ceayo··on Parental controls aren't for parents
I am opposed to the whole concept of these "parental controls". Instead of a bond of trust, between a parent and their child, the surveillance economy has gave us the ability to experience the top of the surveillance pyramid ourselves. As Google and Meta spy on the world, we spy on little Timmy. In fact, you are a bad parent if you don't spy on little Timmy. I really can't wrap my head around how asking "how was your day" has evolved into "I saw on your GPS tracker you walked a different route to school today... Do you have something to tell me?" If you look at everyone who is now joining the work force and all, the coming generations, you'll see the thing they lack most is independence.

So after reading a link from here from yesterday I decided to make my own implementation for checking evenness of numbers, and making it more optimized.

> We can limit the damage before it's too late.

Maybe we should begin by waiting to see the scale of said so-called damage. Right now, there have maybe been a few incidents, but there are no real rates on "oh x people kill themselves a year from ai" and as long as x is still that, an unknown variable, it would be foolish to speed through limiting everybody for what can be just a few people.

> debate

> non-democratic country

My guess is there will be no debate... That said, we must acknowledge even having this debate is a positive step.

> and nowadays they have the infrastructure to forward all traffic to law enforcement's servers in real-time.

The goal should be, designing your infrastructure in such a way they simply cannot forward this traffic to law enforcement.

ceayo··on Where do the children play?
Don't you think AI, for example, will just be another facet of de-industrialization? I think the way we are headed now, this loop will only grow bigger...

> even in the sum example, you see the statement "N is n-1"

That wasn't actually what the example said. It said N1 = N - 1, and continued using the N1 value somewhere else. In that example, no actual mutation occured.

> The Bitbucket repo looked professional. Clean README. Proper documentation. Even had that corporate stock photo of a woman with a tablet standing in front of a house. You know the one.

The image looks like AI to me...

ceayo··on Ofcom fines 4chan £20K and counting for violating UK's Online Safety Act
Maybe they can take some inspiration from North-Korea, I heard their intranet is great!
ceayo··on Ofcom fines 4chan £20K and counting for violating UK's Online Safety Act
the problem is this is affecting people outside of the UK too...
ceayo··on Leaked Apple M5 9 core Geekbench scores
Why would it have 9 cores? Feels a bit weird to have an (a) uneven and (b) not a power of two amount of cores on a processor.
ceayo··on Offset Geometric Contact (OGC)
Looks really nice. Can't wait for this method to be adopted by programs like blender and godot.
ceayo··on If you are harassed by lasers
Sad to see these guides are needed.
ceayo··on Open Social
Maybe AT over TOR? A hidden domain / onion address is totally free... I would supporting this a really nice enhancement to the protocol.
ceayo··on Open Social
Wow, I always imagined Activitypub to be the better protocol and AT a cheap knock-off, but reading this article made me realize at is, actually, way better - primarily because multiple programs can access the same identity. This is really a great feature to have! This article was a real mind-opener for me.

ceayo··on Raspberry Pi 500+
The 20 dollar minicomputer has now become the 200 dollar rgb keyboard. Still, I’ve tried and using a raspberry pi as a desktop computer but everything is so impractical. Maybe the pi 5 is better, but I do not believe it’ll ever replace normal desktop computers. Raspberry Pi’s started as a small board which you can even run Linux on, with low power consumption, so toucan run it day round for services like home assistant. In my opinion, it should stay that way.
ceayo··on Find SF parking cops
Nice apple-like design, looks really good! Especially those three dots in the top-left.
ceayo··on x402 — An open protocol for internet-native payments
More crypto and more microtransactions - look what a place the web has become... I don't see why we can't just happily hobble along our free cute little information highway and why capitalism has nowadays infused the internet with a rage for money-making.
