d3ntb3ev1l··on Coinbase from YC to DPO
Also ignoring most cities now are banning or highly regulating these illegal hotels in residential neighborhoods

Coinbase seems less threatened by regulations

d3ntb3ev1l··on Leaked phone number of Mark Zuckerberg reveals he is on Signal
Tell that to the Hawaiians who are suing
d3ntb3ev1l··on Google’s copying of the Java SE API was fair use [pdf]
Can I copy one line from the Beatles catalog “she loves you yeah yeah”. I represents such a small % of their overall lyrics.
d3ntb3ev1l··on Google’s copying of the Java SE API was fair use [pdf]
So if Java had just bloated their code and those apis code footprint represented a larger % of the overall they’d be guilty? Or if Java trimmed a bunch of non essential packages into modules/extensions Google would be guilty

It seems to me the judge is saying, “the house was full of 10 tons of jewelry but the robbers only took 10 pounds so that isn’t really stealing lol “

d3ntb3ev1l··on Google is accelerating reopening of offices and putting limits on remote work
Google HR told me “data showed remote doesn’t work” I asked for the data and never got it.

I don’t work their anymore

d3ntb3ev1l··on Silicon Valley firms in no hurry to open up offices despite easing of virus ban
Given adequate and safe public transportation I’d love going into an office.

Yet imho that exists nowhere in the US. Companies might as well provide a car to commute in

d3ntb3ev1l··on Four times I felt discriminated against for being a female developer
I’m over 50 and feel discriminated as a developer every day.
d3ntb3ev1l··on Giving Ada a Chance
Ada was also taught at my Comp Sci program back in 1987
d3ntb3ev1l··on Facebook is pushing back on Apple’s new iPhone privacy rules
Have their been any data studies to show exactly how much data is “enough” to adequately target ads?

There appears to be a point of diminished returns.

Overall though, it’s amazing Facebook/Google have made “targeted ads” a thing.

d3ntb3ev1l··on Changes to sharing and viewing news on Facebook in Australia
I agree with you but I am still scared of racism.
d3ntb3ev1l··on How Akka Cluster Works: Actors Living in a Cluster
Wait, what, are you saying Akka Clusters “works”
d3ntb3ev1l··on State bill would let you sue social media giants for political censorship
Disingenuous to say only currently banning “one political party”. What is happening is one of them just happens to be breaking the rules.
d3ntb3ev1l··on The Airbnbs
Where does it end? Renting my house because Airbnb says it’s “enabling owners.” At whose expense? The neighbors who know live near a hotel of daily guests, partying when it wasn’t zoned for it.

Why? Because Silicon Valley says it’s cool?

What’s next, an owner opening a hair salon, not needing a permit or zoning “because rights and freedom”

Airbnb destroys neighborhoods , is a direct cause in many areas of decreased available long term housing.

In certain areas maybe. Overall it’s enabled more terrible situations than it helps.

It only drives greed and profit at the expense of community.

The data is all there for anyone to objectively analyze , but now they all counting their profit

d3ntb3ev1l··on What was it like to be a software engineer at NeXT?
Java was not made from “his” ideas. Not by a long shot

d3ntb3ev1l··on Ask HN: As a person, what can I do to improve a city?

d3ntb3ev1l··on The world needs nuclear power and we shouldn’t be afraid of it
No one is afraid of nuclear power. They are afraid of the radiation

d3ntb3ev1l··on Tuesday was my last day as CEO of CircleUp
So many fine people on both sides of the Silicon Valley soap opera
d3ntb3ev1l··on Twitter and Facebook's action over Joe Biden article reignites bias claims
Free lie amplifiers cause more harm than responsibly “vetting” and filtering blatant lies.
d3ntb3ev1l··on Dropbox Converts to Permanent WFH
Trello has been remote first from start and doing just fine.
d3ntb3ev1l··on Google and Oracle's decade-long copyright battle reaches Supreme Court
Folks realize some of the people at Google were actually previously on the Java team.
d3ntb3ev1l··on The Social Dilemma
If an ex heroin dealer (who made lots of money selling the drug) came forward and talked about the problem and how to stop it, it’s more powerful given his previous association.

We shouldn’t discount the people speaking out because they created it.

We should criticize them if all they do this time is continue to make money on the problem versus resolving it with the same greed and passion they put into creating it

d3ntb3ev1l··on Sarcophagi buried for 2,500 years unearthed in Saqqara
What could go wrong opening them in 2020
d3ntb3ev1l··on Ex-Google boss Eric Schmidt: US 'dropped the ball' on innovation
I remember when Eric was CEO of Novell. When he left Sun someone high up sent an email with the slight joke “short Novell” in it.

Eric is smart, no doubt but Google’s success was him getting out of the way and letting him just talk to stroke his own ego

Now he has the government backing him to stroke his massive ego

Does anyone really think Eric does anything for “America’a” interest or your interest?

d3ntb3ev1l··on Tech firms face growing resentment of parent employees during Covid-19
And this is a fact you have established from what data?
d3ntb3ev1l··on Police-issued "courtesy cards" help friends and family out of minor infractions
If Cops accept cards through an organized and supported system, seems to indicate they would take bribes just as easily.
d3ntb3ev1l··on Why Simon Sinek is fundamentally wrong about starting with “why”
Who informs nothing. Lots of companies knew who they were marketing to but went to shit because they didn’t know why.
d3ntb3ev1l··on Jacques Cousteau’s grandson wants to build the ISS of the sea
Just because you only know his last name, but not Fabien’s actual research work, background and experience doesn’t preclude that he is highly qualified to run and make use of this project. Regardless of his last name.

to you he is just “this Fabien guy” because you are uninformed of his qualifications. But blame the journalist, or blame the article for not providing that context, or blame Fabien for his last name, or maybe do a little googling before discounting the person and blame yourself
