crorella··on Bizarre Earthquake Lights Finally Explained
Having experienced the 6th largest earthquake ever recorded by a seismograph [1] I can assure you the lights I saw during that night were a lot brighter and higher in the sky, so power lines and transformers are ruled out. I was living fairly close to the epicenter (about 18 miles from the picture you can see in the wikipedia) and the lights were up for several minutes after the electricity went out.

crorella··on Recursion with SQL
Teradata has the WITH RECURSIVE statement which is pretty easy to use.
crorella··on Help the Gnome Foundation Defend the Gnome Trademark Against Groupon
This is really disappointing and could be use to harass a company, what stops a malicious group of people do a "copyright ddos" by just forcing a company to pay 80k each time they need to defend it's trademarks?
crorella··on Amazon Echo
It would be asome if you were able to connect this to sensors and actuators around your home :D
crorella··on Sacrificial Architecture
The sentence that I found the most interesting is this one: "The right architecture to support 1996-ebay isn't going to be the right architecture for 2006-ebay. The 1996 one won't handle 2006's load but the 2006 version is too complex to build, maintain, and evolve for the needs of 1996." This is something to keep in mind when you are bashing the old codebase and want to rewrite it desperately.
crorella··on Crate.io – Big Data SQL in real time
Just a minor detail, the video show the load of the table with 190K rows, but then the distinct shows 194K results.. that is weird, because the table was empty before the load. :P
crorella··on Ask HN: When is it time to give up on becoming a developer?

crorella··on The new Photosynth
I liked the idea, I think it's a different (not better nor worse) to explore imagery. I even found it's more intimate in some ways... like discovering some details of the images.

crorella··on Spotify: Business Through Obscurity
That is what I though. I stopped using the desktop version after suffering for highly CPU usage from the client... Also I don't want 10GB on my HD :P

crorella··on Why we dropped our free plan
Read Lean Analytics, there is a good example of a company offering the exact same service, look at what they did.

crorella··on Celebrating 10 years of Kettle coding
I love Kettle and I think Matt has done a really good job over this years. Kettle (or PDI) is now a widely used ETL tool with advanced Big Data functionalities and strong community behind it.
