chris140957··on Show HN: Rentify – Create an online rental store
Shopify isn't specifically targeted at rentals. Rentify lets you specify what's in your inventory and will show the customer exactly when items in your store are available - so it doesn't handle things like clashing booking times
chris140957··on Show HN: Rentify – Create an online rental store
I'm not familiar with that one, but quite possibly. This isn't a unique product - there are others out there which do a similar thing. However, those are all VC-backed and quite expensive in comparison to this. This is more of a downmarket opportunity - I'm targeting smaller rental store owners who cannot accept online bookings/payments currently. This is completely bootstrapped so it's easy enough for me to position myself that way
chris140957··on Show HN: Rentify – Create an online rental store
Yes - its possible to create a pricing plan for a product with a price of zero. In this configuration, Rentify can be used completely free of charge

When you place a booking, it shows you the collection address. But you're probably right, this should be a lot more visible before you get to that stage.

The idea is that you refer customers to this site from your main website, but its still valid feedback

chris140957··on Show HN: Rentify – Create an online rental store
Yep, I suspect I'm going to have to.

I've been meaning to put up a demo store, here's a link to it: https://store.rentify.store/#/P9EuoPUMJ

I'll put this link on the landing page too, once I've added a few more products to it.

I'll update the legal docs to open in a new page

Hi, thanks for the feedback, but actually this is fully functional right now
chris140957··on Show HN: Rentify – Create an online rental store
Thanks, that's not a use case I had thought about but an interesting one
chris140957··on Show HN: Rentify – Create an online rental store
Yeah I noticed this straight after launch too.... really bad research on my part
chris140957··on Show HN: Rentify – Create an online rental store
Thanks!

There are more expensive options out there, who are VC-backed. Their pricing is much higher (like £5k per year in some cases). This is a downstream opportunity - I'm targeting small rental businesses who currently take orders via email/phone only, who wouldn't necessarily have the budget for the more expensive players
chris140957··on Show HN: Rentify – Create an online rental store
Hi, I just launched Rentify

Rentify is aimed at owners of small rental stores who currently take bookings via phone/email only but want to have a proper online store with online payments, etc. It provides card payments through Stripe and full inventory and schedule management.

Thanks for looking, Chris

chris140957··on Show HN: Maildown – markdown based email API
Thanks, Ive done a few side projects too and always end up thinking the exact same thing myself and its very frustrating. Especially when half the time, all I'm trying to do is get a user to verify their email address
chris140957··on Show HN: Maildown – markdown based email API
Hi, creator of Maildown here. I built this as a no-nonsense way to send transactional emails via an API, for those who aren't fussed about tracking clicks or playing with WYSIWYG editors, and instead just want to fire out cleanly formatted emails quickly via REST, using markdown syntax for simplicity.

Hope you like it

chris140957··on Show HN: Maildown – markdown based email API
Thanks
chris140957··on Show HN: Maildown – the right way to send transactional mails
It’s intended for transactional, but could potentially be used otherwise- hence the unsubscribe option is required for GDPR
chris140957··on Show HN: Maildown – the right way to send transactional mails
Hi, I just launched Maildown.

Maildown is a transactional email API built for developers - it does away with the WYSIWYG editors and clunky interfaces of some of the bigger email providers, instead focusing on its simple and scalable REST API, which allows you to create emails using markdown syntax

Thanks for looking, Chris

There’s always an element of randomness to the play due to the way ML works. But this sort of issue does need further work before it’s considered fully production ready
chris140957··on Show HN: Make money playing online poker with AI
Yep it’s still a fair way off, but it’s being upgraded all the time. Won’t start charging until this sort of issue goes away
chris140957··on Show HN: Maildown – super simple email API
Thanks, this is actually my second attempt at launching this - I tried and gave up fairly quickly a year or so ago. But actually I've built a few side projects in total and I've always thought this sort of service would add more value to myself then any of the other things I've built.

I think the right way to build this up is to target a niche, rather than attempt to compete with the big players, so that's what I'm hoping to do eventually

chris140957··on Show HN: Maildown – super simple email API
Emails are all sent by AWS. When you first sign up, you're sent a verification email from AWS to confirm your ownership of that address. I'm also hoping to improve this further in the near future by adding DKIM verification also.

Most of the complexity in building this app has been around preventing abuse of the service for the purpose of sending spam emails by closely monitoring what's being sent via AWS SNS.

I've changed the copy on this button now - I agree it wasn't great. The pricing page was previously only visible to logged in users (purely because it highlights the current plan, and because its the starting point of the checkout process) but I've edited this now too to make it visible from the landing page.
chris140957··on Show HN: Maildown – super simple email API
Thanks, updated the typo now, and will have a think about the image
chris140957··on Show HN: Maildown – super simple email API
We currently don't support that either - but give me one day and I'll come up with a solution for this...
chris140957··on Show HN: Maildown – super simple email API
Yep, turns out a small tweak I made to the headers was to blame. It's fixed now
chris140957··on Show HN: Maildown – super simple email API
just noticed this on Safari on iOS - checking now...
chris140957··on Show HN: Maildown – super simple email API
Thanks for the heads up, I'll get that updated ASAP
chris140957··on Show HN: Maildown – super simple email API
Hi, I just launched Maildown.

As a serial hacker, I've built a lot of small applications over the years and have always found email setup (whether transactional or marketing) to be a bit of a chore. I don't like the WYSIWYG editors or the process of manually uploading CSV contact lists that all the big email providers seem to use.

I've created Maildown to simplify this process - its just a single REST API that accepts emails in markdown syntax, and allows you to generate and send beautiful emails simply and quickly

Thanks for looking Chris

Hi, I've just launched the beta version of PokerHelper.app - its a deep-learning backed poker assistant for Texas holdem that provides recommendations for the best possible next move, given your current cards and hand situation.

Unlike other poker assistant apps that use maths to calculate hand strength, Poker Helper's use of deep learning is capable of bluffing, and is aware that other AIs may also bluff, too.

Poker Helper is currently completely free while in Beta, as the AI is not yet 100% production ready. It is currently capable of beating average human players and many other AIs, and I've managed to make some money playing poker online with this app already, but it will be refined further before the paid version is launched.

Thanks for looking, Chris

chris140957··on Show HN: Make money playing online poker with AI
Short of finding a way to see your opponents cards, I wouldn't really say it was possible to cheat at poker. This service is just one step beyond the many odds calculator apps that are available already - would you consider those cheating, too?
