It all depends on your goals but I've had similar thoughts and I decided I'm just making opinionated tool for myself that I'm perfectly fine with never making public. Since deciding on such path I think I actually moved closer to something that may be useful to others (but I'm still staying on that path for now).
I don't know any online tool which would provide me which mine does, and frankly the reality nowadays seems that it could take me more to find one if it existed (testing along all those which does not quite fit, which I did), than creating a version custom tailored for myself. It's... interesting times.
So with the top performers I think what's most effective is just stating clearly what the end result you want to be (with maybe some hints for verification of results which is just clarifying the intent more)
I wonder though how do they compute the number (is it average across points measured in the city?). Because within city borders air quality varies wildly. There are some regions where it is actually pretty good.
Of course when you start taking the browser apart you can heavily optimize such process.
At some point you could even get so frustrated with existing APIs..
1 bit per second and we are passing complex information about location in 3d space?
Soon though they won't ask, LTE-M / NB-IoT, both chips and plans are becoming very cheap and unless you are living in a faraday cage it will take control away from the user completely.
Manufacturers which are aiming at being dirt cheap and selling lots of products, have low margins and simply cannot afford too many replacements / warranty repairs. High margin products don't care, they could make you three in that price and still be ok.
It's fascinating to me because that's the single thing which every user goes through. It's the main branch and not some obscure some edge case. How do you do testing that you miss that?
I think you just need to reach for a literature that's a few hundred years older maybe.
We are currently at nonsensical pacing while writing novels.
If you understand you don't want them given a broader context, then it requires no self-dispcipline - you just don't want them.
But if you can't untangle your contradiction, i.e. if self-discipline is required, why would you want to spare any thought on that?
I understand your point about this resisting temptation being a skill, a muscle that you train, that you want to master and that feels empowering. I'm just pointing out that when truly mastered it is 100% effortless - and when it is 100% effortless it means you either can't have it or understand that you don't want to (which is the same as simply not wanting to).
Otherwise it's a cognitive dissonance, a distraction.
