cld8483··on California AG and state senators introduce bill to ban hidden fees
I've flown with South West for years where all tickets are "no assigned seat", and I've yet to see a single person who's 'outraged' by the result. I've not even overheard grumbled complaints. This doesn't seem like a real problem to me.
cld8483··on Metal detectorist sues FBI for overnight confiscation of 7tons of Civil War gold
I'm not saying he should have taken the full 7 tons out of the ground without telling anybody. The least he could have done is excavate a small portion of the gold to prove any of it exists at all. Don't go to the feds until you have proof of at least that much. You don't need to extract all the gold to prove you found any gold.

> He suspects the agency conducted a clandestine, overnight dig between the first and second days of the court-authorized excavation, found the gold, and spirited it away.

If his claim is true and it took the government only one day and one night to extract 7 tons of gold, then it couldn't have been very deep. He should have dug some of it up. As it stands, this guy has no proof that any gold ever existed at all. He never even laid eyes on the supposed gold.

cld8483··on Microsoft is forcibly removing internet explorer from PCs
> I would love if Gnome would allow pluggable views in Files

This is essentially what Gvfs is for except basically nobody uses it, at least in the ways you describe, because forcing non-FS things into the shape of a FS usually doesn't work very well. So instead Gvfs gets used for relatively simple things that naturally map onto the FS concept well, like mounting archive files, browsing FTP, etc.

Why didn't he create proof of the gold's existence before giving the federal government an opportunity to make it all disappear?

I'll tell you why: the gold never existed, this guy is a con artist and his ploy is to pretend the government stole his gold, lose the lawsuit and claim a coverup, then raise money from people using his new "victim of the government" martyr status to make himself some sort of folk hero.

I mean come on; telling the government or anybody about the gold before you even dig it up and see for yourself? Before you even take a picture of the gold to prove it exists? Who would do that? It defies all common sense.

cld8483··on City-Builder Taken Off Steam After Fan Goes Rogue
The internet was more than fast enough for copyright infringement. Copywritten books, images, and even music were commonly shared online before the DMCA was passed.
cld8483··on City-Builder Taken Off Steam After Fan Goes Rogue
If the default most common way of complying with a law is shitty behavior, then the law itself is shitty. Good laws don't incentivize bad behavior.
cld8483··on City of Cincinnati to Close Water Intake at GCWW
An abundance of precaution seems warranted, to manage public sentiment if nothing else.
cld8483··on City-Builder Taken Off Steam After Fan Goes Rogue
I checked about half a dozen articles about this incident and none of them say the extortionist (Christopher Brady) was any sort of 'creator' or influencer. I can't find any reference to his name anywhere that describes him as any sort of content creator. I believe that claim is mistaken.
cld8483··on Did an F-22 Blow Up an Illinois Club’s Hobby Balloon?
Can you explain why the chain of command has anything to do with whether or not it should be considered an impressive technical feet for a thermal-imaging missile to lock onto a balloon?
cld8483··on Did an F-22 Blow Up an Illinois Club’s Hobby Balloon?
Who did? The worst roads in America are all (meant to be) maintained with local/state money. The road surface of the federal highways are all in a reasonable state, although many bridges are sketchy. The F-35 isn't the reason an average country road in America looks like the surface of the Moon.
