christogreeff··on Microsoft to Deliver Microsoft Cloud from Datacenters in Africa
Service from Azure support has always been superb for me. What type of trial were you looking at?
christogreeff··on Visual Studio 2017 now fully supports Python and Django
Lock you in? To what? I see it as just another option (tool) of the many available tools out there. If it is better than the rest and makes it easier to build solutions, I would consider paying for it.

Parts of MonoDevelop, not just a rebrand. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=14309709
christogreeff··on Visual Studio Code 1.10
Awesome! WebDAV/TypeScript issue fixed.
christogreeff··on Raspberry Pi Zero W, with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, priced at $10
That is, if you can get someone to ship it.
christogreeff··on 3D Comics
Maybe I am getting old, but not everything should be 3D. At least not things that I have grown to love because it is not.
christogreeff··on Introducing .NET Standard
Quite a useful reference article.
christogreeff··on Microsoft aren't forcing Lenovo to block free operating systems
Selective memory is disregarding all other areas where MS is actually encouring or trying to make their products work on Linux. The future of Microsoft is not Windows. I am also not disregarding the fact that I might be wrong, but as a Windows and Linux user, it seems strange to possibly alienate potential users with a Linux blocking move.
christogreeff··on Microsoft aren't forcing Lenovo to block free operating systems
Also have this on an older Lenovo. I use it as a small server now.
christogreeff··on Microsoft aren't forcing Lenovo to block free operating systems
It was fascinating how quickly people condemned Microsoft without applying any critical thinking to the issue.

I tend to not read commments on articles anymore, where Microsoft is blamed for something. Reminds me of Slahdot.

christogreeff··on Everything I Am Afraid Might Happen If I Ask New Acquaintances to Get Coffee
Well then, no coffee for you.
christogreeff··on Microsoft's Bing Isn't a Joke Anymore
Have not used Bing on purpose for some time, but is it just me or does it feel quick snappy?
christogreeff··on Virtual Box 5.1
Has anyone done performance tests with different versions of VirtualBox? I often see entries in the changelog relating to "significantly improved performance".
christogreeff··on Is the web dying? The state of affairs in 2016
Is it just me who finds the big blocks of links, throughout the article, quite distracting?
christogreeff··on Is the web dying? The state of affairs in 2016
Consuming content from the same site, on different devices is flawed. When I know a site, and go to mobile site the experience differs so much sometimes, that it might as well be a different site. In my perception, the reason is that someone else decides what is important to me, on the smaller format.
christogreeff··on Ask HN: How do I stop myself being toxic?
Good, balanced answer.

"Very bureaucratic and slow central organisation whom I am forced to deal with." is one perception of the organisation. No way to know if this is really the case, and I would refrain using these words with colleagues. It may well be the case, but others might not experience it that way.

christogreeff··on The Monaco Code Editor
What next? Different operating systems? :) I suspect the guy just wants to get some work done.

I'm ok with whatever browser works for him, and I will choose whatever browser works for me if IE/Chrome/Firefox does not perform optimally to my own standards.

christogreeff··on Checked C
Ooh, recursion.
christogreeff··on “Ask 'why' five times about every matter”
Why?
christogreeff··on USB power supply puts 220 Mains power out on USB jack
I love the simplicity of and the humor in the Big Clive videos. The methylated spirits video was quite... hilarious. DO NOT try this! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ep2I3Gf3Sec
christogreeff··on A bird's eye view on API development
Nice read.

Sidenote: Should credit not be given for the use of the xkcd comic?

christogreeff··on The Power of the Doodle: Improve Your Focus and Memory
Agree 100% on the meetings sentence. I do the same passive listening while doodling thing. Works quite well.

christogreeff··on Hackers raid eBay in historic breach, access 145 million records
But "they" already have you personal information?
christogreeff··on Hackers raid eBay in historic breach, access 145 million records
Not sure about the US laws, but in South Africa we have the Protection of Personal Information Act (Popi) and it became law on November 26 2013.

"Popi essentially regulates how anyone who processes personal information must handle, keep and secure that information.

Personal Information broadly means any information relating to an identifiable, living natural person or juristic person (companies, CC’s etc.) and includes, but is not limited to:

contact details: email, telephone, address etc. demographic information: age, sex, race, birth date, ethnicity etc. history: employment, financial, educational, criminal, medical history biometric information: blood type etc. opinions of and about the person private correspondence etc."

christogreeff··on South Africa's Nelson Mandela dies
RIP. :(
christogreeff··on Winamp shutting down on December 20th, 2013
Started using Winamp 1.90 in 1998. Don't think I've ever played MP3s in any other application since. :(
christogreeff··on Stereogram Tetris
My gf thinks I'm crazy
christogreeff··on Norton Ghost discontinued
Laplink. Now there's some memories right there. :)
christogreeff··on Why I'm switching back to Firefox
Finding myself using Firefox more often again. Chrome is not as snappy as I once felt it to be.
