cosarara97··on An Analysis of the Catalonian Referendum
I guess the people of Catalonia could vote on it and everybody would see which side has the most people in favour. They could do a referendum, or something.
cosarara97··on .Cat Domain a Casualty in Catalonian Independence Crackdown
A newspaper that's biased against independence doesn't sound like a very good source. Unless you are fine with the clear bias, of course.
cosarara97··on Other ways to read Hacker News
There is no proper API, IIRC. All those clients scrape the website.
cosarara97··on DuckDuckGo vs Google
> Also, I have Bing on my phone's Chrome to avoid AMP, and it's actually quite good

You can also use google on Firefox for Android. No AMP there.

cosarara97··on WinBtrfs – A Windows driver for the next-generation Linux filesystem Btrfs
You can't fix exfat errors on linux (fsck just reports the errors).
cosarara97··on Why I haven't jumped ship from Common Lisp to Racket just yet
It does, it's embedded as in "use it inside another program".
cosarara97··on Android Oreo
There are no cheap windows 95 computers where everything works on the market. Android 4.4 does do everything people need (like running whatsapp), and the devices are out there to buy.

Security vulnerabilities? Nobody was ever affected by those (at least in the social circles of the people buying the devices), so why should they care?

cosarara97··on JavaScript for People Who Hate JavaScript
And PHP is usually regarded as even more flawed than Javascript.
cosarara97··on Gnome is still the best Linux desktop environment
3 (display switching) and 5 (dynamic workspaces) are the only actual arguments compared to any other DE, and the second is subjective. Pretty weak article.
cosarara97··on Regarding Marcus Hutchins aka MalwareTech
40 years in prison is way out of proportion, guilty or not. Are there black hats in the US currently serving this kind of sentences?
cosarara97··on Bitcoin Cash Soars to $700, Coinbase Customers Threaten to Sue
That's wrong. If I hold 1 BTC, I'll have 1 BTC and 1 BCH after the fork. If I sell for the equivalent of 1 BTC in USD (say, $2500), I'll have $2500 after the fork, instead of $2500+$700 (price of 1 BTC + price of 1 BCH)
cosarara97··on Show HN: A notebook-style Common Lisp environment
Lisp is not used as a purely functional language. It has the tools to write functional programs, but most lisp code is procedural.
cosarara97··on How to use BeyondCorp to ditch VPN, improve security and go to the cloud
Oh well, no way to delete my comment now.
cosarara97··on How to use BeyondCorp to ditch VPN, improve security and go to the cloud
So google bought the .google TLD!
cosarara97··on Advantages of Using R Notebooks for Data Analysis Instead of Jupyter Notebooks
Sage deserves a mention: http://www.sagemath.org/
cosarara97··on MoonScript, a programmer friendly language that compiles to Lua
You can use 'local' to have sane scoping (shadowing) in moonscript though:

    -- will print:
    -- 15
    -- 0
    -- 15
    -- 10

    y = 0
    goodfun = (x) ->
        local y
        y = 10
        y + x

    badfun = (x) ->
        y = 10
        y + x

    print(goodfun(5))
    print(y)
    print(badfun(5))
    print(y)
cosarara97··on NeoVim 0.2.0 released
The default is usually vi or nano, not full vim. So installing vim or neovim should take about the same effort.
cosarara97··on NeoVim 0.2.0 released
Some distros do have it in the official repos https://github.com/neovim/neovim/wiki/Installing-Neovim
cosarara97··on Let's compile like it's 1992 (2014)
Please add (2014) to the title.
cosarara97··on Linux 4.10 is out
KVMGT sounds really nice.
cosarara97··on Kirby is a file-based CMS
Indeed, it can't even be distributed freely.
cosarara97··on Firefox 57 as the first release where only WebExtensions will be supported
IMO Firefox has just 2 things to beat Chrome: better add-ons (like treestyle tabs) and politics (made by Mozilla instead of an ads company). They are burning the first one.
cosarara97··on Games of Coding – A curated list of games that teach you a programming language
Linux too.
cosarara97··on Android permissions and hypocrisy
I thought these things were only possible with xprivacy. Which Cyanogen versions have this functionality?
cosarara97··on Why are developers switching from Mac OS X to Linux?
You are mixing the WM and the panel/bar. They are usually separate things. Crunchbang used tint2 for the bar and openbox for the WM IIRC.
cosarara97··on Game in-app purchases are warping kids’ understanding of basic economic ideas
Runner game?
cosarara97··on The Crystal Programming Language
Thoughts on the conservative garbage collector? How often is it a problem?
cosarara97··on Linux af_packet.c race condition local root exploit
I doubt android kernels have unprivileged namespaces enabled.
cosarara97··on Pascal GPUs on All Fronts Push Nvidia to New Highs
Better for whom? The nvidia driver doesn't have proper wayland support, can't work with gallium nine, can't be included in the kernel, and has issues with v-sync.
cosarara97··on DeepMind and Blizzard to release StarCraft II as an AI research environment
Even if you add time control, Go is a turn based game. You have your own turn to think, unlike in a RTS game.
