circular_logic··on Cybersecurity is not very important [pdf]
A couple of guesses:

a. The web server hosting the tilde directories is very much likely older than the main site.

b. As any uni user can put any HTML on these directories Perhaps not supplying their certificate is an attempt to lower the success of phishing attempts for the main site logins.

circular_logic··on Fortnite teen hackers 'earning thousands of pounds a week'
I receive 2-5 emails a week with 'someone has tried to log in to your account' from Epic games. After seeing this article it makes me wonder how much prevention of brute forcing passwords Epic games are providing vs Just how persistent these kids really are.
circular_logic··on FDA Issues Warning about Security Vulnerabilities in Pacemaker Programmers
I heard stories of engineers using decades-old, unsupported and vulnerable stacks with the assumption that since it was already approved by the FDA they will have an easier time getting in though than if they tried to update their product.

Can you see the irony here.

circular_logic··on Google Maps won't let you save home address without allowing all Google tracking
That could be related to how Google maps shows political borders depending on what county you are from.

circular_logic··on Completely Silent Computer
I was wondering about these cases where the metal outside is directly connected to the CPU. Would this make it possible to kill your machine by touching it with a static charge?
circular_logic··on Top Checklists on HN
I think you can get around these problems:

Algola has something they call a DSN that runs your search backed all over the word. So you have good latency's. [https://www.algolia.com/infra]

Additionally you could bundle only what you use in there library to make the page lighter.

circular_logic··on Ask HN: Flexible, lightweight build automation/CI tool?
Circle might be nice for a small project, but I would advise away from Circle Ci for larger projects. Their feature set is immature if you want to do anything that requires a moderately complex workflow or need triggered deploys. Your builds are in a queue that can take ages sometimes. Their UI is pretty poor. For example, branches show up forever on a project even if you delete them from the repo. You actually have to ask their support to remove them.
circular_logic··on The strange magic of Swindon’s seven-in-one roundabout
Yes with populations of 9,400 and 247,600 respectively. They seem to invalidate the rest of the city from city status.
circular_logic··on The strange magic of Swindon’s seven-in-one roundabout
This is a common misconception that I stumbled upon a few months ago.

  - The cathedral requirement was only to the 19th Century.

  - Size does not matter. For example St Davids is a city with only 1,600 inhabitants

  - A city in the UK is a place that has been granted city status by the monarch.

  - You can loose city status for similar arbitrary reasons

  - London is not even a fucking city in this system!

UK city definition is perhaps one of the dumbest concepts in the UK due to its disparity with the populations expectation of actual criteria.

I think each container can have up to 8 cores. So using multiple containers to parallelise your tests is your choice.
circular_logic··on Why Use Postgres?
Is that not just plan driven development? (I.e. waterfall)
circular_logic··on Fewer mallocs in curl
I'm a C beginner so I found it quite useful. ;)

Your comment makes it sound like everyone should do this. Are there not reasons to have a non intrusive list as well? For example if the structure is used elsewhere and you don't want to tie it to that list implementation. Or if you want to point to the same structure many times in a list?

circular_logic··on A two-button mechanical keyboard that types ASCII values, one bit at a time

circular_logic··on Show HN: Directory Tags for Lazy Programmers
Looks sweet will use. Some however might be happy with using existing command "pushd" to save there current working directory that is in almost every shell ever including dos! This does have more feachures but sometimes you have enough to work with the defaults (i.e. other people machines) too.
circular_logic··on Browser auto-fill phishing
That sounds like a fantastic idea for an extention.
circular_logic··on Issue: Bitbucket relies on the Referer HTTP header
I would be interested to know as well. To add to your list. If you need to scale up to huge intsances it hurts. Repo Clones take huge amount of resources for some reason, and updates require hours of downtime to spin the cluster up again. Aparrently there development team haven't even had a very large instance for test until late 2016 so fixing there issues is likely to take time.
circular_logic··on HandBrake 1.0.0 Released
You can just use bash to make a 1:1 copy:

  sudo cat /dev/sr0 > ~/example.iso

If you are going to use a out of the box like wordpress why use a VPS instead of a hosting provider? Purely just to store your own data?
