czechdeveloper··on I'm not burned out, I'm pissed off
There is nothing wrong with doing stuff just for fun.

There is nothing wrong with being focused on just few issues.

But I have doubts when you claim some knowledge without being able to use it practically, which is what I see here.

If I'd say I'm jack of all trades, as I'm interrsted in software - but i hire a guy to make all the code for me because I don't know how - and that I'm very interested in knives - but my wife sharpens our knives as I don't know how - I have doubts about your actual knowledge if those fields.

I could not figure out an argument without sounding too confrontational toward you or OP, so sorry :).

But if your knowledge can't fulfill your need in same field, what is that knowledge for, or is that even actual knowledge?

czechdeveloper··on I'm not burned out, I'm pissed off
This I don't understand.

You are interested in economy and politics, yet you don't know how to file taxes. Is that not connected?

If you understand mechanics, yet can't do maintenance on your car, not even talking about fixing anything.

This level of theoretical knowledge that can't overreach to reality to do basic tasks seems just irrelevant to me. What is it good for apart of talking about it?

czechdeveloper··on The Fall of WeWork
I think issues is that it's artificial cash.

A lot of people expected inflation with newly printed money (central banks poured ridiculous amount new money in economy after 2008), but it never arrived. Because that money never found a way from investment to consumer goods, so for normal people the inflation is pretty standard.

Except of prices of housing, which is also an investment asset.

Inflation in investment assets is quite larger and we consider it "economic growth".

czechdeveloper··on Life Is a Ponzi Scheme (2009)
Global warming is totally real problem.

And you sketching some wars on a timeline and prediction time and scope of another just based on that is totally not a real problem.

czechdeveloper··on Life Is a Ponzi Scheme (2009)
You get it. All suggestions here are same way of thinking that got us into this situation.
czechdeveloper··on Life Is a Ponzi Scheme (2009)
Just curious, why will you not participate? Why leave it on younger generation?
czechdeveloper··on Whales Keep Carbon out of the Atmosphere (2017)
That is big IF. I can say opposite: what if they do not care anymore as they already saw the place. It has same validity.
czechdeveloper··on Whales Keep Carbon out of the Atmosphere (2017)
There are. But downsides are greater as they lead to destruction of very places they visit for their beauty.
czechdeveloper··on World's Best-Run Pension Funds Say It's Time to Start Worrying
In such scenario you can't count on traditional investments either.
czechdeveloper··on Houses are assets, not goods
It's mostly the land as I understand that.
czechdeveloper··on Scientists Have Been Underestimating the Pace of Climate Change
It's just place where you can be pessimistic by default. It's forgotten everywhere else it seems.
czechdeveloper··on What Does a Coder Do If They Can't Type?
It's directly on home page:

    Multiple languages.
Use the same commands across multiple languages: Python, JavaScript, Java, and more on the way.
czechdeveloper··on Living Near Trees, Not Just Green Space, Improves Wellbeing
I moved to place with trees. Paid extra for that. After a year in, the forest died due to drought (and bugs). Now I'm looking at forest being cut down and removed. It's quite miserable feeling.
czechdeveloper··on GitHub confirms it has blocked developers in Iran, Syria and Crimea
It's not Microsoft choice. They have to listen to US laws.
czechdeveloper··on The Cost of JavaScript in 2019
It make sense if you think about it, but I would really not figure it out myself, that is true.
czechdeveloper··on US military is a bigger polluter than as many as 140 countries
Well, we face multitude of issues. For example loss of biodiversity is likely as important as global warming.
czechdeveloper··on Slack Is Going Public at a $16B Valuation
As remote developer, I must disagree.

There has always been distractions in office. Colleague would just walk over to you.

Now you get message. You can choose what you check and when. And reaction that is not immediate is usually fine. At least at my company.

And best of all, I don't have to be in same office to be able to communicate. I'm not even in same country, yet we can work realtime with team.

czechdeveloper··on Carnival Cruises emits ten times more sulphur oxide than all of Europe’s cars
If we really meant it with climate policies, cruise ships and private jets would be banned immediately.
czechdeveloper··on Mazda is purging touchscreens from its vehicles
All "how to use tablet as development machines" I saw were just "how to connect keyboard to tablet and connect to remote computer".
czechdeveloper··on China Prepares to Drop Microsoft Windows, Blames U.S. Hacking Threat
My only hope is that I will not end up in the second one.
czechdeveloper··on Open-Source `Great Satan’ No More, Microsoft Wins over Skeptics
Well, the third part never came, so it's just "Embrace, extend". I'm ok with that.
czechdeveloper··on In Defense of Fahrenheit
0 is also very important for driving, camping etc. Water freezing is just so important point.
czechdeveloper··on Firefox 67.0 Released
Interestingly this works only if you have background color explicitly set. Otherwise you still get light background.
czechdeveloper··on A critical step to reduce climate change
Removing CO2 is not geoengineering in my book. That is reversing what we did and I'm all for that.

Geoengineering is for example emitting particles to atmosphere to lower amount of sunlight hitting earth. This will cause sky to change color, lower yield of crops and possibly other unknown consequences. That I would rather live without. That is last resort think, not first think to do.

We don't even have carbon tax, plane fuel is not taxed etc. and we already talk about geoengineering. This is crazy.

czechdeveloper··on A critical step to reduce climate change
I really hope not. We don't even know all consequences of geo-engineering. Well, we know it will lower yield of crops on which we depend to feed ourselves.

Future is green or none at all.

czechdeveloper··on Is Conference Room Air Making Us Dumber?
I have one too and I can get over 1 000ppm by myself in quite big room while my room also has automatic air recuperation.

I can't imagine how it is in any "van dweller" or "tiny house" place.

If you drive motorcycle, you can get 10 000ppm in your helmet, that is close to being out of mind.

czechdeveloper··on Binance exchange hackers steal bitcoins worth $41m
They were even thinking about requesting blockchain rollback (that possibly means making fork and paying to miners to follow that fork instead). If that would pass, that would really doom bitcoin as is.
czechdeveloper··on What No One Is Reporting About Caster Semenya: She Has XY Chromosomes
For me it's difficult to comprehend this, as my native language just does not have 2 words for it.
czechdeveloper··on Microplastics Are Blowing in the Wind
Not having any seems more reasonable every day.
