Well, to play AI advocate, if it wasn’t destructive, you could argue they did huggingface a favor by giving them a free vulnerability scan and improving their security / hardening.
If they were Windows game developers, they wouldn’t have to touch any of that. I guess it depends on where their interests lie and what platform they developed on.
Dunno about that. I can fix a lot more stuff around the house thanks to YouTube. I have picked up a bunch of programming knowledge via the internet that I never would have without it. The internet has delivered on a lot of its promises.
iOS has gotten worse. No doubt about it. I don’t think k that’s AI induced. I think Apple have lost the plot. On the other hand, Fedora + Niri + Foot + Podman + Neovim is better with each release.
If you run it on your one app server, it’s not much more work than SQLite. SQLite requires some special care when you’re dealing with multiple processes, and backups are about the same amount of effort.
Hm. A quick search suggests that 70 countries out of 195 have daylight savings time, with a fair number of those considering abolishing it. Most of those are in Europe. 73 countries have abolished DST, and 106 have never had it in the first place.
Not 100% sure on those stats. They come from AI, and I only spot-checked it. But yeah. Most northern climate countries do currently have DST.
There are plenty of northern climate countries that get by just fine without DST. Also, if it’s genuinely a problem in a specific location for some reason, that specific location can just say, “Let’s all start work at 9 rather than 8 for the winter months” rather than impose an absolutely absurd song and dance on the entire time zone.
I’m with you, but it’s obviously a sensitive topic for a lot of folks, based on the replies. Some people’s brains are just wired differently, I guess. I rarely look at history, other than git blame. For me, history does not need to be granular at all. The replies make it sound like curating git history is the job, rather than shipping solutions to customers’ problems. I guess, if it helps you ship faster / better, more power to you.
Yeah. This is why BRK is in cash equivalents rather than being short.
Buffett has said a number of times that he never is intentionally sitting on the sidelines as a bet that things will go down. He’s simply there because he can’t find value. He’s also said that if he was dealing with millions rather than billions, he could probably find loads of value.
My guess is that is still true today, so the rest of us can probably find deals even in this market.
Yeah. This is the whole “market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent” thing. I think there’s almost always a plausible bearish case to be made. Hence: permabears.
I can see why you would think that about Jon Blow, though I disagree. But Casey? He has a number of thorough videos with plenty of evidence, and has never struck me as arrogant.
I hear this take a lot, but every app I’ve ever built was like 80% similar to every other app out there. The unique/ creative part of an app is not the bulk of it, and LLMs have been pretty good at helping me explore the 20%, too.
This underscores a huge risk of broad agentic adoption in an enterprise. Your engineers atrophy and if the agent provider decides to squeeze you, you’re SOL.
Agreed completely. It’s my favorite language in its class. I need to build something serious in it someday. So far, I’ve only used it for building personal tools.
Niri is a perfect window manager approach, in my opinion. I don’t need tmux. Just Niri + Foot (terminal) and it’s perfect for the way my brain works. If you haven’t tried it, I highly recommended it.
