cleong··on A blockchain is a specific set of choices suitable for a narrow set of use-cases
Why would this work better? Not to be cynical but it seems from a engineering perspective that the trade off is security for data robustness? Anyone who takes control of the network will take control of all property title insurance data. In return at least i know up time will be 100%...

This might have been true 10 years ago with versions like PHP 4. But remember many companies have invested a lot into PHP including Facebook. In the newest version of PHP what you said cannot apply with a type system, OOP features like traits, class inheritance etc.

Agreed, though I would add that in terms of being a better programmer rather then Laravel Developer, you have to get really good at deconstructing frameworks. Essentially you have to understand all these tools and frameworks are just normal code that have been bundled together to give you some magic methods. If you can deep dive into frameworks with ease and understand what they do then you'll be successful.

The notion of a regulated Engineering profession really came about when some very famous bridges started to collapse under load. In response to this, there was public outrage and distrust in governmental projects such as bridges. Thus, the government conceived a program where engineering labor supply is regulated through training and association standards.

Unless software creates such a large loss of life and disruption that the public has a similar outrage. The government will not act to regulate programming. In addition, it's neither in programmers or companies best interests to be regulated (except for programmers that are good at programming and companies that would like to pay a higher price for labor in exchange for quality).

EAV pattern has trade-offs you need to compensate for (performance). Production systems that use EAV have flat tables, and heavy caching to have be flexible with acceptable performance.

PHP was built for the web and has been successful at that job. It is easy to use because the core developers have made some good design choices for the task at hand. For example no threads, stateless requests, core functionality focused on outputting HTML, etc.

MySql and PHP are good. They do the job they were designed for in a cost effective way and of course that means there will be trade offs.

Your right that you shouldn't be fixated on past mistakes, but remember you can't take back what comes out of your mouth.
cleong··on E.O. Wilson on Introversion, the Limits of IQ, and Where Ideas Come From
No doubt professionals in the investing field have done good work, highly competent and smart. I was making a reference to Warren Buffet, there was a story where he was working with very high IQ individuals that made a mistake by over-complicating the strategy behind a decision. In the end, he said that you only needed a IQ of 130, smart but not a genius.
cleong··on E.O. Wilson on Introversion, the Limits of IQ, and Where Ideas Come From
The problem with articles like this is that it's in our natural tendency to think "oh this is me". Everyone thinks they are smart and we're not particularly good at successfully finding others who are smart (hence the hiring problem in this industry ). Instead we hire based on whether someone is like us, because we think we're smart so if they like me, they are also smart.

Articles like this will perpetuate that belief. Bad soft skills? Lack of a structured lifestyle? Cannot focus? Many people will relate to these because they take effort to build.

Though Wilson touches a good point. Medium levels of intelligence is require for most jobs, even in Investing you do not need to be that bright to be "the best" in the field. Additionally, we know now that novel ideas comes from a background process in your brain that takes a lot of time and domain knowledge to develop.

cleong··on Why there is something rather than nothing – The finite, infinite and eternal [pdf]
No this is a common argument against anything involving infinite universe/ universe being infinite. If the universe has always been here how many events does it take for us to exist? Infinte. Saying beings always exist therefore beings exists is not a proof.
cleong··on Why there is something rather than nothing – The finite, infinite and eternal [pdf]
Terrible paper, it's doesn't use any process of proof (proof by contradiction etc.) It also leads to a logical inconsistencies e.g if the Universe is eternal it must take an infinite amount of time for any being to exist (since the time between the "beginning" and "now" is infinite).
cleong··on Why there is something rather than nothing – The finite, infinite and eternal [pdf]
It is a rehash of Thomas Aquina's argument and every other cosmological argument.
cleong··on Why Many Computer Science Programs Are Stagnating
agreed, in Canada software engineering is a degree that teaches you software methodology, design patterns, project management, QA/testing, and general algorithms.
