cbp··on The shittiest project I ever worked on
This is why:

1. You should spend more time designing (away from the computer) so that you find a _problem_ and then come up with a reasonable solution. Instead of putting together a list of features. (see Rich Hickey's talk "Hammock-driven development").

2. Think of the sum you're going to charge for your consulting and then multiply it by 4 and charge that because you have to take risk and other factors into account.

cbp··on Edward C++Hands
Why do you group C with C++?
cbp··on To my daughter's high school programming teacher
I had a pretty bad experience in highschool (and elementary school) because of a small deformity on my face that I was born with. That didn't make me hate programming because I was getting bullied on programming classes. In fact it made me love it more because it doesn't have to be a stupid social activity. It did make me hate school up to the point that I got "expelled" from college for skipping classes. If the author is so concerned with her daughter being pulled away from a profession that she claims to like then work harder at home. Or you know, not assume that her daughter is an impressionable idiot and let her choose whatever she wants.
cbp··on Shall We Use Clojure?
I do consulting for small businesses around where I live (Mexico). And since like 3 months ago I switched to clojure and I couldn't be happier. I used ruby then python before. Now there is one minisupermarket doing billing and inventories and backups and charging customers with clojure in Mexico and that number is looking to grow!
cbp··on GNU Emacs 24.1 released
Someday there will be a version where the new feature will be an actually useful wiki :p
cbp··on Hang Around with People who Get Shit Done
People like to throw around this kind of advice often. Hanging around people who "get shit done" is a privilege that not everyone has. What happens when you go to a cheap college in Mexico where none of the computer science teachers have ever worked in a large scale application and most haven't even written one in their lives? How do you apply this advice when 90% of your classmates can't read a sentence of english and learning something unusual like python and deploying a toy app on some server not only puts you ahead by miles of the rest of your class but also of the rest of your entire generation? Some communities don't have this kind of people. Is someone in this position supposed to ditch everyone around him/her?
cbp··on Lots of new Coursera classes throughout 2012 posted
Great, I was wondering if they were going to repeat graphical probabilistic models since I missed it.
cbp··on The Girls Around Me App Takes Creepy to a New Level
