chewz··on The beginning of scarcity in AI
We are processing same data for the last 2 years.

Inference prices droped like 90 percent in that time (a combination of cheaper models, implicit caching, service levels, different providers and other optimizations).

Quality went up. Quantity of results went up. Speed went up.

Service level that we provide to our clients went up massively and justfied better deals. Headcount went down.

What's not to like?

chewz··on Ask HN: How do you maintain flow when vibe coding?
Quantity have quality of it own. Or in case of Code Assistants - speed.

Use Opus fast, Codex-Spark or Cerebras. No more spinner starring. Instant results. One project at time.

chewz··on AI Will Be Met with Violence, and Nothing Good Will Come of It
Keeping lid on boiling peasants rage have always been chief qualification of aristocracy.

Plus I don't believe in violence from tech bros and white collar workers - they have been raised too docile...

chewz··on [dead]
To my country and my generation US have broght freedom, democracy and unlimted growth. It did so by breaking the neck of muredrous totalitarian regime and central planing economy we have all been living under for 50 years.

USA have also delivered - freedom of travel anywhere I can immagine. And for the last 30 years have sponsored our way of life with cheap oil and free trade routes.

Whatever is going on right now, I am still grateful for all the good things.

chewz··on The Strait of Hormuz Oil Shock Is Now Heading West
You could also say that US finally finished with subsidizing Europe's and other allies lavish lifestyle... (via cheap oil and open trade routes).

No more cheap vacations abroad, cheap food, cheap goods from far away..

I bet we will see $400 oil...

chewz··on The engine of Germany's wealth is blocking its future
Agreed. No plans to buy German car anytime soon.
chewz··on “Microslop” filtered in the official Microsoft Copilot Discord server
Siri
chewz··on Khamenei Dead
Ursula is next? US doesn't like European leadership either...

Would be fun to see Ursula before judge in NY soon.

chewz··on Show HN: An OpenAI API compatible server that uses GitHub Copilot SDK for LLMs
Very nice :)
chewz··on Show HN: Agent Skills Leaderboard
You are welcome. I have myself picked up this trick reading through Reditt and later polished that myself. No official guide is suggesting that
chewz··on The Agentic AI Handbook: Production-Ready Patterns
Some people shouldn't just be engineers in the first place, I guess.
chewz··on Show HN: Agent Skills Leaderboard
Create a hook that would ask Claude Code to evaluate all skills in the project and decide which are applicable to the current task at hand. It is easy and works very well.

Forget Claude.md

chewz··on GLM-4.7-Flash
Never had any problems with Z.ai models.

However they are using more thinking internally and that makes them seem slow.

chewz··on Macron to urge EU to use trade 'bazooka' in response to Trump's tariffs
It is posturing for internal effects.

The position of Europe vs USA is analogous to Greek States vs Roman Republic. Good art and lifestyle but nothing in terms of military and economic power.

When Roman Republic got more authoritarian (transforming to Roman Empire) - Greek states had lost the remnants of its independence.

Being a satellite state works that way.

The issue is that in terms of military and economic power EU used to be much stronger 20 years ago and that strength have been deliberately wasted by current generation of politicians still in power.

Political class in Europe made multiple wrong choices in the last years despite warnings.

chewz··on The Suicide Pact: what happens the moment we invade Greenland
https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2025-09-02/does-e...

As for SWIFT it is US executive branch that decides who to take off the system

chewz··on Google's "AI Ultra" Is a Storage Plan Disguised as a Dev Tool
You are looking for Gemini Standard Edition that for $300 gives you $1000 API credits among other perks.

Gemini CLI still isn't usable though despite higher limits.

chewz··on The Suicide Pact: what happens the moment we invade Greenland
It is not possible. Europe's financial markets are the size of Europe's military.

Europe needs US financial markets (dollars) to finance its debt as all European bank together could fit into JP Morgan.

Switching away from SWIFT or Visa/Mastercard is also improbable as Europe lack tech skills to run such complex systems.

chewz··on Gemini CLI tips and tricks for agentic coding
The problem is that Gemini CLI simply doesn’t work. Beside simplest of tasks like creating new release it is useless as coding assistant. Doesn’t have a plan mode, jumps right into coding and then gets stuck in the middle of spaghetti code.

Gemini models are actually pretty capable but Gemini CLI tooling makes them dumb and useless. Google is simply months behind Anthropic and OpenAI in this space!

chewz··on Some compare Democratic socialism to communism, Here's how the movements differ
I remember another story about 30-something outsider coming to large city with a radical message that upper-class Jews should stop accumulating wealth because it makes lower classes dispossessed.

So that could go both ways.

chewz··on What predicts involuntary singlehood: effects of self-esteem/desirable traits
Isn’t self-esteem a function of testosterone?
chewz··on Brexit reduced UK GDP by 6-8%, investments by 12-18% [pdf]
Surely replacing neoliberalism with social democratic sharia sectarian state will bring prosperity to all. There are so many examples of succesful, prospering countries that have choosen this path in the East. Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Pakistan, Indonesia...
chewz··on Poland's birth rate is in freefall. A loneliness epidemic that cash can't solve
Just keep in mind that since 22 Poland have hundreed thousands of Ukraine refugees - mostly lineky women. Just check on Tinder.
chewz··on AI's impact looks more like the washing machine than like the internet
I have listened recently to other argument on Hidden Forces podcast.

Washing machines made Great Recession particularly brutal. Washing other people's laundry used to be popular way to supplement home budget when the man of the house lost his job. In 1930 better off people already had washing machines so one way of falling back on doing other people laundry have been eliminated.

Soon some people may find out that some bullshit jobs do not exist anymore.

chewz··on Now open for building: Introducing Gemini CLI extensions
Watching Gemini CLI repo daily is great insight into how Google works. Tons of commits, three release channels, great ambitions and very little to show. These guys are running in all directions and getting nowhere.
chewz··on Gold Prices Top $4k for First Time
You have ommited many other occurences I know of - in Roman Republic, Venice Republic etc. Most of these republics were oligarchic in nature and charged richest citizen substantial extra tax when in need or in danger. Roof tax in Rome is one example.

Upper classes paying for unusual/emergency expenses of the state. Unthinkable now.

chewz··on Zed's Pricing Has Changed: LLM Usage Is Now Token-Based
I have never used Zed predictions but $20 for 500 prompts is quite a good deal. I use it mostly with Opus for some hard cases.
chewz··on AI coding
> The problem is that junior developers are what we make senior developers with— so in 15 years

In 15 years senior developers will not be needed as well. Anyway no company is obliged to worry about 15 years timescale

chewz··on Life, work, death and the peasant: Rent and extraction
> optimizing for values we have today like freedom, balance of power and equality of opportunity.

You are confusing narrative, a positive spin with actual rules of the system. In political system they are never the same.

Freedom, equal opportunity etc are not objectives of our political system, they are just the narrative.

chewz··on Administration will review all 55M visa holders for deportable violations
Ostracism was core of Athenian democracy, and yes it was politicized often.

No democracy for enemies of democracy.

chewz··on Sequoia backs Zed
Zed isn’t just a text editor. It is the only working platform for code assistants.

Neither Google nor Claude nor anyone can’t at the moment get right basic operations like file edits. Zed is flawless in co-operating with most LLM models. And not just that - also switching models during conversation and more.

I am at Zed Pro at $20 but when Zed offers $200 Max plan I will sign up right away.
