You don't get to proclaim something ethical and then move along. That's close-minded and ripe for abuse.
It's easy to think of good arguments for Twitter being ethical and unethical.
If someone proposes to me that murder isn't ethical, I can more-or-less get on board with that without a bunch of defining and qualifying. You're talking about software though. To suggest that Open Office is ethically superior to MS Office is not at all self-evident or the general consensus of most people.
It comes off as you being oblivious or close-minded to competing ideas of ethics, which doesn't lend credibility to your use of the term.
Sounds like you answered your own question.
Wether that's wise or not is definitely up for debate. I think we'd be much better off instilling a higher value for privacy than we'd be trying to legislate and regulate the problem away. Companies will find ways to skirt legal measures, but an evaporating user base cannot be ignored.
Anyone that's gotten through a 200 level programming course can probably throw together some kind of chat program that will let a few people talk.
That's lightyears from a scalable, non-buggy, chat system with modern features deployed at scale.
Literally every one would have been grounded had the FAA grounded the type after 2 accidents.
I try very hard to not use hyperbolic, overly-passionate political rhetoric, and maybe I'm making a mistake this time, but I can't help but say:
Your mentality is what enables fascism, despotism, genocide, and gross in-humanity.
How does having prime lock you into Amazon, at all? You're not disallowed to shop elsewhere after signing up for Prime. You don't even have to sign up for someone else's "free shipping membership program" to buy your Nest.
You're argument doesn't work for me.
