What's funny is MacBooks don't require 20V. I've never tried with an iPhone charger, but I've definitely charged MacBooks overnight with a common 12W iPad charger (using one of those USB-A-to-C cables).
Yep, I've worked from coffee shops and in trans-European trains where I couldn't get a power lead. No matter, a 25,000 mAh battery is sure to get you through the day. USB-C charging is absolutely fantastic.
I have a MacBook Pro, which hasn't been available with a matte display for ages. So I ordered a generic matte screen protector. If you wear a black t-shirt and sit in the shade, it's entirely possible to work outside.
Battery life can be greatly extended with decently sized external USB-C batteries.
> Chase has about 5 different ways / pages you can enter your login credentials
If they had 5 different ways, that'd be one thing. Lately, I've been seeing different domains. For example the marketing department registers a domain such as AcmeExclusives.com.
A slowdown when you run an app for the first time, for security reasons -- I wouldn't categorize that as a "gigantic embarrassing flub". I haven't noticed it, actually. But I don't run new apps every day.
I've noticed the negativity on macOS. There may be reasons for it, I don't know. I'm pretty happy with it and I've started skipping some discussions because of the amount of comments that lack any curiosity, or worthy discussion.
Recently I wrote a script in Swift, on macOS. It can be developed and run without Xcode, in plain vi if you so wish. It's pretty great, and I liked it a lot.
From what I gather from friends, these Tile trackers actually hardly work. At least here in The Netherlands. The phone doesn't actually register the last spot where you left your device, it's often outdated. And the idea that other Tile users will help in tracking, also doesn't seem to work in practice.
Even if you have other posts beside Tesla, the HN guidelines say "Please don't use Hacker News for political or ideological battle. That destroys the curiosity this site exists for." Although constantly criticizing Tesla may not fall under political or ideological battle, it certainly doesn't hold any curiosity.
Nowadays, I don't feel anymore like I need to compete professionally. I've got a decent savings account, half my house is paid off, my family is healthy, and work is interesting. Why would I need to compete with anyone?
Meaning, the screen is always split in two. On both sides, there's a directory shown. All commands (copy, move, etc.) now instantly have a target (namely, the other side).
In my opinion, the integration between Objective-C and Swift is so incredibly seamless, that there's no need to translate existing Objective-C code.
When I started working at my current client, there was a huge existing Objective-C code base to talk to an internal HTTP API. I just started coding. When I needed to add functions, I subclassed Objective-C classes in Swift.
To specify, it does contain what SwiftUI calls a List. And each row in the list can of course contain a number of widgets, so you can approximate a table.
However for the desktop, a good real table, with columns, would be nice.
The Swedish approach places the onus on the at-risk demographics to isolate themselves. If you are worried about your parents (and I would be), then I'd help them in their self-quarantine.
No to both of these. There are only three fields, and they must all be filled in: URL, username, password. But suppose your bank is HSBC, you could, make up something like "securityquestion://www.hsbc.com", "mom's name", "Jane Doe".
Not parent but I think I made the step too early. Since I got my MacBook Pro in 2016, I decided to replace my cables with USB-C versions. That's all very nice, but now I prefer new hardware to have as much USB-C ports as possible.
> How anyone could even hypothetically arrive at this result is beyond me
Well, for a handful of commits, it's very easy to do a "manual binary search" for the commit that caused a bug. Not the OP but that's how I read the comment.
Well, it's very good hardware, very stable software (in my experience), and you can drop to a terminal.
It's excessively expensive though. It's a business expense for me, but otherwise I would've bought one of those laptops that come with Linux pre-installed.
