cwmoore··on Can AI design circuit boards yet?
Not OP but “actual exponential complexity” should work, what is really your issue with that comment?

cwmoore··on Humanity has the debate about AI consciousness backwards
Usually when I encounter "money never works" it's because (a) it has never been tried and (b) because of simple greed and envy. Reproductive collapse seems like a pet peeve of yours, and while I can offer about 8 billion examples to the contrary, it wasn't the discussion I thought I was participating in.

No, he mentioned it. Here’s a link:

cwmoore··on And then the men with guns tell you to do it anyway
How does that make a difference?
cwmoore··on And then the men with guns tell you to do it anyway
The question was "unconditional help", and one answer is "yes, if you can afford to, and want to".
cwmoore··on And then the men with guns tell you to do it anyway
So an enterprising drug-dealer can buy the house for a little baggie, hire the junkie to shovel the sidewalk, and rent it out, now everyone is employed, housed, and the free market actually absorbed the cost. The dealer will pay property taxes, to keep eyes off of the other business, the junkie will be safe and motivated to contribute, what else? Oh, social services jobs don't get to practice measured goodness to Skinner Box Volunteers, and it might hurt the cause to see photographs of the yard.

It is run by self-motivated humans and it often doesn't work.
cwmoore··on And then the men with guns tell you to do it anyway
Sounds like they trust the game’s anonymity and privacy policies.
cwmoore··on And then the men with guns tell you to do it anyway
Or, live as a solitary hermit and the average person you encounter is almost exactly like you. But how do you know you can trust them after they’ve isolated you from society?
cwmoore··on And then the men with guns tell you to do it anyway
Actually, no, you have to commit a crime to get in. The ride in handcuffs is free-as-in-compulsory.
cwmoore··on And then the men with guns tell you to do it anyway
Programs are watched carefully for embezzlement, not really accountable for positive outcomes.
cwmoore··on And then the men with guns tell you to do it anyway
And then there are people who aren't families, without the knack for conveying a moving story, or exceptionally good in every way but unfair circumstances.

Many of these people, and not just the really, really bad nuisance ones people use as excuses to superiority, are literally slaves, performing the scarecrow work of deterrence as living examples, for "society", for no pay.

I think this is an injustice, subverted by its own cruelty, and one of the more compelling arguments for UBI.

cwmoore··on And then the men with guns tell you to do it anyway
Or the exact opposite of what you said.

Fair enough, but it is a political topic, and there are different and more confusing slices of the healthcare system exposed to patients than org spending breakdowns. Not sure how many of this thread's comments could hold water if falsification were universally applied.

Stop asking so many questions and buy the aspirin.
cwmoore··on And then the men with guns tell you to do it anyway
I don't understand your question or your comments. I have not considered the relevance of execution to this discussion, but I do not see fines and imprisonment as the same categories of punishment/correction at all.
cwmoore··on And then the men with guns tell you to do it anyway
I said it is - I'm not saying it should be.
cwmoore··on And then the men with guns tell you to do it anyway
No, not really. I’m just questioning the axiomatic statement.

Nice comment, and true enough, but $37 aspirin and similar is a criminal fraud, and so are the laws not treating it for the coercive robbery it is.

Close to the same percent that doesn’t have employer coverage, they’re saying, those too old or ill to work fulltime.

I say convert SSA to UBI, set a floor, and let the price of things find a new level with more people in the marketplace:

“We have numbers” is always refreshing, especially in a shell game. Cost of all licensed medical practitioners? Or overweighting incomes of outlier CEO physicians? 25% is a steep tax on health in any case.
