coldblues··on Show HN: Nue – A React/Vue/Vite/Astro Alternative
There's no VSCode extension. How am I supposed to use this??? :)
coldblues··on Whonix – an OS focused on anonymity, privacy and security
The website is fine. Please don't detract from the topic. Whonix is unanimously considered the best Linux distribution in terms of privacy and security. You can also run it in Qubes OS. It's intended to run on Virtualbox for now. One VM is for network access, while the other one is connected to the previous VM for said network access, and it's the one you should use. This is to prevent any de-anonymization attacks.
coldblues··on Caddy is the first and only web server to use HTTPS automatically and by default
The most hassle free way to reverse proxy with Docker. I love it.
coldblues··on Cashu – Free and open-source Chaumian ecash system built for Bitcoin
Does Stellar provide privacy?
coldblues··on AI app Character.ai is catching up to ChatGPT in the US
It's censored. Don't expect anything fancy.
coldblues··on Cold Boot Attack
They have to be very fast to execute this successfully, don't they?
coldblues··on Pnpm – Fast, disk space efficient package manager
I've been using it, but sometimes programs just unexpectedly break. Must be bad coding practices or something, because I can't see how it'd be incompatible.

HN changed the URL for no apparent reason. The appropriate url is: https://cashu.space/

coldblues··on Mullvad on Tailscale: Privately browse the web
I apologize for the language, it's needed for the dramatic effect, but who the hell actually trusts their ISP?
coldblues··on Wayland Isn't Going to Save the Linux Desktop (2022)
I'm one of the people who does not comment on these matters because things "just work" on my machine, but I'd like to say my thoughts as well. Wayland is fine. I still am using i3wm (X11) currently, but Wayland works perfectly fine. There are a lot of things going in the right direction, and I consider Wayland clearly superior. There is absolutely nothing holding me back from switching. Yes, there are minor inconveniences like the lack of a hardware accelerated cursor. Sometimes my compositor crashes on some very old programs that still use GTK2 or some old framework for some reason, but everything outside of that is completely stable and usable. If I don't know something, I ask or browse the wiki, search up alternatives for existing X11 programs, and try to fix stuff myself. I am using the proprietary NVIDIA drivers and it works. I don't have multiple monitors, my resolution is 2560x1440. Things are fine, and they will only get better.

Programming on Windows is still a huge PITA.

coldblues··on ERNIE, China's ChatGPT, cracks under pressure
Open source models are winning.
coldblues··on Ask HN: How do you manage time and goals when you have ADHD
Focusmate and stimulants.
coldblues··on Show HN: I automated half of my typing
You don't need specialized hardware. You can use your regular keyboard. Although specialized hardware would be more ergonomic.
coldblues··on Ask HN: At what age did your cognition start to decline?
When you have ADHD you're oscillating all your life. For some it gets better, for some it gets worse.

If you want to go the extra mile.

coldblues··on FBI, partners dismantle Qakbot infrastructure
> To disrupt the botnet, the FBI redirected Qakbot traffic to Bureau-controlled servers that instructed infected computers to download an uninstaller file. This uninstaller—created to remove the Qakbot malware—untethered infected computers from the botnet and prevented the installation of any additional malware.

So the FBI used unauthorized access to the computers to uninstall the malware? Scary if you think about it. I'm sure they could have used that access any way they wanted.

coldblues··on Show HN: Shimmer – ADHD coaching for adults, now on web
The most effective online service that truly does help is Focusmate. Quite cheap and has a very simple premise.
coldblues··on Focus: A simple editor whose goal is to get out of your way and let you do work
Interesting editor. It's made using Jonathan Blow's language called Jai.

Tsoding has a video on the editor and shows him modifying the code - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhPm8pv6dEs

It has a very "Emacs" feel to it.

coldblues··on Azure ChatGPT: Private and secure ChatGPT for internal enterprise use
Pretty sure Azure has a moderation endpoint enabled by default that makes using the OpenAI API an awful experience.
coldblues··on ASK HN: What’s a small thing you’ve purchased which has made your life better?
A mechanical keyboard.
coldblues··on Memex is already here, it’s just not evenly distributed (2020)
We definitely need open source tools. I personally use Logseq and have a lot of notes. I want to use AI to better search and make connections, using something like ChromaDB. Logseq is mainly for text. What My Mind (mymind.com) does for "smart bookmarking" is really great. No folders, collections at most if you really need it. Making the most use of digital knowledge is something that really needs to be focused on. It can accelerate a lot of things. And we must stop doing this with yet another cloud note-taking app with OpenAI integration with a bunch of (personally) useless collaborative features. I want my own mind that works for me and in my interest.
coldblues··on How to get ChatGPT to stop apologizing?
If you have API access, it's very easy to make it stop apologizing by using what's commonly referred to as a "jailbreak". It's very effective. There's plenty of friendly web frontends as well if you're really yearning for that chat interface. You might not have known how popular AI is for roleplay, and people are trying very hard to make it talk how they want it.
coldblues··on IRC is the only viable chat protocol (2022)
One thing I miss about IRC is the lack of a typing indicator.
coldblues··on Your Team Chat App Probably Isn't Asynchronous
I was waiting for them to mention some open source tools or something.

It took me a few minutes to realize it's marketing.

coldblues··on Emoji drug code decoded by DEA [pdf]
As out of touch as ever. It's not even hard to tell.
coldblues··on Ask HN: Is crypto an unviable, tech-bubble delusion?
Not at all. A lot of people are seeking financial freedom, privacy and stability which Monero has been offering for years. The user experience is simple and privacy is very hard to compromise if you follow basic precautions. The Monero economy is the biggest growing crypto economy you'll see these days. No NFTs and digital only garbage. People are selling, buying and offering services all with Monero using arbitration bonds as a precautionary method of preventing fraud. Just take a look yourself on MoneroMarket and Monerica.
coldblues··on Ask HN: How Should I Learn to Programming with Dyslexia/ADHD
Make your workflow easier to reference material and you will naturally memorize it. Take notes, and do it haphazardly. If you think you'll need something later, tag it and throw it in your notes. Just work on something fun. Try out exciting things. Get medicated. Try body doubling on Focusmate. Work and talk to people that can give you instant feedback and instructions. Make your workflow natural and zen, that includes your desktop and tools. Be curious and edevelopments. Have people to work with and build for. Try harnessing accountability. Get paid for your work. Set short deadlines. Gain a fundamental understanding of how computers work. Journal about you're doing. When you're writing a lengthy forum post asking for help you'll probably figure out the solution before pressing post.
coldblues··on Ask HN: How are you currently using AI (personally or professionally)?
Can you drop a contact? Currently looking into ways to integrate note taking with LLMs and various AI models and I'd be helpful to have someone to chat about it with.
