cloudwalking··on Gmail blows up e-mail marketing by caching all images on Google servers
These two statements of yours seem at odds with each other:

"The privacy and security protections are about preventing other information (like ip, browser headers, cookies) from leaking, rather than read notifications."

"If you care about maintaining your privacy, I would recommend disabling the new functionality."

cloudwalking··on Mangalyaan, India's Mars Orbiter, has successfully commenced its journey to Mars
This is talking about the Argentinian government defaulting on their debt. That has literally nothing to do with US government accruing more debt.

So yes, I have no problem making that statement.

cloudwalking··on Amazon Prime Air
Actually, 80% of US citizens are in "urban areas." http://www.census.gov/newsroom/releases/archives/2010_census...
cloudwalking··on Mangalyaan, India's Mars Orbiter, has successfully commenced its journey to Mars
Why would they care about US government debt? Nothing about government debt is detrimental to the human condition.
cloudwalking··on Okay, Google, you officially beat Siri
I agree that would be a good feature!

Unfortunately Google probably can't ingest the data without the agreement in place. So unless Google Now actually ran on your phone (it doesn't), you're outta luck.

cloudwalking··on The Mission of Tesla
Everybody is missing a huge point:

Vehicle fire now completely covered under warranty, even when caused by operator error.

"Third, to reinforce how strongly we feel about the low risk of fire in our cars, we will be amending our warranty policy to cover damage due to a fire, even if due to driver error. Unless a Model S owner actively tries to destroy the car, they are covered. Our goal here is to eliminate any concern about the cost of such an event and ensure that over time the Model S has the lowest insurance cost of any car at our price point. Either our belief in the safety of our car is correct and this is a minor cost or we are wrong, in which case the right thing is for Tesla to bear the cost rather than the car buyer."

cloudwalking··on Meet Coin (YC W13), a startup creating a universal credit card
Maybe the button only works when the card is near the phone?
cloudwalking··on Coin
I agree. Maybe you can only change the selected card when it's near your phone?
cloudwalking··on Why I won't get a Google+ Custom URL
Seriously, did you read any of the other comments on this thread?

Facebook: "If you select a username or similar identifier for your account or Page, we reserve the right to remove or reclaim it if we believe it is appropriate"

Twitter: "We reserve the right at all times (but will not have an obligation) to remove or refuse to distribute any Content on the Services, to suspend or terminate users, and to reclaim usernames without liability to you."

Reddit: "Service Provider or third parties may charge you fees for products or services offered for sale through the Website, and/or for access to portions of the Website or the Website as a whole" AND "Provider may, in appropriate circumstances and at its discretion, suspend or terminate the access of and take other action against users, subscribers, registrants and account holders"

Tumblr: "Tumblr reserves the right to refuse registration of, cancel, or modify a Tumblr URL in its sole discretion."

And finally, you don't need any "/u/0" after the domain name. See: https://plus.google.com/+LinusTorvalds

cloudwalking··on Why I won't get a Google+ Custom URL
If you don't use it, why don't you just ignore it, like 99% of most YouTube uploaders?

All of these recent Google+ changes, aside from "Real Names," only affect people with a large YouTube following.

I absolutely support you deleting your YouTube account in protest of the ever-increasing Google+ requirements. But at least call it what it is--deleting your account in protest.

cloudwalking··on Why I won't get a Google+ Custom URL
Honest question: are these terms of service significantly different than other services? Do Twitter / Github / etc have similar terms?
cloudwalking··on Why I won't get a Google+ Custom URL
Deleting your account was less galling than using your phone number to confirm your identity? Hm.
cloudwalking··on Google to reject Chrome extensions outside of Chrome Web Store
Being constantly signed in also gives you a lot of advantages. Not everybody has a huge distain for being signed in. There are plenty of people who PREFER a simpler OS with a simpler UI that doesn't get viruses or trojans, running on hardware cheaper than an iPad.
cloudwalking··on Tap your iPhone to unlock your Mac
But this app works with iPhone 4S and 5 too. Those devices don't have an M7.
cloudwalking··on Tap your iPhone to unlock your Mac
But the app has to be running in memory AND watching the accelerator AT ALL TIMES. How does that not drain the phone battery?

cloudwalking··on Dear Google, Thanks For Copying My Startup But You’re Doing It All Wrong
No.
cloudwalking··on Tap your iPhone to unlock your Mac

cloudwalking··on Patent war goes nuclear: Microsoft, Apple-owned “Rockstar” sues Google
Google doesn't have >80% of the market. Android has >80% of the market. Google does not control Android. Yes, Google provides a lot of services for Android users, but Android works fine without Google services.

Everybody is so quick to forget about "Android fragmentation," but fragmentation is a clear indicator of Google's lack of control over Android.

cloudwalking··on Patent war goes nuclear: Microsoft, Apple-owned “Rockstar” sues Google
But Android is the alternative to the Apple hegemony. You can't get an iPhone for $50 in Asia, but you can get a $50 Android phone.
cloudwalking··on The FreedMan Chair - A better way to sit.
Simon, can you post some more pictures of people sitting in the chair? Or even better, videos of people trying the chair out?

It's hard to buy a chair without trying it first.

cloudwalking··on Ask HN: Buffer got hacked - does anyone know details?
No, they just temporarily disabled their FB app. Once they re-enable, the posts should reappear...
cloudwalking··on Google’s iron grip on Android: Controlling open source by any means necessary
Yes I agree.

Android is not about North America. Android is about India, Africa, and China.

cloudwalking··on Google’s iron grip on Android: Controlling open source by any means necessary
> Android has arguably won the smartphone wars, but "Android winning" and "Google winning" are not necessarily the same thing.

This is false. Google wins when more people use the Internet. Android is fulfilling its initial goal incredibly well: offer a free and open-source mobile OS to encourage mobile device proliferation.

Android is doing exactly what it was designed to do.

cloudwalking··on If you use Google+, you could become an ad next month
Better yet, Google should not show ads for products that my friends rate poorly...
cloudwalking··on If you use Google+, you could become an ad next month
Why would Google show a negative review as an "endorsement"? If you rate a restaurant 1 out of 5 stars, Google isn't going to show "Cloudwalking rated this 1/5 stars!" in an ad.
cloudwalking··on Patent troll Lodsys demands $5,000 from Martha Stewart. That was a bad idea
How does Martha Stewart have the motivation and resources that Apple doesn't? I'm skeptical.
cloudwalking··on Google Shopping Express now available to all SF and Peninsula Shoppers
I've been using GSX for a few months, and it's incredibly convenient. When I think of something I need from the store, I open the mobile app and add it to my cart. Once a week or so I submit the order and it shows up at my door a couple hours later.

On one hand it saves me money because I don't impulse buy anything while walking through target. On the other hand, it's really easy to impulse buy stuff while sitting on the toilet.

cloudwalking··on Starting an Airline
I think you're right :|
cloudwalking··on Starting an Airline
It is? Personally, I'll take the more expensive airline ticket if it means my airline's safety standards aren't weighed against profit margins.

Unfortunately "The Market" optimizes for profit, which is almost never in my (and the consumers') best interest.
