coredev_··on OpenAI – How to delete your account
When did the US poulation stop believing in a better society and world? A bad progression is something that can be fixed. We do not need AI in weapons, we need a law that forces the children of presidents starting war to automatically be conscripted to the front line of said war.
coredev_··on European Tech Alternatives
So there are of course a lot of large EU based IT/tech companies but I guess you already know this.

As for leaders, von der Leyen might not be the best but still lightyears better than the orange pedo in the wh.

coredev_··on France's homegrown open source online office suite
I do not agree, I don't want EU to turn to US. Taxes should be on a level to support the welfare state.
coredev_··on TikTok's 'addictive design' found to be illegal in Europe
Nah man, I'm glad for you that you live in country X where you do Y instead, but at the same time as an European I'm pretty satisfied regulating big shitty companies
coredev_··on France Aiming to Replace Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, etc.
Hasn't this also something to do with the cultural dominance that US have had over the EU? We considered US services more valuable just because they where from US. But that cultural dominance might not be as strong anymore, maybe because of social media/TikTok?
coredev_··on France Aiming to Replace Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, etc.
Is it really though? We have strong labour laws, consumer laws, antitrust laws, personal information laws and so on because the majority of us want it. We understand that this do not maximize growth, and consider that worth it. In fact, the most of us sees the current US administration as a very big joke.
coredev_··on France Aiming to Replace Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, etc.
Yes. A few do, a lot don't.
coredev_··on People who know the formula for WD-40
Is it? Please explain and provide sources. Just because it feels like a lubricant and maybe advertised as a lubricant it might not actually be a lubricant.
coredev_··on Europe wants to end its dangerous reliance on US internet technology
No we do not need to roll back on our humanity. The US population however really need to wake up and start unionize and vote for politicians that are not big orange incompetent babies.
coredev_··on Europe wants to end its dangerous reliance on US internet technology
This is just ignorance. And I would say that it is likely that Microsoft ditches Windows for Linux within 20 years.
coredev_··on Europe wants to end its dangerous reliance on US internet technology
We in EU like our regulations protecting people and data. That is not what have stopped us from creating Microsoft2.0.
coredev_··on Europe wants to end its dangerous reliance on US internet technology
I guess they want to be just as good as the US. Whistle blowers showed that NSA has access to most US tech/data companies (Google, Apple, MS, Dropbox).
coredev_··on Europe wants to end its dangerous reliance on US internet technology
Things are moving fast right now.

But one thing you have to understand is that being reliant on US tech and defence industry was seen as something very positive up till now. Heck most EU countries even let US/NSA tap our internet data. We bought US fighters jets mostly not for the specific jets but for being on good terms with the US.

We all knew that US screwed us a bit, like probably practicing industrial espionage against us as well as collecting data on our citizens, but we let that slip for being a part of the US security umbrella.

I would say that is one reason why we did not push for our own word processors and OSes.

The US was also very good at utilizing this relationship, buying up initiatives (remember Skype). Don't know if this was a strategy or not.

I suspect that this is going to change now trough public opinion and regulations. I made the switch from Anthropic to Mistral last week. One great thing with GDPR is that we can not place PII in US services, that have been very good for our own Software industry.

coredev_··on Doubting U.S. resolve, Europe looks to bolster its own nuclear arsenal
In this time, would the population really want to switch to pro-russian policies?

Also comparing with Italy, did Meloni really turn out the way people (including myself) thought?

coredev_··on In Europe, wind and solar overtake fossil fuels
Nuclear that was built a long time ago would probably have lowered the prices in DE right now, if they weren't shut down. I understand that building new ones right now makes little sense.
coredev_··on In Europe, wind and solar overtake fossil fuels
If this is true, it has nothing to do with solar or wind but rather strange decisions in the past in some countries that they (and their neighbors) pay for now (looking at you Germany).
coredev_··on Swedish Alecta has sold off an estimated $8B of US Treasury Bonds
Fair, but a bit slower growth than US is not a downward trajectory. Also there is currency effects involved.

Isn't US injecting a lot of loaned money into the economy in a rate that might not be sustainable long term? Their debt-to-GDP ratio is way higher than EUs?

coredev_··on Swedish Alecta has sold off an estimated $8B of US Treasury Bonds
I'm a bit baffled by this - are you saying that you can't identify a single market in the whole world that is worth to invest in & stable except US?

Also I don't see that EU as a whole is on a downward trajectory, there are a lot of areas that are super strong, one being the defence industry.

US on the other hand - who wants to invest in or trade with them when they treat the rest of the world (including close friends) as shit.

coredev_··on Porsche sold more electrified cars in Europe in 2025 than pure gas-powered cars
From what I've heard, the quality is pretty good. The problem is when something breaks, you can be waiting for (sometimes very expensive) parts for months while not being able to use your car.
coredev_··on Threads edges out X in daily mobile users, new data shows
I care - I care that users are leaving a neo-nazi led platform. Problem might be that the new platform's leader also seems to support the current king, sorry, president.
coredev_··on Threads edges out X in daily mobile users, new data shows
This is likely true, but that is also true for other platforms. Like Threads that OP shared.
coredev_··on Canada's deal with China signals it is serious about shift from US
I don't see EU making a deal with China that lets them sell their slave built cars without tariffs. As I feel it there are a lot of public opinion against buying Chinese cars atm. Some did like 5 years ago but not any more. They are almost as dead as Tesla.

German car makes do have issues, but I'm sure they will work it out.

coredev_··on ‘ELITE’: The Palantir app ICE uses to find neighborhoods to raid
I do not agree at all. The problem is both Palantir AND their customers. You have a choise not to make the tools and you have a chiose not to use the tools.
coredev_··on Government drops plans for mandatory digital ID to work in UK
And I guess people who vote for less government are people who never have dealt with good and efficient government, only government destoyed by people who don't want it to work or lobbying companies.

Where I live e-government is super smooth, like having your taxes filed for you - all you have to do is to sign it with your e-id. E-id is, as I see it, actually saftey for me as a citizen, with delegated security so that the SP only get verification and the info actually needed from the IDP.

Although requiring it for porn is just sick.

coredev_··on Event Sourcing in Go: From Zero to Production
There are a lot of voices against event sourcing in the comments. I'd just want to balance things a bit. For a mature domain (like when you rebuild an existing system), event sourcing can work really well and make so much sense. But yes, dicipline is a must, as well is thinking things through before you implement a new event.

Currently working on a DDDd event sourced system with CQRS and really enjoy it.

coredev_··on Vodafone Germany is changing the open internet, one peering connection at a time
What you are describing sounds mostly like a US-problem, not sure it's a western gov problem in general?

In my city, the municipality owns much of the fibre. The country I live in owns a bank where you can get a mortgage pretty cheap. The good parts of GDPR or CRA are very good and was not disrupted by large corporations?

coredev_··on Beyond introvert vs. extrovert
I am quite the same, we call this "social hangover".
coredev_··on Ask HN: Why is there no performant remote desktop for Mac/Linux?
Works very well on Linux as well.
coredev_··on Use of Google Analytics declared illegal by French data protection authority
I don't belive that to be true at all - EU have a lot of great SaaS/tech companies that emply a lot of really talented people. What EU need more of however is vc money.
coredev_··on Gmail password first character is case insensitive on mobile device
Sadly it can also mean that they save your password in a form that enables them to read it if they need/want it.
