Thank you for these. I've been subscribed to Julia's blog for many years. Excellent resource.

buckminster: We'll create a static frontpage in the future without the need for the click. And we'll also keep the easy-to-login feature for existing users.

bachmeier: I hear you. If you like Pinboard I suggest using that. It is a great service and I'm a paying member of that as well.

The justification for the pricing is rather simple; It is 2019 and life isn't cheap so we wanted a fair price that would allow us to make Unmark a sustainable platform for a long time to come. Because the free tier is fairly generous, and because it is open source, we know our subscriber numbers will be very low. Perhaps only "superfans" of Unmark will purchase a subscription. But if they do, we want it to cover the costs of running the platform.

No worries Kovah. I hope you find a tool that suits your needs and you love it!

Thank you for the feedback jlese. I am a fulltime Firefox user! So, oddly the entire app is built using Firefox primarily. What glitches are you seeing?

Side note to all in this thread: There are definite issues on iOS 13 on iPhone and iPad that we already are working on for the next point release. Examples include a weird bar that shows up at the top of iPad in landscape mode, and on iPhone the search bar doesn't show up. These issues started with iOS 13 I believe. These will be addressed very soon!

Good feedback, thank you.
cdevroe··on Show HN: Unmark 2.0
Hi! We've _just_ published Unmark 2.0 that adds tag autocompletion, easier bookmark editing, and more. Completely free to try and totally open source (2.0 is in a PR at the moment, but feel free to nab it). Paid accounts are available, they support future updates (we've made 7 significant updates this year) and you unlock search and import/export, etc.

Would love your feedback HN. Unmark has been a labor of love for a few years. It doesn't make much at all but I use it every single day and want to continue to do so.

Thanks I didn’t know that.

Happy to see my project Unmark in there. :)
cdevroe··on What are your four hobbies?

I agree. However, I think I'll use this for debugging my applications rather than relying on it to see how our users will see our apps.
cdevroe··on Paid Vacations for Freelance Designers and Developers
We agree that our page is very light on what we actually can provide. We just started picking up client work recently, after having built two products (Barley and Unmark) that haven't yet made it to profitability (close!!). Our backgrounds are such that we have a very wide range of skills.

We're going to update our site over the coming months to include a portfolio and also try to be very specific on the type of work we excel at.

cdevroe··on Paid Vacations for Freelance Designers and Developers
What do you mean "after a couple of days you will never see them again"?

To be completely honest, we're not-so-great at finding new work. Word of mouth is about all we've had any luck with. So we thought this a new and interesting idea on how to drum up contacts and work. Maybe it will be good, maybe not. But we're giving it a try.

cdevroe··on Paid Vacations for Freelance Designers and Developers
So far we've asked our customer to manage the relationship, bill the customer, etc. We get a cut of the estimate -- we do not do the estimating.

Also, if our client isn't happy we don't get paid.

cdevroe··on Paid Vacations for Freelance Designers and Developers
We have in-house designers and developers. If we get more work than we can handle we have a few trusted designers and developers that we've worked with to help us keep up.

I've been looking for an application like this for a while now. I had toyed with a few that simply didn't fit. Now I have an application that will help me plan kayaking trips, vacations, events, etc. Great work!

This is great. Well done Stripe.

Thanks for letting us know! We'll fix it up.
cdevroe··on A case for something, anything more simple than WordPress
jinushaun: We agree. Sort of our company mantra is "we have a passion for saying no" which means, to us at least, that we think we have the ability to say no to new features that do not fit who we think our target is. Time will tell if we're able to do it.

That being said, all software and services as they age begin to suffer from scope creep and feature bloat. Then it will be time again for something new.
