In real life, your cheese collection may not persist either if you leave it in some random chest in a shop ;)
cheiVia0··on Apache Performance: Disable .htaccess here's why
Found this: https://thomaslohner.github.io/slides/Performance-Myths/

...looks to be at least +10% performance difference without .htaccess with basic static html. Probably more with many lines of rewrite rules.

cheiVia0··on Shyness: small acts of heroism
Well done for publishing this! As I'm sure you know intellectually (but probably find extremely difficult to actually believe), telling people about it has drawn them closer to you, not pushed them away. There's so much here that resonates with me, and examining my reaction to your writing, I feel more inspired to discuss my own anxiety with the people close to me.
cheiVia0··on Shyness: small acts of heroism
Is being afraid of the potential consequences a good enough reason to become a hermit? Because that's what many shy people do, while desperately wishing there were some other way.

It takes repeated reminders, constant effort and, above all, an unaccustomed determination to take social risks, for shy people to push past the idea that embarrassment, or other people's anger, or some other negative consequence, is reason enough to avoid engaging. More often than not (in my experience, anyway) these fears are completely overblown. And even knowing that, and seeing the imagined disaster not coming to pass, it's still an uphill battle to take the next risk.

But even in the rare cases where some fear turns out to be justified, having someone get upset with you, or laugh at you, is not the end of the world that anxiety will try to tell you it is. It's certainly not a good enough reason to doom yourself to unwilling solitude.

But the government can also mandate frequent STD tests and safety reqirements. AFAIR Netherlands, where prostitution is legal, has the lowest STD rates.
cheiVia0··on 64-bit Orange Pi – A Quad Core Computer for $20
While AllWinner provides dismal driver support, there's quite a big third party effort to get proper mainline support for their chips (Free Electrons being the biggest contributor, I think).

A good reference of what you can expected can be found here:

http://linux-sunxi.org/Linux_mainlining_effort

Of course it takes time to clean it up into a mainlineable state. Some years ago I got a "Cubietruck" (A20) and it was somewhat disappointing - the gigabit ethernet (which was the selling point for me) only got to only about double of 100Mbit, using up one of the two cores. It would also have network connections hang once in a while.

This spring I dusted it off and managed to install the latest mainline kernel, and with the exception of onboard NAND (not really necessary since it has SATA), everything I care about works perfectly. I get proper gigabit without CPU stress, and everything is rock stable.

tl;dr: it's worth looking at older devices of they fit your need

cheiVia0··on Nvidia adds telemetry to latest drivers
Ever since AMD put in the effort into open source Linux drivers, I've been only buying Radeon GPUs. This is a reminder of why I don't want to rely on proprietary drivers.

No, just get up earlier and leave work earlier.
cheiVia0··on Time to Dump Time Zones
When you eat lunch (or if you eat it at all) is completely cultural. It should not be used for encoding time.
cheiVia0··on Time to Dump Time Zones
Workdays are not worth keeping either. With the gig economy, you can't know if someone works at night or during the day, or morning or Sundays or whatever.

For almost any project there is an infinite amount of work to do. Check out OpenHatch for opportunities, or just dive in for things you rely on. Big communities are great too, checkout Linux or one of the distros:

Mozilla actually manually reviews the extensions and updates to the extensions, and would reject obfuscated code. See for example:
