codezero··on Leatherman (vagabond)
It exists. Well almost. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barkley_Marathons
codezero··on VLT observations of interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS II
A lot of quacks online are saying it could be, or by proxy that “it’s like nothing we’ve ever seen”

Looking at you Angry Astronaut.

codezero··on GMP damaging Zen 5 CPUs?
I recently built a 9950x3d system and it definitely runs hotter/louder than my other builds. To be fair, it also has a 5090 in it, but I liquid cool the 9950 and over all the system is just hot. If I saw 165W rated on a 170W system, I think that kind of just answers it, I see no reason not to overcool a system with high end electronics on it, and there's no reason to toe the line so closely.
codezero··on The GitHub website is slow on Safari
Can’t speak for the person above but we keep a lot of configuration files in git and could easily write a thousand new configs in a single PR, or adding a new key to all the configs for example.
codezero··on The GitHub website is slow on Safari
I don’t have this problem on iOS safari (haven’t checked desktop but never noticed any issues in recent months)
codezero··on One universal antiviral to rule them all?
The three times my father tested positive for COVID he never had symptoms, never has. Always curious about why that might be!
codezero··on AnduinOS
I’m curious if anyone here uses this and can share their experience.
codezero··on OpenAI Progress
You can run GPT1 and 2 on consumer hardware so nothing is preventing you from exploring that art :)
codezero··on Try and
Do or do not. There is no try and.

Using try and is such a huge pet peeve of mine. I almost don’t want to understand how it might be acceptable even though the ship has sailed.

codezero··on AWS's sudden removal of a 10-year account and all of its data: lessons learned
Also worth mentioning AWS eventually restored their account though I’m sure it’s just because of the noise they made.
codezero··on US reportedly forcing TSMC to buy 49% stake in Intel to secure tariff relief
having the tech doesn't build the actual fabs, and a two or three year halt in production or a transfer of that production from Taiwan to China while the US builds up its own production would be devastating for the US.
codezero··on The mystery of Winston Churchill's dead platypus was finally solved
thanks, I was trying to find that even though I read most of the article lol
codezero··on Kaleidos – A portable nuclear microreactor that replaces diesel generators
They say five years before refueling and 20 years total lifetime.
codezero··on Ferrari Status
I know someone with a GT3 RS who owns no other porches. Is this just for new models? (Theirs was a few years old when purchased)
codezero··on UK: Phone networks down: EE, BT, Three, Vodafone, O2 not working in mass outage
they sincerely didn't think they'd need to
codezero··on How I lost my backpack with passports and laptop
Yeah I’m pretty sure I got limited because I said multiple stupid things, appreciate the heads up but I’ll take my punishment :)
codezero··on How I lost my backpack with passports and laptop
Glad to hear I'm not the only one who always has the loop around their foot! Minimal inconvenience for the potential loss.
codezero··on ASCIIMoon: The moon's phase live in ASCII art
Only a little disappointed this didn't render cleanly in my terminal when curled.
codezero··on Apple Notes Expected to Gain Markdown Support in iOS 26
I pinged one of the editors and they updated the article, thanks for calling this out.
codezero··on Claude 4
I think this is interesting but I want to add my own anecdata in contrast. I have been playing a single player pen and paper RPG that I ask Claude to DM. In one game I named a character Rimmer and Claude started DMing the game very clearly as if it was in the red dwarf universe. I thought it added a fun atmosphere and it was nice to see it do so without an explicit prompt to make it in that world. In fact it did better with the implicit scene setting than when I asked it to do it as if it were in the red dwarf universe (subjectively)
codezero··on Veo 3 and Imagen 4, and a new tool for filmmaking called Flow
what about all the cartographers, the printing press workers, the stables that tend to the working horses?

Technology is inevitable and it's a tool, advancing technology will always leave people who specialize and are unable to adapt in a bad position, but this won't stop technology from advancing.

I think one could argue this is one of the reasons many people would like their community/government to provide social safety nets for them. It would make specializing less risky in a time when technology advances at a fast pace.

codezero··on Why I stopped angel investing after 15 years, and what I'm doing instead
Very few of the startups I’ve worked for have given board seats before Series B.
codezero··on Retailers will soon have only about 7 weeks of full inventories left
It's the US, we are definitely going to panic buy, and we'll do it at the very last second to make sure the stress and shock is attenuated.
codezero··on Retailers will soon have only about 7 weeks of full inventories left
If nothing has changed, and they've proven they won't change their government after 15-55 million people died, why would they do so now?
codezero··on NSF director to resign amid grant terminations, job cuts, and controversy
having received NSF grants, this isn't how it works.
codezero··on Dirty tricks 6502 programmers use (2019)
Have you written about this anywhere? Sounds like a fun blog post to read :)
codezero··on Nvidia Faces $5.5B Hit as U.S. Restrictions Halt Chinese Sales of H20 GPU
This one isn’t paywalled at least.
codezero··on Temu pulls its U.S. Google Shopping ads
What’s worse, many real brands you recognize sold off their brand name a while ago so you’re not even getting the product quality you might expect.
codezero··on Evidence of 22,000-year-old vehicles found at White Sands National Park
no reason to assume that given the lack of evidence for wheels in North America at that time, or even for many thousands of years later. Early (~2k+ years ago) examples of wheels are not found in the context of load bearing devices and are few and far between.
codezero··on Evidence of 22,000-year-old vehicles found at White Sands National Park
Established science has no problem being challenged with evidence. Do the work.
