chews··on South Korea seeks death penalty for ex-president Yoon over martial law bid
Downvoted so I'll just leave these here -

"There are rumours that I am in a cult, or that there was a performance of a ritual in the Blue House, but this is not true at all.”

chews··on South Korea seeks death penalty for ex-president Yoon over martial law bid
South Korea really loves their drama, the previous President was under the spell of a cult leader and 300 people (mostly children) were likely intentionally drowned in a ferry "accident".
chews··on Ask HN: ADHD – How do you manage the constant stream of thoughts and ideas?
weed and booze.
chews··on Show HN: Play poker with LLMs, or watch them play against each other
Grok knows that pocket Jacks are a fast way to go broke.
chews··on Flock Hardcoded the Password for America's Surveillance Infrastructure 53 Times
There should be no "Fairness to Flock" they're building the panopticon. Freethinking Americans should do what they can to dismantle this overreach, lobby their city leaders with their poor track record on security and thereby safety.
chews··on Mitsubishi Delica Is the Smallest Camper Van You'll See in 2026
I've been in New Zealand for the last few weeks (actually posting this from a beachside campground) and holy smokes is the Delica a cool vehicle (previous model years... there isn't a 2020's mini here) I will say there there are a TON of cool small campers from japanese automakers I've seen on this trip. Protectionist measures like the chickentax really make it obvious that the US is propping up a bunch of terrible auto manufacturers and if it really allowed capitalism (actual competition) the US automotive industry would be fully cooked.
chews··on Google AI Studio is now sponsoring Tailwind CSS
they had over 2M in revenue in 2024... then AI happened and it likely dried up, they staffed up during the boomtime and now are rightsizing based on the change of landscape.
chews··on Revisiting the original Roomba and its simple architecture
It was remarkably easy to hack, the brilliant human Tod Kurt (todbot) did amazing work hacking them and documenting how to do it. Using his insights, I wrote a little bluetooth library/app for the Mac that would forward movement commands from a Wii remote to a hacked on bluetooth serial adapter connected to the Roomba... WSJ even did a piece on it. https://archive.ph/A6aTlI

The day after Christmas I was front-page of Digg, Gizmodo, and Slashdot at the same time :-)

chews··on Microsoft kills official way to activate Windows 11/10 without internet
Finding more modern ways to be lame and making it easier for folks to either pirate (use shady activation methods) or move to other platforms.
chews··on Daft Punk Easter Egg in the BPM Tempo of Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger?
Daft Punk are totally of the smart sort to do this kind of easteregg. They're just a clever band, another fun Daft Punk easter egg, they were in a band with Phoenix called Darlin'. (Daft Punk got their name from a review of the Darlin' record)
chews··on Sweden Steps Up Efforts to Reverse the Decline in Cash Usage
good to know, the first time I stepped into a sweetgreen was pre-covid and that was the last time I stepped into a sweetgreen.
chews··on Former ULA President and CEO Tory Bruno Joins Blue Origin
Getting that sweet sweet never-ending DOD moneygun to go brrrrrrrr.
chews··on Seven diabetes patients die due to undisclosed bug in Abbott's glucose monitors
I worked at medtronic in the early 2000's (early paradigm pumps) and were evaluating wireless protocols and security... at the time we determined it was impossible to secure, once the FDA approved another device maker that did have connectivity there was a scramble to catch up. (this was palmos/pocketpc era). It was fun work but I always remembered how insanely detailed the code was, 8bit low power microcontrollers (some 16bit) but really really really tight C code. Then the demand for remote control happened and that really crapped the bed. https://www.medtronic.com/en-us/e/product-security/security-...

The amazing developer Scott Hanselman built on a PalmOS app to store readings and if I recall correctly wore 2 pumps with fast/slow insulin... he had a cybernetic pancreas in the mid-2000's.

chews··on Choosing the Right Python Docker Image for Finance Workloads
No these are knuckle dragging finance types bruh... the fact that they aren't using things like Cython for more performance is an indicator this isn't Jump Trading.
chews··on Dasharo TrustRoot Ephemeral Key Incident
NovaCustom is the EU version of a https://puri.sm laptop. it's got an open boot loader and a TPM for supporting OS's that require it like Windows 11.
chews··on Show HN: Lamp Carousel – DIY kinetic sculpture powered by lamp heat (2024)

chews··on Sweden Steps Up Efforts to Reverse the Decline in Cash Usage
NYC forced cash acceptance starts in 2026…
chews··on Weight-loss pill approval set to accelerate food industry product overhauls
Pharma tail wagging the food dog. It’s a sad fact that GLPs are changing food costs. Humans are strange animals.
chews··on Sweden Steps Up Efforts to Reverse the Decline in Cash Usage
This is a humanities problem, sure those of us on HN are comfortable in a cashless society. That doesn’t translate to older generations of people. Cash is a fundamental part of a developed society, we should have privacy, fungibility, and large scale acceptance.

I hate that food shops like sweetgreen are cashless, just because the they can’t trust their tellers is not a reason to outright refuse the ability to purchase.

chews··on Show HN: Vibium – Browser automation for AI and humans, by Selenium's creator
big virtual hugs for @hugs... thank you for the Christmas gift of fewer keystrokes :-)
chews··on X-ray: a Python library for finding bad redactions in PDF documents

chews··on We Lost Something: 1970s REPLs Were Better Than Modern Development Environments
I run jupyter in a docker container and have the ability to just checkpoint it, it would work for any language that runs a REPL. The gotcha's are any GPU state stuff or any database/socket connections.
chews··on Anthropic Acquires Bun
I thought that was sarcasm, but nope, at least they are honest and the VC probably really made out well.
chews··on "Have your best baby" ad campaign
As a new dad, this is a really tone-deaf marketing campaign. Babies aren't designer shoes and this is a gross way to talk about making them. Have your best luck dealing with the backlash.
chews··on FBI Agents Visit Anti-ICE Protester: "Your name was brought up."
Flock security now get's Ring camera data so the YC sponsored panopticon is pretty much here now.
chews··on Be Careful with Obsidian
always nice to see the CEO doing evangelism work. Keep it up my man :-)
chews··on Be Careful with Obsidian
I've known kepano (their CEO) for almost 20 years, he is an incredible builder and a solid human. My hunch is they would never act in an unsavory way to their users. I get that the point it could be more open (a community build would be slick), and yet it's an incredible product and worthy of financial support. I am glad to be a user and love that it's a part of my daily workflow.
