly on the move in a mega-city, termux has been a huge relief for me and postmarketOS and other players looks promising.

i'd seriously be interesting in commercializing such a device to the raspbi/arduino/developr/hacker crowd. it's got lots of money, lots of clout, is clearly identified, growing and diversifying, and has been proven to spend money on interesting and useful tech. Any takers ?

>[...] but if the NSA or GCHQ is willing to go to that much trouble just to monitor you, you have bigger problems.

This type of argument contains the assumption that it would be too much trouble for them/not worth it to monitor an affluent anarchist or semi- anti-authortitarian with an above-average IQ.

We've seen that A) their resources are as virtually unlimited as their paranoia B) tech developments have driven down the cost of sophisticated surveilance strategies C) xkeyscore and all of the other releases is confirmation.

This type of argument does us all a disservice by subtly shaming those who care about state-surveilance of private (and peaceful) citizens who value their privacy and/or who exercise their right to actively participate in progressive movements that challenge the establishment.

dahoramanodoceu··on Bancor Is Flawed
As an experienced trader in FX and us stocks, and as a bit of a budding technologist, how can I best get into speculating Ethereum?

I've tried getting into ethereum, and am super interested in programming numerous smart contracts, but have showed up late to the party, so all the docs are in varying levels of accuracy (out of date) and it seems like i have to download a million and a half heavy applications just to participate. Red flag. It seems weird that company with so much interest and participation doesn't have proper documentation.

Is there a way to go short; are there options markets; is it currently possible to bet against the price of a smart-contract like Bancor?
