codesuela··on NH-based entrepreneurs to launch Bitcoin ATM this week
This is not to be confused with the other Bitcoin ATM. The "ATM" described in this article is more of a Bitcoin vending machine.

Bitcoin Machine (the one this article is about): http://rack.1.mshcdn.com/media/ZgkyMDEzLzA1LzAyLzEzL0xhbWFzc...

Nope, I am seeing it too. Flag it to get him banned.

Would've gotten bonus points if you had implemented it with CoffeeScript

codesuela··on Was the Bitcoin Flock Just Sheared?
I think the more likely scenario is to cause panic to scoop up cheap bitcoins and then let them rise to new heights
codesuela··on MtRed Bitcoin mining pool will be shutting down
It's basically a computer with specialized hardware whose sole purpose is to mine Bitcoins, see http://www.butterflylabs.com/ for an example
codesuela··on Efnet klines all Hetzner netblocks
> Unfortunately, according to trusted sources (ex-employees) of Hetzner.de, this is policy and not an exception. They have realized they can save money (by limiting attacks) by redirecting the attacks back at the person reporting them. That way, the hacker/cracker/kiddie using their services will not cancel their contract with Hetzner, and in return Hetzner will remain protected.

I don't think that this has to do with Hetzner needing criminal business but rather with Hetzner not wanting to shut down an entire server if a part of it has been breached. Forwarding that complaint in it's entirety is definitely not best practice however making such allegations is neither.

codesuela··on Nvidia's 3D Tegra driver now open sourced
I am no expert in this field but I distinctly remember back when I had a Tegra 2 (LG Optimus 2X) phone that the major obstacle of porting ICS to it was that there was no documentation and no open source code. With this barrier gone I hope Nvidia will be able to pick up some steam again looking as to how they pissed most of the cellphone manufacturers according to this article http://semiaccurate.com/2013/02/18/nvidias-telegraphs-tegras... (again, don't know how true this is as I am no expert)

This could also be an interesting development for the Ouya game console, maybe game devs will be able to get more performance out of the Tegra 3 chip with it's sourcecode out in the open.

codesuela··on Facebook Home: Another Android Lock Pick
I would not say rooting your phone is not kosher. A little inconvinient maybe but nowadays you don't have to be a hacker to unlock your phone. Every tech literate person should be able to do this (as annectodatly wittnessed by me, a couple of my friends flash CW when purchasing a non Nexus Android and they aren't software devs)
codesuela··on Geocities Bootstrap Theme
How is this bad?!

On a side note: I really miss styling scrollbars and running marquee text through the website title and status bars

codesuela··on Python 2.7.4 Released

codesuela··on A new study suggests alcohol is more harmful than heroin or crack
> However to say that pot can be dangerous because it's users often adopt fatass lifestyles seems a bit disingenious. You could similarly start attributing sports injuries to anabolic steroids, though that would be similarly disingenious.

yes, you are completely right. I just wanted to make the point that you shouldn't promote THC as a completely harmeless wonderdrug without potential to worsen your life. I wrongfully assumed that you might fall into this camp.

> In your fictional situation I think I would choose the unstated option c) clean up my diet, smoke pot occasionally, and go to the gym almost every day. Hmm.. come to think of it, that is already what I chose...

sounds like a reasonable choice :) more power to you

codesuela··on A new study suggests alcohol is more harmful than heroin or crack
> This whole thing seems very bullshitty to me.

I agree however

> Has anyone ever killed their liver with cannibis?

Liver damage from steroid abuse only applies to use of oral steroids. And even that is "only" comparable to drinking alcohol. Looking as to how professional bodybuilders utilizing steroids tend to lead a vastly more healthy lifestyle (diet, workout) than most people it'd assume it somewhat reduces overall health risk. Assuming the fictional situation where I would have to pick between option

a) a friend starting to use steroids, cleaning up his diet and working out most days of the week

or b) smoke pot every day, play video games and eat Ben and Jerrys

I would pick option a) by a wide margin.

Personally I have smoked pot in the past and while casually smoking a little weed is all good and fun (like having a few beers), repated use has a zombifying effect on me which is very strong. For me it's as if my whole brain is slowed down. I've seem people who still get along just fine smoking pot regularly but I've also seem people whose personal development just completely stopped and their social life is centered around smoking bud as the result of regular pot use. I am all for legalization but don't make the mistake of assuming that just because delta 9 THC is a chemical that occurs in a plant it is a drug without any negative consequences or addiction potential for anyone.

yep, I sometime contemplate telling users that they are hellbanned but first I check their comment and submission history.
codesuela··on Firefox Nightly Gets New Baseline JIT Compiler
I think that is not a really fair comparison, Python with PyPy is pretty fast. Actually I would like to see a comparison for Python on PyPy vs JS in IonMonkey/V8. There was just a higher incentive to optimize Javascript as it was pretty slow to begin with and was exposed to a lot more users (in the sense that it runs on clients rather than servers) than Python, Ruby and Perl

Edit: First hit on Google shows that jited Python (PyPy) is very close to jited Javascript: http://blog.kgriffs.com/2012/10/23/python-vs-node-vs-pypy.ht...

codesuela··on Firefox Nightly Gets New Baseline JIT Compiler
If someone could answer me this it would be much appreciated: The blogpost describes the current flow of code as such: Interpreter -> JaegerMonkey -> IonMonkey

Is process repeated every time I open a website or do browsers cache the generated bytecode? What about popular libraries? Will jQuery get JITed differently for every website that has it?

codesuela··on Why Rackspace Is Suing The Most Notorious Patent Troll In America
It is awesome to see a company put their money where their mouth is, the good will with the dev community they are building with this will easily exceed the costs of fighting a troll in court.

codesuela··on The Bitcoin Bubble and the Future of Currency
Is this becoming a joke or something? In every god damn Bitcoin thread there is a very smart person who always asks the same question. If you are so serious about it why not just use Google?

https://encrypted.google.com/search?hl=en&q=is%20there%2...

there you go.

FYI asking this question does not make you seem like a financial genius nor is it a witty reply.

codesuela··on JavaScript is Not Web Assembly
this, the notion that CoffeeScript generated code resembles some kind of arcane binary like output is wrong. As knowing the basics of JavaScript is pretty much a requirement for working with CoffeScript I never ever encountered any problems when debugging generated code because is not obfuscated and easy to read and the compiler doesn't do anything you didn't specifically write in your CoffeeScript. I am going to go out on a limb here and say that I think compiled CoffeeScript is easier to read then most peoples hand written JS. What makes code unreadable is the Closure compiler which is completely different beast.
