clircle··on Add "fucking" to your Google searches to neutralize AI summaries
Seems like I’m mistaken about this, sorry everyone. I don’t have ai results in my google, don’t know why
clircle··on Add "fucking" to your Google searches to neutralize AI summaries
Alternatively, you can just disable AI overviews in your Google settings. But that does not make for a very interesting Gizmodo article.
clircle··on Google Pixel 4a's old firmware is gone, trapping users on buggy battery update
Concur, switched to iPhone around this time, as Android just started to feel like a knock off iOS rather than an alternative.
clircle··on Show HN: Org-Supertag
Avid org user, but I don't do any of the stuff that you mention. I just capture and agenda.

I'll just say that even to another "expert", you didn't explain what's so great about this annotation workflow.

clircle··on BlogScroll – An open directory of personal sites and blogs
Yeah but can any of them write well?
clircle··on Ask HN: What skills do you want to develop or improve in 2025?
I bought a rowing machine and just toss on some game of thrones and row for 35 mins. Good way to start the day.
clircle··on Excerpts from a conversation about personal information management
HN does not render markdown
clircle··on Moving to a World Beyond "p < 0.05" (2019)
I shrug because statistical signal detectors are useful, even if they can be gamed.
clircle··on Reflections on Palantir
> We need to teach our students...

Teach your values to your own kids, man

clircle··on Statisticians use a technique that leverages randomness to deal with the unknown
Does any living statistician come close to the level of Donald Rubin in terms of research impact? Missing data analysis, causal inference, EM algorithm, any probably more. He just walks around creating new subfields.
clircle··on The best browser bookmarking system is files
I guess i don’t do those modifications very much.

Also im a avid user of keyword bookmarks in Firefox, so I need to store those in Firefox anyway for them to work

clircle··on The best browser bookmarking system is files
I just meant that you can’t keep them in sync between browsers. You need a external program for that.
clircle··on The best browser bookmarking system is files
I think it's mostly a very good idea, but much less accessible compared to the omnipresent bookmarks bar, so I will keep using the bookmarks bar (whose primary downside is the vendor lock in, imo).
clircle··on Emacs Speaks Statistics
A great package that I use on a daily basis. I feel the dev team have some issues with scope of work and tech debt, but I still find ESS to the comfy-zone for R
clircle··on Vapour: A typed superset of the R programming language
Why would you do that? R is a just a tool for doing statistics or research. You need to search for jobs in your subject area like "ecologist", "econometrician", "green energy reseacher", etc.
clircle··on Vapour: A typed superset of the R programming language
Statisticians and researchers, is this helpful?
clircle··on Randomness extractors: making fair coins out of biased coins
This is a specific type of general algorithm/research area called Bernoulli Factories if anyone wants to go deep.
clircle··on Why You Should Learn Linux (As a Developer)
Thank goodness you aren't hiring, since you apparently believe that you can judge a person's abilities based on OS preference. God help your org if they decide to grant you more responsibility.
clircle··on Regex Crossword
Wow. This is evil and lovely.
clircle··on Just use fucking paper, man
I don’t understand how note taking is such an impassioned subject on this site.

But fwiw, what works for me is to have notes everywhere. I take notes in a journal, ephemeral notepad, emails, texts to myself, apple notes, and orgmode. I just want to have lots of accessibility.

clircle··on Moom 4: Next-generation window manager
I buy some MacOS utilities. There are some good ones out there, and I don't mind paying for things that make computers less grating.
clircle··on Biorecap: An R package for summarizing bioRxiv preprints with a local LLM
Doesn't this mean that biologists have a problem writing effective abstracts in the first place? I thought the point of an abstract was the summarize and motivate.
clircle··on Reddit banned me for developing Geddit
that's what I do. I suppose the Reddit folks do not care about the rss because either they forgot about it, or because it doesn't serve the full content, so it's not useful for apps.

My trick: subscribe to the "top weekly" feeds for each of your subs, which keeps the fire hose at a very manageable level.

clircle··on Objective Bayesian Hypothesis Testing
Since “that event” happened, its probability is 1.
clircle··on Generating Simpson's Paradox with Z3
Seems like an inappropriate use of the word "paradox". How about Simpson's intuitive situation?
clircle··on I'm funding Ladybird because I can't fund Firefox
Feeling the same about emacs. Id like to donate to emacs, but the only option is to fund fsf instead. Last I checked.
clircle··on Show HN: I made a split keyboard for large palms
Interesting to see a Maltron user in the wild! What made to buy one, and what's your take on them? (say, compared to Kinesis Advantage?)
clircle··on Copy and Paste context menu entries sometimes disabled when they should not be
Ah ok, I thought everyone was coordinating on breaking copy, not the browser itself!
clircle··on Show HN: I made a split keyboard for large palms
If want to get into ortholinear boards, but also want a keyboard with lots of keys, I recommend the Xbows boards. I got an Xbows lite off Ebay for $60, and it's my current fave.
clircle··on Do not confuse a random variable with its distribution
Whoops, you posted the wrong page. The statistics page that Hacker News needs to read is the one about how the Central Limit Theorem doesn't apply to everything damn thing.
