colund··on Ask HN: Which is the first site that autocompletes your browser for each letter?
I like that you have several music links and got curious. Do you write your own music? Do you use Logic Pro X for song-writing and/or mixing? Do you refer electronic or pop/rock? Do you play yourself?
colund··on Black Friday Deals
OK. Book suggestions? I'm considering "Data Science from Scratch: First Principles with Python", "Fluent Python", "Naked Statistics" and "Machine Learning: The Art and Science of Algorithms that Make Sense of Data".

I want to find two great books which can brush up and improve my insights in areas such as Machine Learning, statistics, practical linear algebra, computer vision and DSP.

Any suggestions on how to choose among the book list above?

That was a fantastic link! Many people seem to agree https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=9131706. Thanks.
colund··on A Python tutorial on Bayesian modeling techniques
It's a good initiative!

However, I think the introduction could be improved by briefly describing the "why/what" of Bayesian modeling before you get into the first Hangouts example.

colund··on Defold: Free 2D Game Engine for Cross-Platform Publishing
A tech lead from King wrote a game in Defold and streamed on livecoding.tv: https://www.livecoding.tv/video/small-game-from-scratch-part...
colund··on Interpersonal skills vs. coding chops
I think you shouldn't worry too much. I think regardless of your success in coding vs real life fun you'll end up happy if you follow your heart.

Now when you have time to learn, grab the opportunity. Later in life you might spend most of your time talking to colleagues and clients and taking care of your family.

colund··on Times Pulls Article Blaming Encryption in Paris Terror Attack
If (almost) everyone who is not a terrorist were to give up encryption, then it would be much easier to track down/narrow down the terrorists if they keep using it, no?
colund··on The data science that explains why mass surveillance is bad
The blog basically says: if you can't say be 100% sure whether someone is a terrorist then don't bother since it could violate expectations of justice. I disagree since proper machine learning systems would probably distinguish between someone doing something with a red flag only occasionally and a fanatic who does something based on a strong belief. If someone wanted to check me because their system found something suspicious, I would be happy to help because I would understand it is part of national security work. Customs control today makes random sample checks of the passengers and that's ok. Just watch Border Security, Australia :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEiMHdISTvE
colund··on Ask HN: What can we do against terrorist attacks, like the one in Paris?
In fact animal abuse indicates high risk of psychopathic disorder http://www.examiner.com/article/animal-abuse-indicates-high-...
colund··on Ask HN: What can we do against terrorist attacks, like the one in Paris?
Come on. I am aware that most people have a "psychological dark side" so to speak and that normal people can go to war. My point was that the ruthlessness of the terrorists show a sever lack of empathy of innocent people, and that it seems hard to reason with their obsessive minds. I'm not saying that all terrorists are psychopaths. Probably their manipulative leaders are, though!

I'm sure that you can debate whether they are sane or not.

A psychologist supports the view that terrorists may be psychopaths when she writes "As we turn now to Islamofascist terrorists, we can begin to see that they meet almost all the criteria listed above for psychopathic traits. They even use the same excuses for their unwillingness to accept any responsibility for their own actions." http://drsanity.blogspot.se/2004/10/psychopathology-of-terro...

Another article supports the idea that terrorists are not mentally ill and furthermore discusses whether terrorists may be depressed: http://www.internationalpolicydigest.org/2015/06/29/mental-i...

colund··on Ask HN: What can we do against terrorist attacks, like the one in Paris?
Unfortunately, I think the terrorists suffer from a severe lack of empathy. I'd say the terrorist seem to be psychopaths or schizofrenic. So probably they need to be de-brainwashed via some hard-to-reject facts. The problem with the world is that social structures work in cluster (especially with Internet) and it's hard to reach into social structures with people who have opposite beliefs for a meaningful discussion.
colund··on The Benefits of 'Mob Programming'
Just one of those buzzwords. Programming in crowds may work for some and not for others. A few years ago I was learning about agile and various methodologies. Eventually, I realized that most people writing most about the various trends and ideas did so to mainly to make a buck.

I'd very much prefer a methodology that focuses on knowledge sharing, respectful culture and hard knowledge (and fun).

colund··on State of emergency declared across France after Paris shootings and explosions
Unfortunately tech has made it easier for terrorism to recruit more terrorists, spread hateful messages and send secure encrypted messages across the world to plan attacks like this.

I am so saddened by this situation with a powerful IS which wants to remove our freedom and change the world into an extreme muslim one.

We must remember not to spread hate towards all the peaceful muslims.

colund··on State of emergency declared across France after Paris shootings and explosions
I think terrorism is a far greater contributor to destabilizing countries than anti-terrorism attacks.

colund··on Ask HN: Should I take a job at a bank?
Most jobs which pay well have bad reputation: ads, banks, betting/gambling, freemium games for kids, etc. Do what you like and focus on what makes you happy.

If you care too much about pleasing others you'll end up at a workplace with good reputation but may feel sick for not getting challenged enough, not doing what you love with colleagues you may dislike in a culture you don't fit in.

So my advise is: take a job that suits you, not a job that suits others.

Finally, I've worked for a niche bank with very interesting ambitious people and fun challenges, but I guess that varies greatly between different banks.

colund··on Sweden is Out of Housing for Refugees
Yes I deleted it since I posted the link in a comment above instead.
colund··on Startup Playbook
My impression is that anything related to YCombinator gets huge upvote bias.

colund··on The 100:10:1 method: my approach to open source
Sounds like a good idea for a better unofficial open source search engine. I would be interested in contributing. It could do intelligent search of Github, Bitbucket etc for projects which might be interesting (programming languages, objectives etc).

colund··on Sweden is Out of Housing for Refugees
Because it was hard finding an article which mentions this very 'out of housing' fact which dominates Swedish media currently.
colund··on Google engineer writing Amazon reviews on USB-C cables that don't work
Can someone explain why this topic receives so many upvotes?

Is it just a popular topic getting upvoters who vote for popular items or is there something genuinely interesting about this?

colund··on Write like you talk
Paul Graham says "ummm" a lot. Luckily for us he doesn't write like he talks.

However, as others have said, the important thing is to write naturally and with clarity to get the message across.
