chucke1992··on DOJ may want to break up Google
With iOS I think it is just enough to prohibit Apple from taking 30% cut from App Store installations. Similar how Microsoft cannot ask for 30% from any app installed in Windows (unless it is done from the store). In case of Apple, AppStore is basically Windows comparison - the only way to access "internet" so to say.
chucke1992··on More and more German trains are not allowed to enter Switzerland
great quote
chucke1992··on Japan's Nikkei Posts Biggest Single-Day Fall Since 1987 After Weak U.S. Data
this war is irrelevant. it is a low intensity conflict with no real path for further escalation (unless nukes are involved). resource potential of both countries is at a limit. so it won't fit.

Another one - Iran vs Israel but they don't have a direct border so it is also a no...

chucke1992··on Japan's Nikkei Posts Biggest Single-Day Fall Since 1987 After Weak U.S. Data
It is time for some war eh? Last time when something similar happened there was asian crisis followed by Gulf WAr, and then dotcom bubble burst following 9/11 and Iraq War.

Now we have something similar with asian crisis (including Chinese economy this time) and AI bubble.

chucke1992··on OpenAI just announced a new search tool. Its demo already got something wrong
I still believe that the best approach is the contextual search embedded everywhere - I think Microsoft's approach (and now Apple's one) is a way forward.
chucke1992··on CrowdStrike's Falcon Sensor also linked to Linux kernel panics and crashes
I mean fundamentally if Linux was used in the same use cases as Windows, it would have more issues like this. After all the scenarios of Windows are based on real world use cases.
chucke1992··on CrowdStrike Update: Windows Bluescreen and Boot Loops
Standards of what? Microsoft cannot force the third party company to test their own builds before releasing them.
chucke1992··on CrowdStrike Update: Windows Bluescreen and Boot Loops
Tooling, infra, knowledge? The only reason why people are talking about "issues in Windows" because people are widely using it.

If linux had software anywhere close to the amount that windows has, it would have experienced the same issues too. After all it is not just about running a server and tinkering with config files. It is about ability to manage the devices, rolling out updates and so on.

chucke1992··on CrowdStrike Update: Windows Bluescreen and Boot Loops
I guess Microsoft can now offer some similar to a Crowstrike solution for Azure users.
chucke1992··on What Happened to Ancient Megafauna?
It died.
chucke1992··on Azure OpenAI down in multiple regions
we had Xbox outage too
chucke1992··on Azure OpenAI down in multiple regions
I feel like Azure has been down quite often these days
chucke1992··on Windows on ARM Is Here to Stay
It does not work on Windows ARM because it is a game that was develop for a regular Windows and consoles. It is not the "app".
chucke1992··on Chinese developers scramble as OpenAI blocks access in China
But China has its own powerful models no?
chucke1992··on Windows on ARM Is Here to Stay
Not sure what this game has to do with "Microsoft shipping apps".
chucke1992··on Windows on ARM Is Here to Stay
The biggest advantage is that Microsoft somehow was able to bring a proper regular Windows to ARM devices. Now I don't if it still has the same level of BC support as x86 Windows, but still it is impressive.
chucke1992··on Microsoft Is Dead (2007)
Well at that time Microsoft really felt like IBM. Though ironically right now Google feels like IBM.
chucke1992··on Microsoft Is Dead (2007)
Nadella is extremely effective and aggressive in his moves. He always impresses me in that regard.

While Ballmer built a solid cash foundation - he would never have done a move like Linkedin or Github acquisition. And I would not be surprised if Github acquisition was a part of the plan about AI.

chucke1992··on I Received an AI Email
The future is now, old man.
chucke1992··on Chinese AI stirs panic at European geoscience society
Wasn't it the same with other AIs? Like with saw that with Gemini, copilot etc. where they was not willing to report on certain stuff or provide the response properly.
chucke1992··on Supreme Court rules ex-presidents have immunity for official acts
Aside Roman empire not being the original fascists, the fact that you portray the roman empire with its thousand years history as fascists is a twitter level take.
chucke1992··on Goldman Sachs says the return on investment for AI might be disappointing
Well it took Netflix years and years to reach the current point though.
chucke1992··on Figma defaults to train AI models on personal data
Reminds me of EULA or whatever licensing agreement that we supposed to read during installation (using wizards) but nobody ever did lol
chucke1992··on Google begs court for relief from Epic Games' Play Store demands
What store do you think Xiaomi have? * looked at my Xiaomi device * Oh, hello Play Store.

Don't know about Amazon Fire, but Amazon Android store (same with Samsung) went nowhere and has never been successful.

chucke1992··on Google begs court for relief from Epic Games' Play Store demands
Except good luck having a phone without Play Store and Google Play services.
chucke1992··on Supreme Court overturns 40-year-old "Chevron deference" doctrine
So basically now the agencies won't need to think about interpreting the law themselves?
chucke1992··on NBC to use AI version of announcer Al Michaels' voice for Olympics recaps
I guess that's going to be the future for the society where the likeness and voices will be reused over and over again using AI.
chucke1992··on Microsoft breached antitrust rules by bundling Teams and Office, EU says
Teams currently requires a separate license no? It is not free anymore with Microsoft 365.

And that's thing - if slack was actually trying to add features and integrations that users actually wanted, it would not fail that much.

I mean, Zoom succeeded without having anything except team conferencing...

chucke1992··on Microsoft breached antitrust rules by bundling Teams and Office, EU says
so "I hate teams but I use another bundled thing" lol
chucke1992··on Microsoft breached antitrust rules by bundling Teams and Office, EU says
Except the end conclusion was that "paying for a browser is stupid".
