codez··on Show HN: DeveloperAgents – a newsletter to promote remote developers
If I'm a remote contract developer looking for new contracts, is there a way for me to use this to get my details out to people? It was a little unclear to me. Subscribe implied I had positions to fill and suggest a developer didn't really imply I could suggest myself? I tried HireMyFriend which is a little similar but I haven't had any luck with that because I don't have enough developer friends on Twitter to recommend me.
codez··on It's OK not to use tools
Header and footers, layouts. Just use something like jade?
codez··on Ask HN: How do you tackle back-pain?
I've been in a similar place with back pain in my lower back. I also play a lot of sport. Simply a mixture of not stretching enough after sports combined with sitting for long periods of time and not being active enough during development hours can make your body really tighten up. My advice is to see a good physio even just for one session who will most likely be able to manipulate your back etc. and really help you out. That's what I did and it was the best thing to do. I'd left it til it got that bad I went to hospital because I thought maybe there was something really wrong... a few days later and one session with a physio I felt awesome. Riding a bike is great cardio for you and it shouldn't harm you. It's just making sure to stretch out all the right places after. It's amazing how many places will affect your back.

codez··on Buttons – A button library built with Sass and Compass
I agree to an extent. In corporates etc. you're going to be building from scratch because these things won't fit in with guidelines and it's easier to build from scratch. However, it's good for quickness when working on personal projects. That being said I do find this one a little overkill and more than what you'd probably want without creating custom builds etc. also some of the behaviour and styling doesn't work as I'd assume. For example, drop down isn't drop down, it's more like drop on.
codez··on Ask HN: Feedback on my product idea please.
Unfortunately I'm pretty sure there are already tools out there that do this.
codez··on Show HN: Pintask, the hackable task tracker
Hackable would be if it was OS IMO like the other Trello clones which are completely OS like tyto being able to host your own and tweak everything to your needs.
codez··on Show HN: Pintask, the hackable task tracker
I'd say extendable not hackable.
codez··on Show HN: Pintask, the hackable task tracker
I instantly got a headache, viewing this on a mobile device
codez··on Show HN: Pintask, the hackable task tracker
Have a go with tyto if you want something completely hackable.

codez··on You can't JavaScript under pressure
I can only imagine it was used for maybe extracting the filename extensions but the alternative is to simply use indexOf and substr.
codez··on You can't JavaScript under pressure
This is cool!.

3:57 for me. I implemented the last one so it would parse integers as well and was like stuck for a moment because I was getting 12 when it should've been 3.

codez··on DIY Computer Science Degree
This comes across as more DIY Web Dev.

CS degrees are not so much about programming, as some people have stated. More so theoretical understanding, logic(which is important IMO), best practices on projects, approaches(agile etc.). The programming that is touched on will be an intro to an OO language. Generally, most CS students are expected to learn programming in their own time on their own accord in order to complete assignments etc.

codez··on Ask HN: Contributors for open courseware on web development
The things is web development is a huge thing to cover and there are several languages concerned with each aspect.

The building blocks for free courses are out there. I think this is where pineapple.io plays a part.

codez··on Nanobar.js – Lightweight progress bars
It isn't as small as it could be though. Check out progre(c)ss
codez··on Nanobar.js – Lightweight progress bars
IMO a lightweight progress bar requires no JS at all, especially jQuery as a dependency, that is overkill.

You can use a CSS only solution which will achieve the same thing like progre(c)ss. Or use the progress element as well.

codez··on (cs)spinner – pure CSS loading animations with minimal effort
Valid point, I'm in the nexus group so chrome is the browser for me on Android.
codez··on Show HN: HTML5 Database using data-attributes (very raw – proof of concept).
Kinda cool.

But I'm not sure I understand the reasoning for this though.

Essentially, you've created a way to parse and query objects using an object structure to hold them? so json.

Then I assume you are storing this in localStorage or something similar?

If you are going to go down the back end route though you'd surely just opt to be using mongoDB no?

codez··on Ask HN: What are your top 3 developer and power users tool?
It's awesome ;)
codez··on Ask HN: Web App or mobile native app?
Maybe build a mobile first web app.

If you are really wanting to provide native you could use something like PhoneGap and then you can expose to both markets.

Then if the demand was really what you expect you may have generated enough revenue by then to just get a native app for say Android and iOS built by specialist developers for not much money. If you're app is simple and catchy then it could be low cost to fund that way too.

Just my two cents of course.

codez··on iOS 7.1
Would an update like this potentially fix iOS' buggy implementation of rendering CSS viewport units??
codez··on Ask HN: What are your top 3 developer and power users tool?
Nothing special,

- Sublime

- Fish Shell

- An array of browsers

codez··on (cs)spinner – pure CSS loading animations with minimal effort
Thanks. So far it works in all the browsers I've used that support use of CSS3 animations.
codez··on (cs)spinner – pure CSS loading animations with minimal effort
This surprises me as it works on my Android devices. I'll take a look.
codez··on (cs)spinner – pure CSS loading animations with minimal effort
Ha someone beat me to posting my own thing. I wondered why it had a little jump in exposure.
codez··on Ask HN: Looking for contributors?
Anyone is more than welcome to help out with some of the projects I have on our even suggest some new ones to collab on. I have a few ideas.

Tyto: http://jh3y.github.io/tyto

Still needs improvement but is a purely html,js, CSS project using a nice simple set up for people to get involved with without trouble.

Also fleshing out a UI component library built with the future in mind.

Hit me up if interested: hey.jhey@live.co.uk

codez··on Ask HN: Why is Apple App store asking password for free apps?
As well as for security, I believe it's to help with things like purchase history, recommendations etc. technically even though it's free, it's still a purchase. If you change your phone it's easy to back up or remember the apps you had installed by referencing purchase history and stuff.

I'm not sure also but if something goes from being free to paid, you are covered to still get it free but that is purely speculative.
