cosmicgadget··on Chip stocks slide in US and Asia as AI jitters rattle investors
> move forward a little smarter

Based on everything I've seen, this is an all-out sprint to whatever the goalpost is - superintelligence, AGI, singularity. Whoever is first will win, everyone else will lose.

I don't know if it's true or not, but it seems to explain the current direction of tech and leads me to believe no CEO is going to allow his company to slow down.

cosmicgadget··on EPA says [dedicated] power for data centers can sidestep pollution laws
Ask a chatbot maybe?
cosmicgadget··on EPA says [dedicated] power for data centers can sidestep pollution laws
What a faithful representation of my statment.
cosmicgadget··on Substack writers, you need a website
This is why it'd be great if bloggers more frequently provided topical, off-site recommendations in post footers. It's functionally like Substack's internal links but connects the open web.
cosmicgadget··on Substack writers, you need a website
Right which is why I'd only suggest the browser as an alternative. Imho a browser is something I open when I proactively am seeking information/entertainment and thereby fits blog reading better than email which is more like an interrupt.
cosmicgadget··on EPA says [dedicated] power for data centers can sidestep pollution laws
Sounds like rural America is continuing to get exactly what they voted for - regulatory capture and business growth.
cosmicgadget··on Substack writers, you need a website
And HN is kind of like the HOA of websites, giving you notices about color choice, pets, and under construction gifs.
cosmicgadget··on Substack writers, you need a website
It's sort of disgusting that inbox clutter from a publishing service is the dominant delivery paradigm as opposed to browsers natively checking bookmarked RSS feeds.
cosmicgadget··on Substack writers, you need a website
I miss the days when I'd regularly get forwards from friends about stuff they found on the internet.
cosmicgadget··on Substack writers, you need a website
I mean, can't you accomplish the same thing with "enter your email/social handle to be notified when I post something"?
cosmicgadget··on Substack writers, you need a website
There are guides but it amounts to "use popular services to link to your website". Post snippets on the bird apps, social media hellscapes, and aggregators like this one. Duplicate your content on the blogging services. Have an RSS feed and submit it to discovery engines and web directories/rings. And send me a link so I can index you.

Stickers are neat too.

cosmicgadget··on US DOT deleting bike lane references
Seems awfully newsworthy. And using direct quotes makes it difficult to brush aside as "librul media bias" or whatever.
cosmicgadget··on US DOT deleting bike lane references
They understand it, they're just in the middle of a culture war.
cosmicgadget··on White House used keywords to kill billions worth of California research grants
Was another piece of advice that personal finance is absolutely nothing like running a business or country?

And of course your straw man is "this is just DOGE trying to save tax dollars", completely ignoring the premise of the article and all other readily-available information.

cosmicgadget··on ICE to Pay Thomson Reuters $125M to Find Voter Fraud
Zinger? I was just rephrasing the parent comment, highlighting how this has nothing to do with the reason DROP exists.

They are welcome to continue voting however they like, I'm not really looking to change any minds.

cosmicgadget··on Show HN: Explore 6048 YC companies as an interactive galaxy
Alternatively, it is a great way to explore cluster data but could be improved (e.g. there is no "do a barrel roll" button).
cosmicgadget··on Show HN: Explore 6048 YC companies as an interactive galaxy
Love the visualzation, the responsiveness, and the subtle labels and graph edges. I'd be interested to see any writeups/code on the creation of this, this closely aligns with my vision for traversing my blog database.
cosmicgadget··on Show HN: Explore 6048 YC companies as an interactive galaxy
Oh no, it's the Oracle assimilation cube!
cosmicgadget··on ICE to Pay Thomson Reuters $125M to Find Voter Fraud
ICE shipping out to Hormuz when.
cosmicgadget··on ICE to Pay Thomson Reuters $125M to Find Voter Fraud
California passes a law to protect consumers from data brokers amidst the destruction of the CFPB.

Californians individually make use of these protections.

Magas: "That just confirms voter fraud!"

At this point it is simply best to ignore what they are saying or would say.

cosmicgadget··on Flock Credibility Lost as It Repeatedly Lies to City Councils, Police, & Public
Between Epstein, Panama Papers, and Madison Cawthorne Story Time, I don't think any of these things will end careers as long as voters can be convinced their team is the winning one. This is the post-fact era.
cosmicgadget··on ICE to Pay Thomson Reuters $125M to Find Voter Fraud
And Cyber Symposium. Oh man, those were the days, when "ELECTION INTERFERENCE!!!" claims were met with laughter instead of Joe Rogan saying "wild".
cosmicgadget··on ICE to Pay Thomson Reuters $125M to Find Voter Fraud
You conclusion is true but how you get there is deeply flawed.

With the recent immunity ruling and the impossibility of the Senate upholding impeachment, yes, the president can basically try anything he wants.

cosmicgadget··on Tell HN: Old Reddit Now Requires Login
That sounds like just the kind of risky behavior that was a huge threat to Reddit! Glad they did something about checks notes people browsing from the open web.
cosmicgadget··on Tell HN: Old Reddit Now Requires Login
Getting the same. I stuck around as a lurker cause some subs were still good. I'm definitely not creating an account or subjecting myself to new reddit.

I wonder if this was about killing old.reddit in two steps, forcing people to create accounts, or LLM scrapers.

Update: looks like they want LLMs to have to buy their data: https://web.archive.org/web/20260716201346/https://old.reddi...

cosmicgadget··on We want Texans to know their rights
Doesn't feel misleading at all, "searched data from" is pretty much your "I Googled it" without branding.

The inclusion of 83,000 seems more intended to quantify the scope of the surveillance accessible to these sheriffs.

cosmicgadget··on Trump Media to sell instant access to 'market-moving' social posts
I'm not sure what the way out here is. Even with both houses (which won't happen) the Supreme Court has declared all independent agencies created by Congress unconstitutional. Funding approved by Congress can basically be line-item vetoed by the executive. And of course the bar for impeachment is simply too high.

Split houses means that anything bad can be blamed on the blue house.

Honestly, if you think the GOP isn't currently serving the country's interests you kinda have to hope they aren't given a scapegoat this fall.

cosmicgadget··on Trump Media to sell instant access to 'market-moving' social posts
I think we're realizing that the accountability was never there, prior presidents simply had a sense of dignity.

Ultimately only congress and scotus can intervene. But America decided to vote in the January 6 guy and a congress that wouldn't serve as a check on his power.

cosmicgadget··on Trump Media to sell instant access to 'market-moving' social posts
This is already happening, see all of the tariff and Iran tweets. It's just that now there's another layer of insiders.
cosmicgadget··on Trump Media to sell instant access to 'market-moving' social posts
Hopefully when Russia is sorted it will be a chance to remember how the Biden administration helped derail "three days to Kyiv" while absolutely embarrassing the Kremlin.

That and letting JPow fix inflation without constantly screeching about needing to lower interest rates.
