chmaynard··on Mole: Deep clean and optimize your Mac
This repo has been posted on HN at least six times in the last three months. Enough already!
chmaynard··on The Quest to Replace My MagSafe Cable
This kind of thing happens to all of us. There's no point in complaining here, we've already lived it many times and we feel your pain. Regarding the magsafe cable, I have tossed away several that stopped working. Fortunately, an ordinary USB-C cable works just as well.
chmaynard··on Migrating from Legacy Networking to systemd-networkd on Ubuntu 24.04
Anyone know where the beautiful lead photo was taken?

ASML - Advanced Semiconductor Materials Lithography

EUV - Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) lithography

chmaynard··on When You Give a Bully Your Lunch Money
This amounts to a veiled threat of violence against a journalist by our President. I'm ashamed to be a citizen of this god-forsaken country.
chmaynard··on Sam Altman's pants are on fire
Nicely done! An ad hominem attack, the lowest form of discourse.
chmaynard··on Pencils, Not Stencils: A Better Way to Prune Git Branches: Fzf and a Tiny Loop
I'm confused. Does zsh run scripts written in bash?
chmaynard··on Git's First Major Release in 11 Years: What's in Git 3.0
The headline of this post is misleading. The actual headline:

Git 3.0 on the Horizon: What Git Users Need to Know About the Next Major Release

chmaynard··on [dead]
If there actually were a Fortran 77 compiler industry, it would deserve to die.
chmaynard··on Multiply your branches in a Git Worktree
I love the ideas presented in this post but the code examples need some work.
chmaynard··on Git considers SHA-256, Rust, LLMs, and more
Thanks. I was about to delete this post but your comment prevented me from doing so. Unintended consequences..
chmaynard··on We Created Turso, a Rust-Based Rewrite of SQLite
What a waste of time and effort. Why don't they try rewriting Linux? That would be the height of stupidity but at least it would be impressive.
chmaynard··on Multiple Kernels on a Single System

chmaynard··on What If OpenDocument Used SQLite?
Dr. Hipp occasionally gets on a soapbox and extolls the virtue of sqlite databases for use as an application file format. He also preaches about the superiority of Fossil over Git. His arguments generally make sense. I tolerate his sermons because he is one of the truly great software developers of our time, and a personal hero of mine.
chmaynard··on Why HyperCard Had to Die (2011)
Much more heat than light in this angry, bitter rant.
chmaynard··on Help Shape the Future of GitHub
Missing FAQ question: How much will I get paid to participate in this study?
chmaynard··on The NNCPNET email network
How to: https://salsa.debian.org/jgoerzen/docker-nncpnet-mailnode/-/...
chmaynard··on Any Benefits of Buying Apple Products from Costco?
This seems like a rather superficial discussion of a very interesting question. It doesn't discuss factors such as price or custom configurations of MacBooks, for example. Perhaps someone at Ars Technica could give us a better analysis.
chmaynard··on Doge Put Free Tax Filing Tool on Chopping Block After One Meeting with Lobbyists
Lobbyists are the scum of the earth. They are mercenaries that care nothing about the policies they advocate. I despise them.
chmaynard··on What is systems programming, really? (2018)
The author completely misses the point that the term "systems programming" is an abbreviation for "operating systems programming". His entire argument seems based on this misunderstanding. Time for a re-write.
chmaynard··on SQLite is great for what it is: a small, embedded SQL database. But nothing more
This post is pure propaganda. Nothing here of any value.
chmaynard··on Move Fast and Fix Things (2015)

chmaynard··on Pre-hype DeepSeek Liang Wenfeng profile/philosophy
Great article. Hats off to the author, Paul Mozur.

chmaynard··on [dead]
Next up: an executive order to revert the default branch name of all Git repos back to master.
chmaynard··on I deleted my social media accounts
I love this:

"Maybe I’ll go old-school and write more blog posts. Like back in the early 2000s, when you actually had to think before sharing your thoughts with the world. Sounds quaint, doesn’t it?"

chmaynard··on Git Reset vs. Git Revert
> git reset will reset the state of the branch to a previous state by dropping all the changes post the desired commit...

Not necessarily. For some reason, the author decided not to discuss "git reset --soft", which retains the changes. I use this command frequently.
