cloudwalking··on The Apple iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus Review
Blind testing swings the other way: http://www.androidauthority.com/blind-camera-shootout-winner...

Taste is subjective, I have no doubt you like the Samsung more. But subjectively, on average, people like iPhone photos more often than they like Android photos.

cloudwalking··on Tesla shares dive after Consumer Reports yanks recommendation for Model S
The Tesla motors will get much more reliable with time. Nobody has mass-produced such a high torque motor before, it will take time to get the manufacturing ironed out. They will certainly get them to last much longer, but even if they don't the motor unit is only a couple thousand dollars and only takes a couple hours to swap. A Electric powertrain is significantly simpler than a combustion vehicle.
cloudwalking··on Tesla shares dive after Consumer Reports yanks recommendation for Model S
My 2012 M3 needed an entire new engine at 16k miles. Unfortunately, unlike a Tesla, replacing my motor can't be done in a couple hours (or for a couple grand).

But the fit and finish is fantastic!

cloudwalking··on Meet Model X
You can't find pictures because the car was released yesterday.

In the presentation the middle row seats inclined forward. On the Model X webpage it says the back row seats fold flat. You could definitely fit a whitewater kayak in; a downriver kayak would be tougher. Perhaps you need the configuration with two seats in the second row (instead of three) -- that should be enough room to fit a kayak between. That said, I imagine the second row seats will fold down.

But you could just put it on the roof :)

cloudwalking··on Meet Model X
There are roof racks available which cover only one falcon door. Alternatively you could just put the kayak inside the car.
cloudwalking··on Tesla Model X Launch event, livestream
I do wish they had used YouTube for live stream, instead of livestream.com, like SpaceX. Less janky.
cloudwalking··on Tesla Model X Launch event, livestream
Tesla events always start late. Powerwall event started 40 minutes late.
cloudwalking··on SpaceX CRS-7 Failure Investigation Teleconference Thread
For pedantry's sake: Falcon 9 blew itself up once an anomaly was detected. The Air Force kill command was not sent until dozens of minutes after the vehicle disintegrated.

What about the carbon footprint of producing gasoline? You're missing half of the equation.
cloudwalking··on The Electric Car
And you can recycle (sell) the battery pack after you replace it. What do you think is going into Tesla's Power Wall? Why do you think they're pushing leases so aggressively?

Because every day there are more people and more jobs but not more land.

Sure he did. He just wasn't CEO when he (and the four other founders) started it.

> You will eat shit food.

Not necessarily. It should be possible to grow nearly any spice or vegetable, if the greenhouse is complex (and computer controlled) enough.

When you have a couple hundred people or more, living for a year (or more) on a base, it would probably make sense to have great food. There will be so few creature comforts (like you point out), they'll perfect what they can.

That and fancy VR :)

cloudwalking··on Samsung is imploding in China
If you have an iPhone, the carrier has nothing to do with your updates.

Google's a lot bigger than you imagine.
cloudwalking··on There are now at least eight Chromium-based Android default browsers
Then they shouldn't fork it.
cloudwalking··on There are now at least eight Chromium-based Android default browsers
Chrome on iOS does all rendering using the native iOS WebView. Rendering should be quite consistent with Safari (although JavaScript may be slower). Chrome differentiates by implementing their own network stack and browser "chrome" (tabs, history, favs, etc).
cloudwalking··on There are now at least eight Chromium-based Android default browsers
FWIW this also works in Google Maps for iOS. I wish it worked system wide.
cloudwalking··on Scientists skeptical about Theranos blood test
You can't actually walk into a service center and order tests. You need a doctor to order them. This is one thing Theranos is trying to change: enable and simplify access to your own medical data.

cloudwalking··on Stupid Shit No One Needs and Terrible Ideas Hackathon
This could be really fun. Some quick ideas:

Like React.js But For Cooks - Metered digital MSG dispenser (perhaps in a spray?)

Monetizing The Eschaton - Credit card-reading donation plate / tip jar

Hyperlocal Paranoia - Device with LED/beeper + wifi, indicates whenever a new/unseen MAC address is nearby

Flesh Skeuomorphism - Computer mouse with skin-like texture

Scatological APIs - Device and service which monitor stool movements. Summaries, graphs, alerts.

Targeting The "Hikikomori" Space - Take any/all existing services (Uber, WashIO, food delivery, etc) and guarantee no conversation required.

cloudwalking··on Google’s ARC Now Runs Android Apps on Chrome OS, Windows, Mac, and Linux
He is not writing C# at Google.

That said, sure, there ARE people writing some C#. Google has applications that run on Windows. But very very few people are writing C#.

cloudwalking··on Tesla is a Battery Company
I agree with what you are saying. I'd just like to be pedantic about 300+ HP induction motors: they are deceivingly complex to manufacture. The tolerances required are measured in microns. Fortunately, the motors are inexpensive (relative to ICE engines), easy to swap out of the car, and cheap to teardown and rebuild. Manufacturing, design for manufacturing, and efficient service and rework departments will be important for scaling motor production.
cloudwalking··on Google’s ARC Now Runs Android Apps on Chrome OS, Windows, Mac, and Linux
But nobody at Google writes C#. I think you're much more likely to see Go (or Python) where Google designed much of the toolchain.
