The fastest GNU/Linux distribution available. Amazing set of patches, optimizations and specific device fixes. The community regularly finds performance regressions in the latest versions of packages and reports them upstream. Remember the NVIDIA explicit sync flickering issues? CachyOS had pushed the fixed driver before anyone else.
Copying files between Windows and WSL is EXTREMELY slow. I really wanted to give Windows a chance but the slowness completely destroyed that chance, along with the lack of hardware acceleration for GUI applications.
Correct. What I meant specifically is that we are unaware of a hard limit to memory, one that we have not found due to factors like our lifespans and cognitive decline, so it should not be something to worry and fuss over due to its current irrelevancy.
There is no reason to forget. Your brain does memory crystallization whether you like it or not, this is not something that is up to you. There is no upper bound to memory as far as we know. https://notes.andymatuschak.org/Spaced_repetition_memory_sys...
You are just making a very silly "Appeal to nature" argument. Your notes, just as your memories, change and morph. For your memories, every time you access them, for your notes, every time you notice something you could improve. Old notes should not bother you, just ignore them if they're not relevant. They take a negligible amount of space on your devices. Personally, every note I've taken serves a purpose, even if their purpose is to just fill a spot so that I may be continually aware I've tackled a particular subject before even if it has not had any relevance for years.
Another thing to add: I had deleted my Roam Research account a long time ago by now, but the media I uploaded on it is still available through the Firebase links.
Indexes trillions of messages and refuses to delete any of them and comply with GDPR. Deleting your account DOES NOT delete your messages, they remain on the platform for an indefinite period of time. The only way to get them to delete your messages is to go through this process (https://discordomicon.github.io/removal/overview/) and you're still likely to go through several support tickets before they comply with your request.
I still feel like Roam Research did it best. Conor was truly a pioneer in the digital note taking field. I still miss the times when all of it was new, it was so exciting and everything felt revolutionary. A lot of Roam users are still using it even though the pricing hasn't changed a bit and neither has the design, but I don't think there's anything better even now. Zettelkasten is severely underrated and misunderstood. Notion and Evernote are disgusting, and PARA is a nonsensical grift. If you need more context regarding that, I recommend reading Conor's Twitter threads and watching interviews and livestreams featuring him.
Focusmate is probably the most popular tool in this category. I don't like the other ones, I am more comfortable in a 1-1 video session rather than multiple people. It works really well when I want to force myself to get something done.
For the most comprehensive and effective solution, medication is still the go-to. Disregard any stigma and misguided fears around it and just get medicated.
It's a shame Telegram doesn't have good privacy & security (relative to Signal, Threema, etc), because it sure does have the best UI/UX and performance out of all the instant messengers, it's a feat of engineering and the biggest reason why they're always topping charts on Google Play and the App Store.
What I've said is from the perspective of a hypothetical moderation team at Twitter that has enacted this change, a change that will most likely be reversed, and was probably a mistake. Additionally, you are breaking the site's guidelines. This comment thread has very little to do with Elon Musk, please direct your rage somewhere else.
Feds can request info from Telegram. Additionally, Telegram has evolved past a simple messenger application. A massive amount of projects, most of them being crypto projects, use Telegram as their primary method of communication and announcements. It is also a very popular messenger in India and parts of Europe. They can block Signal because they can get away with it. If it means banning a bunch of CSAM traders and drug dealers, even if it includes a few users and privacy nerds, they're still winning in terms of easing up their moderation efforts without significant outcry. I believe this block will be lifted, even if Signal users a minority, they are a loud minority. This could have very well been a mistake.
The logical explanation to me is that most of the Signal contacts shared tend to be for drugs or CSAM trading, so they went for the nuclear approach to make moderation easier.
This is what people fundamentally care about. The price of food, a roof under their head, clean water, fresh air and general healthiness. The problems you describe are beyond most people's grasp or reach.
In addition to this, Google is phasing out device integrity check to the Play Integrity API, which will completely kill custom ROMs if apps adopt it, which bank apps most likely will, because their entire security is based on box-checking.
I keep seeing these note-taking tools pop up again and again. I am heavily invested into Logseq already and the new database version is coming out soon. Unless these tools provide import and export utilities to convert your notes between the most popular applications like Logseq and Obsidian, only new users will use them and people with very few notes who can put in the time to move.
Pretty much. The reason why these "leaks" get mentioned so much is because the idea of leaking classified documents on a video game forum is mildly amusing. The game is popular among people enrolled in the military, so it's not implausible that someone would leak documents for laughs and clout.
ADHD is one of the most well-researched disorders, and medication is very effective. Removing the "disorder" label would only lead to people not getting the help they need. In Europe it is already an awful situation with psychiatrists completely ignoring your symptoms or using outdated information for diagnosis such as not being able to sit still or say the days of the week backwards (I shit you not, that was a hard requirement that exempted me from diagnosis).
For some reason, neurotypicals really want to normalize our disorder so that we can be exempted from proper medication and treatment because we're just like them but just a little quirky. It makes me very angry to think that instead of just giving people medication, one of the most effective treatments, they'd rather just employ "accommodations" that nobody is going to care about properly implementing, if they even barely help at all.
I know a few sites, one of them being Spotify, that will lock your account based on "suspicious activity", lie that your password is invalid, and force you to reset your password.
Yubikeys are useless when someone can reset your password or 2FA using personally identifiable information that was just leaked. A lot of us who practice good security will be PWNED through large scale data leaks. Whenever I sign up, I sign up with fake information, and so should you. Most services will not KYC you, so just lie.
