I don't know if any of this info was speculated at that point in time, but it turns out that teacher was at least partially correct!
More people died then than during the Holocaust. More people dying is objectively worse, no matter how you slice it.
Downplaying the severity of despots like Mao by comparing them to democratically elected leaders is incredibly disrespectful to the 45,000,000 people that died as a direct result of catastrophic and coercive policies.
So yeah, if those numbers hold up, the median American household actually comes out ahead after everything is accounted for.
Not a "citation" as much as anecdotal evidence that dispels doubt.
There are actual images of a seal with headphones strapped to its head online!
Before, we were hiring people to translate, and then hiring others to dub the audio. Now, our files are automatically translated and spoken in the voice of the actual speaker, and we just have a small Quality Control team of native speakers quickly verify the results are accurate. We've reduced costs and increased the quality of our translated media.

I would've thought this crowd would've loved lower taxes (more money to build things!), less regulation (less restrictions to build things!), and an unfamiliar friendliness towards the tech industry (more people to build things with!)... I'm really looking forward to building big things in this country in the next few years!
That's about the best any of us can do.
Politicians lie, constantly. All of them. Yes, even the ones you like. Saying Republicans lie and Democrats don't is practically self-propagandizing, convincing oneself of something they'd prefer to be true.
ALL politicians are equal-opportunity liars: if there's an opportunity, they will lie. Sometimes for power, sometimes for money, sometimes because they owe a favor. It's a big club, and we aren't in it.
