codingclaws··on So long WordPress
I'm reading the WordPress docs right now as an experienced developer that hasn't used WordPress that much. It's kind of interesting. There's a whole REST API built into WordPress. And there's also a full on Node workflow that you can use to develop certain components.
codingclaws··on Ask HN: What's your Mac OS App side project?
Looked into building an FTP GUI for MacOS, but I found that there aren't any easy options for programmatically doing SFTP in Swift. Best option looks like it's SwiftNIO which is fairly low level.
codingclaws··on Ask HN: What's the "best" movie you've ever seen?
terminator 1, predator, total recall, twins
codingclaws··on Ask HN: Any Modern, Serverless Alternatives to Lobste.rs?
I develop a HN/Reddit/Lobste.rs like internet forum [0]. It's Node/Postgres with a vanilla SSR front-end. It's not serverless.

codingclaws··on Ask HN: What type of Auth are you using on your side projects?
I develop an internet forum [0] that uses express-session with a Redis datastore for standard username and password website login. Separately, it also has a JSON API that uses OAuth 2 auth code flow with PKCE [1].

codingclaws··on Ask HN: How many domain names do you own?
You know what I mean.
codingclaws··on Ask HN: How many domain names do you own?
I'll team up with you, if you need a developer.
codingclaws··on Ask HN: How many domain names do you own?
Over 5k?! Do you spend $50k/year to keep them?
codingclaws··on Ask HN: Should I give honest cost estimates?
How do you factor in family, rent, etc.? Do you multiply everything by say 1.25? Or do you actually put these line items in your proposal?
codingclaws··on Ask HN: Should I give honest cost estimates?
But aren't most estimates low?

codingclaws··on Ask HN: Nontech solo founder, how to build with freelancer devs
As a longtime freelance mvp dev, I prefer Craigslist because I don't have to fill out forms or pay commissions. Instead, I can just send a simple email.
codingclaws··on Ask HN: Is it feasible to serve up a remote file for a file download link?
I need to run back-end code when the download link is clicked. Does this solution still hold?
codingclaws··on Ask HN: How are small tech companies adapting to remote work permanence?
Are you hiring? I've been a freelance written communication developer for 20 years.
codingclaws··on Ask HN: What was your best interview experience?
It was 2017.
codingclaws··on Ask HN: What was your best interview experience?
I responded to their Craigslist ad via email detailing which parts of their stack I did and did not have experience with. For some parts of their stack I said I have never used this but I have used this similar thing.

Their first email response back to me was an offer which I accepted.

codingclaws··on Bluesky adds direct messages
I am in the middle of implementing DMs. What are my options for making it e2e encrypted? I am using postgres if that matters.
codingclaws··on Discussion: Job seekers can't find a job and Employers can't find an employees
A huge part of the problem is that it's very hard to prove and evaluate developer competency.
codingclaws··on Help us invent CSS Grid Level 3, a.k.a. "Masonry" layout
It is actually responsive, I think because I used percentages in the CSS.
codingclaws··on Help us invent CSS Grid Level 3, a.k.a. "Masonry" layout
It's centered basically. All rows span the same width, but the heights of the rows can differ.
codingclaws··on Help us invent CSS Grid Level 3, a.k.a. "Masonry" layout
I built a masonry layout with only CSS and HTML 10 years ago. The site is actually still live. A scripting language is used to generate the HTML and CSS based on the dimensions of the images. But the masonry runs left to right not top to bottom.

codingclaws··on Ask HN: What were your 20s like?

codingclaws··on Institutions try to preserve the problem to which they are the solution
the left hand of darkness, read it recently
codingclaws··on Ask HN: What non hourly rate should I charge for this system I built?
He responded with "how would it work"? I think he is referring to his feature request and is ignoring my payment renegotiation.

He asked me to build this system for him. He bought a web hosting account, and I deployed an instance of the system to his hosting.

Show vendors can log into the public site. And he is the only one that can log into the admin area.

How do I ask him how much value it provides him? Do I just point blank ask him how much he makes per year or per show?

codingclaws··on Ask HN: How do I charge a client a % of profits?
Thanks, maybe I will ask another question with more details to see what my options are.
