I think developers will be paid to use AI to develop and part of that pay is to correct AI mistakes. When the AI doesn't make any mistakes is the time development takes another different turn.

Supply and demand. Unfortunately there are way more people that would rather the lower price than the ad-free.

At 100" the packaging, shipping from china, the delivery, etc. add have to be so much more than $1k.

I bought a 100" TV with setup and it was only $1600. I don't know how they make money on that with all the logistics required. Two people for delivery, two different people for the wall hanging, all the materials for the packaging, and that is just to get it to my house.

My favorite banned in CA is the "off roster" handguns that the police can buy and sell to the people of CA at a markup.

Public transport has an identity problem in the US. Trying to serve 100% of your market will result in a worse service for everyone. It needs to decide if it is for the handicap, the people that don't drive, the people that want to commute, etc.

Making fewer stops helps the commute people and those that are able bodied. It doesn't help serve the people that are handicap.

Cars also require a license.

Depending on how you use AI you can learn things a lot quicker than before. You can ask it questions, ask it to explain things, etc. Even if the AI is not ready for prime time yet, the vision of being able change how we learn is there.

The CEOs are concerned about their company. They are not worried about employing every consumer of their product.

That seems just as bad but the opposite direction.

It is investor sentiment and FOMO. If your investors feel like AI is the answer you will need to start using AI.

I am not as negative on AI as the rest of the group here though. I think AI first companies will out pace companies that never start to learn the AI muscle. From my prospective these memos mostly seem reasonable.

Using tools broadly but things like torque wrenches, AC vacuum pumps, and other specialized tools have mostly been too expensive to buy. Now I can buy a cheap version and it works good enough for most cases. It is not cheaper even with buying the tools to do the work yourself.

This is happening in other areas as well. The Chinese mini excavators and mini skid steers are changing what smaller landscape companies can do. They are not as good as a Kubota but they are 1/2 the price and 80% as good.

AI slop is similar to the cheap tools at harbor freight. Before we used to have to buy really expensive tools that were designed to last forever and perform a ton of jobs. Now we can just go to harbor freight and get a tool that is good enough for most people.

80% of good maybe reframed as 100% ok for 80% of the people. It is when you are in the minority that cares about or needs that last 20% where it is a problem because the 80% were subsidizing your needs by buying more than the need.

Who do you think is building the machines for the rich? All of these tech companies are nothing without the employees that build the tech.

It is the tech workers that have enabled all of this. Tesla, Meta, Google, X, don't run on their own. They need people that have decided to turn a blind eye to what they are enabling with their work.

You need to compare apples to apples in that 50k sale price. People are not buying Versas that are 50k

Tesla made a lot of their money selling carbon credits so it is likely some of their cars didn't break even.

Not just trucks. Almost all cars sell a lifestyle.

I find most people with critical looks at trucks have not looked at their own habits the most. Some have but I bet there are a lot of meat eaters here talking about how wasteful trucks are.

There isn't, it just appears that way. There is a subset of people that are cheering on the government in this situation and they are 2nd amendment supporters but the 2nd amendment supporters are much larger than that overlap.

Things like this is just another way of trying to drive a wedge.

What you call slop others may enjoy. Calling stuff AI slop doesn't mean it isn't someone's art.

It has not been forever true that households have had two incomes. Now it is common.

The book the two income trap describes this. It talks about better schools etc but if you are competing with people that have two incomes as an individual you better have two incomes worth of salary.

The issues starts to arise that people with two income households are more likely to lose one of those jobs and that puts a lot of pressure on the finances if you need both jobs for your house payment.

If we are talking about the general political parties it is going to be a wide brush. To the original point there are some that hate the tribalism and some will join the protests just based on their own personal views. My opinion was that it is not wide spread though because of the insults that the political parties throw back and fourth making joining a joint protest unwelcoming. Friendships across the political lines is rare.

In general the parties don't like the other party and insult each other. It is funny if you are trying to get someone to come over to your side insulting them isn't the best technique. If you are just trying to keep your base riled up insulting the other side seems to work.

It is hard to beat the polish that Plex has. I setup Jellyfin to try it out and I couldn't find a client that was smooth or had the polish of the Plex apps. The AppleTV app was close but then I go down the rabbit hole of codec support. Wanted to like Jellyfin but without a nice looking front end it was a non-starter for me. Good news is you can have the side by side and if a time comes it gets parity with Plex I will be happy to change over.

Agendas are all how you frame them and a lot of time statements at a high-level can be misconstrued.

The left and right actually agree on a lot at a high-level but do not agree on how to tackle the problem.

For me it all the build stuff and scaffolding I have to get in place before I can even start tinkering on a project. I never formally learned all the systems and tools and AI makes all of that 10x easier. When I hit something I cannot figure out instead of googling for 1/2 hour it is 10 minutes in AI.

My main concern here is attention span. I think books are good for improving the muscle of attention span. There are other places that you can improve your attention span but I fear they are not being taught in school either.

To me this is more about our reduced attention span than no upward mobility. People want instant returns now and cannot imagine building their wealth slowly. The middle class is at the top of this since they have the money to invest.

I am honestly struggling to figure out Microsoft's licensing system. We have it here and there are some on my team that want to try "CoPilot" (not even sure what that means now) but there is no licenses option for me to enable them to do that. I am sure they are targeting the larger places than my 50 person shop but it is so confusing I don't have the time in my day to figure out how to enable copilot for my team.
