coffeeblack··on ChatGPT: How many letters has the string “djsjcnnrjfkalcr”?
It didn’t lie, it got it wrong. That’s a very big difference.
coffeeblack··on ChatGPT: How many letters has the string “djsjcnnrjfkalcr”?
That’s actually a good hypothesis. But apparently the count is sometimes off by more than one.

My take: poor ChatGPT has no fingers, so counting is hard!

coffeeblack··on Rsync.net warrant canary
Good point. It always reminds me of the “crypto nerd” xkcd.

coffeeblack··on Rsync.net warrant canary
Or they could host in a country where “secret warrants” don’t exist.
coffeeblack··on My bad habit of hoarding information
Wouldn’t call it hoarding though. It’s more like leaving mountains of documents and papers on your desk.
coffeeblack··on Shopify tells employees to just say no to meetings
I have colleagues who never do calls, no problem. I prefer by video calls (except when I have to use Teams) over voice or text. But if others don’t, that’s okay too. No need to lie about “being busy”, just that you can explain or understand better over text.
coffeeblack··on Shopify tells employees to just say no to meetings
It’s “rude” to say you’re busy? I too prefer calls (not with Teams though), just because you can look at code together and also have some interaction with remote colleagues. But if the other person has no time, no problem. Why would that be rude?
coffeeblack··on Where does ChatGPT fall on the political compass?
Interesting. That seem surprisingly far removed from physical reality. When a lion attacks a gazelle, is it the gazelle’s lion-hating ideology that makes it run away? Or is there in fact real-world danger? Absent of ideology.
coffeeblack··on Amazon admits no basis for damages in $1M asset seizure by DOJ?
It was a direct quote from Roth’s dissertation, including context. Nobody “had to flee”.

Old Twitter had countless tweets containing images of violence against children. Under Musk it took only days to remove all of that.

And another one about the cave dude. Please see my other reply for that case.

Regarding the Twitter guy: Yoel Roth was a different person. What was bad about how he treated Roth and the Twitter Android guy (I guess that’s who you actually were referring to)?

You mean where he worked with the Thai government on a rescue plan, got attacked verbally by that dude, attacked back, and then the dude couldn’t take it? Yes, I remember that he apologized a day later, even though the other one started it.

Sure I know, because it’s the one thing bad that’s repeated and repeated about him, and he didn’t even start it. And he apologized.

Any example that is actually bad?

coffeeblack··on Where does ChatGPT fall on the political compass?
There is no “true” output. It all depends on the input.

But what seems dangerous is to let ideology influence the output.

Not sure how bad it currently is at Open AI. I’ve never been able to get an obviously ideological answer from ChatGPT.

For example? Who did he “destroy for the lolz”?

Tesla isn’t just about cars, it’s about making renewable energy useful.

Boring had little to do with Musk. It was an idea that seemed promising, and a Tesla manager volunteered to make it reality. Musk just provided some initial finding. It is completely unrelated to rail.

Not sure why you feel Twitter to be a “debacle”? I like diversity of though and open discourse. Also the scientific method is a good thing to save.

Lived in Africa and all other continents with poverty for 20+ years.

Gates is buying a good name. He’s not really doing any good imo. Hop on a plane and look at what the foundation is actually doing in places where they are doing it. I have never seen anything useful. But it “sounds” really awesome to people back in the West.

Not sure about your hate on Musk though. Fighting climate change, preserving the only life in the universe that we know of, bringing connectivity to the most vulnerable and disadvantaged globally, among many other good things. Not sure what’s bad about that.

coffeeblack··on Pomsky – A portable, modern regular expression language
On first glance, I didn’t see anything better, tbh.
coffeeblack··on Where does ChatGPT fall on the political compass?
That was the initial reason why Open AI was founded (the driver back then was again Elon Musk), to prevent AI tech being only in the hands of large corporations that have a financial interest in a certain type of AI. Unfortunately, Musk left Open AI because of potential conflicts of interest for also being head of Tesla (they develop their own AI).

The difference is the cost per unit of answer.

New Twitter will soon get long-form Tweets to address that problem.

Amazing how in 15 years they never managed to fix this UX issue, despite have ten times more people than they actually needed.

coffeeblack··on Wells Fargo Penalties Since 2000: $22B
The nativity here with regards to the CCP is depressing.
coffeeblack··on Stanford's “Elimination of Harmful Language” Initiative
Sadly, it’s about feelings, not facts. That’s how indoctrination works.
coffeeblack··on Stanford's “Elimination of Harmful Language” Initiative
Correct.

And these people will not only be the leaders of tomorrow but also the ones that control worldwide communications from their offices in Silicon Valley. They will shape the entire world.

coffeeblack··on Stanford's “Elimination of Harmful Language” Initiative
Precisely. And in the meantime, it’s great to recognise friend from foe. Are you using all the new “correct” words? Are you a good “party member”?
coffeeblack··on Stanford's “Elimination of Harmful Language” Initiative
Language policing is a great tool to control society. There is always some “flaw” in your language. So you have always something for people to “struggle session” about, in order to become better communi… I mean woke. Ideologies based of group identity have been using this since the early days.

While the academic degree of the programmer still is “Master”. I give it another year.
coffeeblack··on Stanford's “Elimination of Harmful Language” Initiative
And of course the “Master’s” degree.
