cocochanel··on A missing letter helped create a tech billionaire
Same here. Happy for the guy and his billion, but I can't understand why the product is so successful, despite being painfully slow –at every single page load it makes me want to cry. Does anyone here actually choose to use it, or like me, you happen to work in a company that settled on it. Can anyone offer perspective, am I missing something?
cocochanel··on Websites using SSAI (server side ad injection)
The way I understand it, SSAI is a video solution because you don't have to worry about impression (you have the view count), just the click so it can be done server side. Google has their own SSAI solution they call DAI. Criteo doesn't do it mainly because they have low video inventory. Correct me if I'm wrong.
cocochanel··on Is There a Fourth Neutrino Out There in the Universe?
Medium annoys me so hard I just give up on reading content and close the page.
cocochanel··on New Office Hours Aim for Well Rested, More Productive Workers
I can drink coffee after dinner and go to sleep almost immediately and feel great when I wake up. Coffee does literally nothing to my ability to sleep. It depends on the person.
cocochanel··on NHS.UK frontend
Dead link when I click on the logo at https://nhsuk.github.io/nhsuk-frontend/ - Please fix.
cocochanel··on Crazy things happening in SF because of its out-of-control housing prices
So someone making 100k spends half their disposable income for a 1-bedroom?
cocochanel··on Face-verify.js: Monitoring who is physically looking at a website
No! No! No! How much more intrusive do we need to get seriously? This is a naive solution to the problem stated. And a bad one at it, too.
cocochanel··on Analyzing Cryptocurrencies Using PostgreSQL
Agree with you, but your comment could be more constructive.

... says the Redux article.
cocochanel··on Anger as US internet privacy law scrapped
So now it's at the point where we need to be running our own self-hosted servers? As a European I find it weird that America land of Silicon Valley does not fight for important issues like this. Can anyone explain?
cocochanel··on What do you prefer – the French or the Silicon Valley dinner?
Chatting for 40 minutes about programming languages isn't any different. Also, there's no expectation to do so.
cocochanel··on New insights into mitochondria reveal how life expends energy
"There is a strong relationship between metabolic rate—the rate at which we’re taking in oxygen and burning up food—and lifespan."

I thought this was disproved. Anyone care to clarify?

cocochanel··on StarCraft Remastered
I want a Warcraft III Remastered!
cocochanel··on I am an Uber survivor
I have to state my reasons as a required field, AND wait for their "approval" to delete my own account? WTF is this shit.
cocochanel··on Node.js 7.6 Released
Much easier to read and understand. Same scope. No chains and chains of nested messiness.
cocochanel··on Show HN: Milanote – A notes app for creative work
Fantastic app! I was a bit reluctant to try it out because I prefer desktop apps, but I gave it a try and I love it. Instantly changed the way I work.
cocochanel··on Bach's Holy Dread
Thank you for this amazing link!
cocochanel··on Visual Studio Code 1.8
I switched to VS code today and I love it! Looking forward to JS improvements. Thank you to the Microsoft team! :)
cocochanel··on Quit Social Media, Your Career May Depend on It
I quit Facebook for 6 months and I felt that a big burden was dropped off my shoulders. I found myself reading more books and frequenting a lot of interesting blogs and discussions. I also focused on personal projects without the need of social validation. Then I reactivated it for a week to give sign of life to my "friends", but felt a pressure to be active, to post and respond to messages. I had gone back to checking my Facebook as my first tab and felt suffocated by the need to always "keep up." I finally decided to deactivate it once for all and never looked back. I personally think that instant messaging is the sweet spot, allowing me to communicate with friends I actually care about, without the need to rack up likes and keep up with the joneses.
cocochanel··on Quick, Draw
My doodles are terrible data points but this was a lot of fun! Guessed a few of them right, although a bit too fast :)
