chki··on Gmail sends far more emails from conservatives to spam: study
So to give an extreme example: there would be one cohort of unsuspecting elderly people that can't recognize spam and therefore still get a lot of Spam?
chki··on Gmail sends far more emails from conservatives to spam: study
Sometimes I'm annoyed at the GDPR, especially when implementing it. But this thing just won't happen in Europe anymore, at least from my experience. Especially when writing to your local representative it's unbelievable that they are allowed to start messaging you regularly with their advertisements.
chki··on Moscow police officers stop people, request their phones to read their messages
Maybe this is different from country to country but when I open the ESA Website it says that this is an optional question that might become mandatory in the future.
chki··on Why a Russian convoy remains stalled north of Kyiv
> extract a demilitarization commitment,

How could they possibly hope to get this? A peace accord with demilitarization on the Ukrainian site would only be possible if the Ukrainians trusted Russia. But Russia did not feel bound to their former agreements on keeping Ukraine as a sovereign state. How could Ukraine be guaranteed not to be invaded completely after demilitarizating?

chki··on Are you in a Religious Cult? Take the test
I don't think there's a presupposition that you're in a cult, instead the assumption is that you are a member of a religious group.
chki··on Adblocking people and non-adblocking people experience a different web
You've just shifted the goalposts significantly and did not really reply in good faith. Showing ads is very different from linking to malware. Especially on YouTube the amount of malware is probably very low since everything is sandboxed.
chki··on Japanese game developer hasn't left the house in 10 years
> Per ITK, Nito only leaves his apartment to get a haircut and take out the trash, as well as any other activity that absolutely requires him to step outside of the comfort of his room.

So actually: "Japanese Game Developer rarely leaves his house."

I can see why they went with their own headline, though.

chki··on Boeing 777 departing Dubai nearly had a major incident after takeoff
As somebody who doesn't regularly interact with aviation I don't have an intuitive understanding of knots and feet so to me it is helpful to have these translated to units that I "understand".
chki··on Pfizer’s Covid-19 Pill is 89% Effective in Phase 2/3 Study
I'm sorry if this is inappropriate but what health reasons prevent you from getting vaccinated?
chki··on Myocarditis associated with Covid-19 compared to mRNA vaccines
> I received my 1st Pfizer vaccine in June and around 3 weeks after the vaccine I started experiencing frequent irregular heartbeats. Sometimes it was every day, then sometimes once or twice a week. I still experience ectopic heartbeat now (although much less frequently) as a result of the vaccine 6 months later.

Way before Covid I had a panic attack which led me to believe that my heart was not working properly. I got everything checked and it was all good but in the following months I regularly noticed irregularities which have since subsided. I'm almost sure that this was not due to any actual change but the main reason was that I was simply observing my heartbeat much more closely, feeling my heart racing etc. which was in turn actually making my heartbeat more irregular.

Of course your problem might be more physiological but I just want to point out that mind and body are closely connected and it's very difficult to observe such an effect and pinpoint it to a certain event (for example the vaccination).

chki··on Omicron variant more resistant to vaccine but causes less severe Covid: study
This is unclear at the moment, see also https://mobile.twitter.com/trvrb/status/1470420216232374281
chki··on Omicron variant more resistant to vaccine but causes less severe Covid: study
Making COVID extinct is unfortunately not a reasonable scenario. There will be animal reservoirs, high vaccination rates are difficult to achieve for most countries, long-term lockdowns will be hard to enforce if you're not China.
chki··on Omicron variant more resistant to vaccine but causes less severe Covid: study
Isn't that the only thing a mutation can change? What is mutating in the virus if it's not the DNA?
chki··on Who is the most accurate world chess champion?
This is addressed in the article by the way.
chki··on Bitcoin Drops $9K in an Hour
I wonder: if somebody would silently break sha256 and was able to mine an almost arbitrary amount of Bitcoin would it be unethical to do so? (Or illegal, which would probably depend on the jurisdiction)

I feel like it would be slightly unethical but on the other hand you're not really defrauding anybody. You did actually produce those blocks, not by improving your calculator but by using some other method.

chki··on Lego has designed a set that can't be taken apart
How do you know that his opinion is paid?
chki··on Germany locks down unvaccinated people, as leaders plan to make shots compulsory
Even if this was true (which it isn't) the main difference is that you have only minor "lockdown"-measures in Denmark right now which is very different compared to 2020. Vaccines push down the R-Value significantly so you can keep everything open while still having a manageable pandemic.
chki··on Germany locks down unvaccinated people, as leaders plan to make shots compulsory
Since we have a global pandemic. This is a completely novel and unusual situation, why wouldn't you think that the solutions will be novel and unusual as well?
chki··on Germany locks down unvaccinated people, as leaders plan to make shots compulsory
Increasing hospital capacities is almost pointless because new cases will be exponential. So doubling your ICU-capacities (which is extremely difficult to do, mainly because you don't have the staff) will buy you two-three weeks until the hospital is full again.
chki··on Pfizer's oral Covid-19 antiviral cuts hospitalization, death by 85%
While a vaccine is not 100% effective in preventing the spread of new cases it is at least somewhat effective.
chki··on Grand jury subpoena for Signal user data, Central District of California
Can you give more specifics? "French law" is quite broad.
chki··on Clean environment could become U.N. human right
> while China does nothing to address their environmental impact

At least it proves that this statement is untrue.

chki··on Clean environment could become U.N. human right
> Any resolution from the UN has to get approval from the security council iirc so if the US or UK object it'll never be formally adopted by the UN.

That's not correct. The general assembly can adopt resolutions and is meant to adopt resolutions by itself. Those resolutions are non-binding however.

The security council needs to agree if the resolution touches on security relevant topics. And the security council is the only UN organ that can issue binding resolutions.

chki··on Facebook-owned sites were down
If Facebook and WhatsApp and Instagram fails there are probably a lot of people checking whether their Internet works. That might be why Speedtest was overwhelmed.
chki··on Merck says research shows its Covid-19 pill works against variants
Sorry, but now who's the one shifting the goalposts?

Masks on public transport or vaccine requirements for entering another country are very small things that can have a big effect on the virus. It's unreasonable to demand a "pure" response to the virus.

chki··on Will the next German parliament have a gigantic size? A law and coding challenge
Search for "Bundesversammlung" (the constitutional body that elects the German president) to see some pictures of the Bundestag with 1260 seats. It's pretty crowded.. but not impossible. Although I doubt that they would have all these chairs permanently in the Bundestag.
chki··on Will the next German parliament have a gigantic size? A law and coding challenge
That's not correct, the upper limit is much higher. If you win 299 districts and get 0.1% of the party vote, the Bundestag needs enough seats to properly represent 99.9% of the other parties. So you basically (it's somewhat more complicated in practice) need to multiply 299 by 999 to get the proper amount of seats..
chki··on Will the next German parliament have a gigantic size? A law and coding challenge
No, the US did not write the German constitution. It was written by German politicians and lawyers. The Allied forces definitely had an influence on the constitution and requested certain things to be in the constitution (human rights, federalism). But the constitution is definitely a properly "self-made" document (building on existing constitutions in other democratic states and the Weimarer Reichsverfassung).

Edit: also, it would be absolutely impossible to "simply take the German constitution and apply it to the US". To somebody who knows a bit about constitutional law that's like saying "the computer isn't working, let's just use this bicycle instead."

chki··on Record number of environmental activists murdered
I don't think anybody is arguing whether killing innocent activists is wrong. But the implications of the headline are different if the increase in murders correlates with an increase in activism. That could for example imply that activists are murdered for being activists and not for being environmental activists specifically.
