cramjabsyn··on What did Unix fans learn from the end of Unix workstations?
I learned that decommissioned sun pizzaboxes with huge displays could be had for free, and that they ran linux.
cramjabsyn··on You can hook your MIDI keyboard up to a website with Firefox 108
And CCs to handle faders and knobs. And PC to handle patch recall. And separate rx/tx busses. And ability to carry clock. And support for 16 simultaneous channels. Yeah it’s actually really well thought out I’d say

Novation has a pretty impressive web midi implementation used for managing the configuration on some of their controllers and synths. nice to see that becoming a thing outside chrome
cramjabsyn··on Tesla FSD data is getting worse, according to beta tester self-reports
Rushing half finished cars out the door, and over promising on capabilities/updates is such a flawed model. I am amazed by how many people bought in, and will be really interested to see how many people replace with another Tesla as legacy brands bring EVs to market.
cramjabsyn··on A software change allowed FTX to use client money
I’m sorry, what?
cramjabsyn··on As Carvana crashes, used car dealers, not buyers, stand to win big
It is objectively worse because with carvana you cannot physically walk in and talk to the same salesperson.

They send you into a revolving door of phone associates.

Like comcast, but for cars

cramjabsyn··on As Carvana crashes, used car dealers, not buyers, stand to win big
Or trading in a car on good faith that they will pay off the trade in.

But months pass and they don’t pay it off..

Then, after escalating, they pull a fresh payoff amount directly from your bank and pay that.

Leaving the buyer with either:

a) late payment marks on their credit from the old loan not being kept current with monthly payments, or

b) several months of lost monthly payments towards the loan for a vehicle that is no longer in the buyers possession

cramjabsyn··on The fact that Twitter is running well with headcount down significantly matters
So the solution is to axe a large portion of the staff, burn established advertisers and alienate a large portion of the user base? Seems more like a playbook to torpedo the company.
cramjabsyn··on The fact that Twitter is running well with headcount down significantly matters
People act like musk is the genius who invented layoffs or being a cut throat executive. Yeah, firing people saves money. Yeah a ship can still run with a skeleton crew.

However, personally I think the story of a platform supporting thousands of families is more interesting than a platform serving to enrich a small (and openly toxic) few

cramjabsyn··on As Carvana crashes, used car dealers, not buyers, stand to win big
Good riddance. Their shady, shady, practices took full advantage of the trust customers need to have in a full service used car dealer. The execs should face legal penalties
cramjabsyn··on You're Being Lied to About Electric Cars
Maybe…. But full self driving is just one more quarter away, I promise.
cramjabsyn··on Facebook tracking is illegal in Europe
On the contrary, it’s actually quite refreshing to see law that patches a loophole which was being exploited by a data mining company to enrich itself.
cramjabsyn··on Tell HN: IPv6-only still pretty much unusable
> It’s just that transition is expensive

It’s impossible to finish a transition when the old version has no end of life in sight.

cramjabsyn··on Tell HN: IPv6-only still pretty much unusable
I feel the same way.

Clearly ipv6 is very flawed and by now the community should consider it a failure and work on a viable replacement.

We need an internet protocol that is backwards compatible with ipv4 and does not require deploying and maintaining entirely parallel networks, interfaces, firewalls, routing, etc.

If ipv6 actually was viable, the internet would have cut over. Instead we’re on a path to support ipv4 and ipv6 in parallel essentially forever.

cramjabsyn··on The impotence of being clever
I find it odd how quickly some humans discount genetics/evolution and assume they are somehow exempt from the natural patterns that affect all living beings.
cramjabsyn··on Lastpass Security Incident
Hacking is why we’re here. It’s criminal and exploitative behavior that sucks.
cramjabsyn··on Spotify CEO renews attack on Apple after Musk's salvo
“Over and over again @Apple gives itself every advantage while at the same time stifling innovation and hurting consumers.”

That’s funny Ek. Seems like Spotify gives itself every advantage while at the same time stifling innovation and hurting musicians.

cramjabsyn··on PayPal restores to its TOS $2,500 charge for any post they don't like
There's square, stripe and others that aren't really any harder to integrate than paypal. The sign up process is slightly longer though
cramjabsyn··on A Vegan Sued Burger King over Its ‘Impossible Whopper’
Wouldn’t bother me. Dogs, franks, sausages, burgers, steaks, whatever. If they scrape clean the cook surface and make an effort to keep things separated I’m happy.
