citizens··on How to Become Well-Connected
I met Chris during an Uber Pitch ride a few months back and just meeting him was a remarkable experience. Looking back, in the course of conversation he did use these "7 Rules for Making Memorable Connections" and they worked.
citizens··on Programmers are most likely to work from home
I checked a few months back in Brooklyn and it cost $550/mo for a desk with a door. No windows, and not enough room for two people to stand in...at least it made me appreciate my home office more.

citizens··on Ask HN: What sort of side-projects are useful for getting jobs?
A side project may help you land a meeting, but it won't matter during a technical interview.
citizens··on Ask HN: What sort of side-projects are useful for getting jobs?
> The latter will getyou a C-level job for an upstart if it's well executed

Could you expand on this? Are you referring to an acquisition?

citizens··on Ask HN: Recruiters specializing in remote work?
Perfect, thanks!
citizens··on Ask HN: Recruiters specializing in remote work?
I've heard of old geek jobs but hadn't checked out the site until now. Looks like a great resource, thanks.

> Recruiters work for employers

Just curious if there are recruiters who specialize in working for remote employers.

citizens··on How much does employee turnover really cost?
Well, it might help their job security (no one else knows how it runs).
citizens··on How much does employee turnover really cost?
Individual contributor (basically non-manager)
citizens··on How much does employee turnover really cost?
Well, are they working for themselves or for someone else? That has to come into play regarding motivation.
citizens··on Ask HN: What's a good developer's resume look like?
There's a typo in the last section (HMLT)
citizens··on Why I Only Work Remotely
I only work remotely, but it does really limit the pool of available work. Weworkremotely.com is a good resource.
citizens··on Why I Only Work Remotely
Here in NYC state income tax is ~6.65% and city is an additional ~3.648%. So about 10k on 100k or 20k on 200k.

> coding things that solved problems we didn't have

Couldn't this be solved by using a project management app?

Look at the commits?
citizens··on Ask HN: For new web apps what starter kit and platform do you use?
Currently MVPaaS just redirects to your backend when a user signs in. You would still need to setup a db and host the core of your app.
citizens··on Ask HN: For new web apps what starter kit and platform do you use?
I built https://mvpaas.com to solve this problem for myself. It's a hosted solution so it may not be what you're after, but it sets up my landing page, user auth, subscription management/card handling automatically.
citizens··on What it's like buying a $128k side project
Thanks for being so open with this information...makes me want to get my side projects back in gear.

Edit: Also, best of luck!

citizens··on Ask HN: When are you considered a “senior” programmer?
Not quite the same, but I found out a few months back that when I was promoted last year HR wrote it down as a demotion.
citizens··on Can Tech Tools Make Apartment-Hunting in New York Affordable?
This usually manifests itself as brokers advertising an apartment at $2,500 (for example), but in the fine print saying that's the "net effective" rent after a month or two free. Meaning once your first year lease is up you'll be paying the real price (probably closer to $3k/mo, plus a yearly % increase). Super annoying.
citizens··on Ask HN: Best resume format for auto-fill online job apps?
In my experience a lot of US job applications ask you to volunteer your ethnicity.

One example: Stripe asks if you're Hispanic/Latino: https://stripe.com/jobs/positions/engineer/apply .

citizens··on Ask HN: Why are sites now breaking login forms into stages (name then password)?
I imagine it would make it harder for bots to brute-force login credentials.

citizens··on Stockfighter's Jailbreak CTF trainer is live
"Starfighter is a new, weird kind of recruiting company. We detect and market underpriced programming talent. We do that by creating opportunities for programmers to casually and effectively demonstrate aptitude."

Having a hard time parsing this. Do you find underpriced talent and help them get paid more?
