coffeeblack··on Twitter to ban unlabelled parody accounts
He is the lead and could have stopped the ban, obviously. But there is a team of 2000 people doing bands, not just a single person.

You don’t seem to be interested in any actual conversation, but just trolling.

coffeeblack··on Twitter to ban unlabelled parody accounts
Nobody said that. Please don’t do that.

This is an interesting interview about a study done in the UK for the British government, and the reactions the researchers faced.

Not sure if that’s the kind of thing you were asking for?

coffeeblack··on Twitter to ban unlabelled parody accounts
No, the subject is stopping identity theft, impersonation, and slander. Finally Twitter takes it seriously.

Claiming “just a prank, bro” won’t cut it anymore. Good.

coffeeblack··on Twitter to ban unlabelled parody accounts
Yoel Roth. He has been in that position for almost a decade. Why is the funny?
coffeeblack··on We've hit 1M monthly active users
And this is an example of a “bubble“.

I was a (European) lefty my whole life. I lived on all continents for many years. Now back in Europe, I was shocked what the left has become. Full of bigotry and racism. I call it the “new left”.

Gladly, an increasing number of people seem to notice.

And that answers the question why 50% of Twitter staff were let go.
coffeeblack··on Twitter to ban unlabelled parody accounts
The person who does Safety at Twitter has been there for many years and he is pretty far on the “new left” side. Apparently, even he disagrees with you.
coffeeblack··on Twitter to ban unlabelled parody accounts
No, deception and slander is not comedy.
coffeeblack··on Twitter to ban unlabelled parody accounts
Great. I am really liking the new Twitter.
coffeeblack··on We've hit 1M monthly active users
Yes, but that goes into “no real Scotsman” territory.

Left and right are both broad and misused categories. Intelligent political debate shouldn’t use either, really.

coffeeblack··on We've hit 1M monthly active users
Not for me. Weird.
coffeeblack··on We've hit 1M monthly active users
The (new) left is often just as racist/bigoted as the far right, sadly.
coffeeblack··on We've hit 1M monthly active users
Not really.
coffeeblack··on We've hit 1M monthly active users
According to Yoel Roth these were targeted attacks.

Qui Bono? No wonder that WaPo blows this up.

This is positive.

Just like the worst of the right moved to Gettr, now (hopefully) the worst of the left moves to Mastodon.

That will make Twitter a better place for everyone who is interested in actual information and discussion.

I am really liking the way Twitter is going now! Even started using it regularly.

coffeeblack··on Twitter’s Entire A11y Experience Team Let Go
Would be great if everybody could be a little less hysterical.

Maybe the team was just sh*t and expensive. They get rid of them, so they can hire better people at a better price. Which make a lot of sense now that many tech companies have big layoffs.

coffeeblack··on A Big List of Mastodon Resources
Do we really need to spam Mastodon links now?
coffeeblack··on Twitter users jump to Mastodon, but what is it?
Plus, there is no real reason to.

All this hysteria is based on lies that have been spread over the past days.

coffeeblack··on Twitter users jump to Mastodon, but what is it?
> based on a metric of the number of lines of code they wrote

You complain about comment quality and then fall for that level of fake news? Congratulations, you found the problem.

coffeeblack··on Twitter users jump to Mastodon, but what is it?
Surprising that mastodon has only half a million users?! Way below what I expected after so many years.

I am looking forward to new Twitter. So many cool changes coming: Vine coming back. Maybe even Periscope coming back. Birdwatch getting more love. And over all more diversity and openness. Pretty sweet.

coffeeblack··on It looks like I’m moving to Mastodon
The dominant Mastodon instances all seem to align ideologically and ban any node that deviates from that ideology.
coffeeblack··on It looks like I’m moving to Mastodon
Yup, federation can only work if the parts actually connect to one another. Isn’t Trump’s TruthSocial build on some federated protocol too? But if you connected your node to it, everybody else would shun you.
coffeeblack··on It looks like I’m moving to Mastodon
This seems to be the most correct take. Mastodon looks more like a left wing version of Gettr to me.

I wonder of Bezos will try using AWS to fight it now. Like it appears they did to stop Parler.

coffeeblack··on It looks like I’m moving to Mastodon
I liked Mastodon when it first came out. But nowadays it’s seems to be more like a Left wing version of Gettr. Wouldn’t use either.
coffeeblack··on Twitter’s mass layoffs have begun
Awesome. Finally we get more honesty in the public debate again.
coffeeblack··on Over 16k people still use a Pebble smartwatch

coffeeblack··on Dozens of malicious PyPI packages discovered targeting developers
The only place I log into from the VM is Github, protected by 2FA in case any malware gets my password.
coffeeblack··on Dozens of malicious PyPI packages discovered targeting developers
Sounds awesome.

Though I’m not sure of the solution really is / should be increased sandboxing.

The alternative may be a rethinking of the increasingly smaller packages. Maybe it’s better to have few large packages maintained by reputable organisations or personalities?
