clnhlzmn··on SQLite Is Dynamically Typed (2020)
If you're storing the text "1.0000" in a NUMERIC column maybe you're the dangerous one.
clnhlzmn··on I made a state machine compiler
I intend to work on a graphical output.
clnhlzmn··on I made a state machine compiler
Yes thanks for the tip that's something I'll be working on.
clnhlzmn··on I made a state machine compiler
Thanks!
clnhlzmn··on SpinLaunch is building a centrifuge to launch satellites into orbit
> 5000 mph > a little extra air

I think this is actually a big deal.

clnhlzmn··on SpinLaunch is building a centrifuge to launch satellites into orbit
That's what seems to me to be the biggest challenge too. Going from vacuum to 1 atm at 4000 mph has got to be quite a shock. Might as well just smash the thing into a wall.
clnhlzmn··on Navy F/A-18 squadron commander's take on AI repeatedly beating real pilot
I was thinking it's because Air Force leadership are all pilots.

> Because we need a human up there, flying around, controlling the missiles

Do we? Why is this important. I thought everything could be done remotely these days.

clnhlzmn··on Navy F/A-18 squadron commander's take on AI repeatedly beating real pilot
> "missile only" territory

I wonder why we're even talking about planes any more. Missiles to kill the planes and missiles to attack the ground. No pilots, no problems. Right?

Here is a good video on that subject:

clnhlzmn··on The company that sells lost airplane luggage
You would have to pay extra for baggage insurance if you claimed your bag was worth $1M. Just like at the post office.
clnhlzmn··on Show HN: Lite – A small, fast text editor
Textadept is great. It's my daily driver. That's mostly because I was looking for something lightweight that I could configure to operate similarly on windows and mac.
clnhlzmn··on DOJ plans to strike against encryption while the Techlash iron is hot
Would Apple or Google be able to get a backdoor to Signal? Edit: nevermind, I think I understand what you're suggesting.
clnhlzmn··on Russia blocks ProtonMail
I set up auto forwarding from my Gmail to my Protonmail and an auto reply from my Gmail that informs the sender that I have a new address (not including the new address). After a few months of this I had everything switched. I still maintain my Gmail account, but no new mail is going through it.
clnhlzmn··on Cows painted with zebra-like striping can avoid biting fly attack
They did paint some of the cows with black paint to rule out the effect coming only from the paint itself.
clnhlzmn··on A Simple Structure Unites All Human Languages
As far as I understand it cons just creates pairs (which can be interpreted as lists). It doesn't impose order.
clnhlzmn··on How to prevent software bug from killing lives like Boeing's or Tesla's?
I don't work with safety critical software, but I think the advice in general is to avoid relying on software alone for safety critical functions.
clnhlzmn··on Self Driving Cars Still Don’t Know How to See
It seems like the article is ignoring the countless pedestrians that have been killed by human drivers. Obviously self driving cars will make some mistakes, but I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that self driving cars already have a much better safety record than human drivers even with the as yet unsolved problems.
clnhlzmn··on Xray – An experimental next-generation Electron-based text editor
Check out Textadept. It's an editor written largely in Lua.
