cbovis··on EveryoneAPI
This really needs a better brochure site. The actual purpose of the service is hidden at the bottom left:

"EveryoneAPI is a simple data service that provides business developers with the easiest and most comprehensive way to access telephone data on the web."

Even then it's pretty obscure. Are we talking worldwide? US only? What's the data source?

So if I randomize my entire library now I'm getting songs I don't necessarily want?
cbovis··on Spaced Repetition is Awesome
Skritter has a whole bunch of curated lists out of the box including those for popular text books and academic levels. You are paying a premium for its use though (£10 a month).

I can testify to the benefits of SR apps too after using Skritter to improve Chinese reading and writing. Once you get the ball rolling you quickly find yourself easily memorising characters and in some cases even predicting the formation of characters you've never met before. For anyone who wants to learn written Chinese or Japanese I would highly recommend it!

That said though, for learning the spoken language there's no substitute for communicating with native speakers on a regular basis. SR tools simply help as an additional tool to speed up your spoken learning or help with reading/writing.

I can't work out if this is waterproof as standard or with the waterproof casing accessory. Any ideas? Is it perhaps just splash proof without the casing?

Also I wonder if it floats in water... would be great for chucking around the pool.

The comments people put on those kind of posts scare me more than the posts themselves! I think you can tell a lot about what's wrong with our society and the root of a lot of our problems from internet comments..
cbovis··on Ask HN: Macbook Air or Pro for Visual Studio dev machine?
Generally if I'm in my dev environment then it'll be Visual Studio, SQL Server and a web browser that's typically open.

The battery is a definite win for the Air, do you know if it gets similar battery life in Bootcamp? I know there are optimizations in OS X designed to improve battery..

I originally thought that weight might give the Air an advantage since I'll be carrying it every day but it seemed like a non-issue when I went into Stormfront so I'm tied!

cbovis··on Ask HN: Macbook Air or Pro for Visual Studio dev machine?
I'll be looking at running it as OS X primarily since I'm heavily in that ecosystem and prefer it to Windows, I'll just be bootcamping from time-to-time for my .NET development :)

That's interesting to know, does the Pro perform well with XCode or is it so-so? I'm interested in looking into iOS dev with the release of Swift so XCode is something else I'll need to keep in mind.

Love this, reminds me of the silhouette iPod adverts.

Can anyone point out a good introduction to some of the methods used in the article? Terms such as the p-value, treatment effect etc.
