George Bush Sr. made a deal with Democrats to raise taxes and cut spending. Ever since then the Republican strategy has been to oppose pretty much anything a Democratic President proposes. The ACA was a Republican healthcare idea and they didn’t support it because a Democrat proposed it.

There are only two realistic possibilities. Get a Republican to propose some sort of national healthcare or have Democrats fully embrace socialized medicine and not give a shit what Republicans say or think. If it gets implemented quickly enough then getting rid of it will be very difficult to do. People won’t give up free at the point of usage healthcare once they try it out.

So it is moral to provide a baseline because… and voluntary exchange. Others can’t coerce you and vice versa.

Exactly. It’s why minimum wages are stupid. If a person is in dire straights let them be able to take a job for $1 an hour. Employment is the end that justifies the means. Notions like dignity, fairness, exploitation don’t belong in a capitalist society that is doing its best to become Ferenginar.

This why I oppose national healthcare. I don’t want to pay for other people to get healthcare. I don’t want people to get higher wages for jobs in retail or restaurants because I don’t want to pay more. I’m a greedy bastard.

Over the last 30 years far more Palestinian children have been killed by Israelis than vice versa. Far more innocents have been killed by the IDF than by Hamas or the PLO. The Palestinians have no air force, no navy, no tanks, and no helicopters. The power differential between the two sides overwhelmingly favors Israel. Failing to mention these facts when discussing the issue is disingenuous.
